Brian St.George ran the Fargo Half Marathon in Fargo, ND coming across the finish line in the time of 1:19:21 which is a PR of 2 minutes of 29 seconds.
After some wise advice from Coach Jamie, I planned to train through this race and keep my focus on my goal marathon in June. However, some nagging injuries after last Monday’s 2 x 6 workout kept the remainder of my week at a lower than average level. As a result, I made it to the starting line feeling fresh and rested with only subtle reminders of the week’s foot and calf pain. Once the race started I felt no sign of my injuries. I still didn’t really have a goal pace in mind; only estimates of what I should be capable of. I started conservative and found myself tucked in behind the top two women at mile 2, who were running at 6:05 pace. The pace felt good, so I made a quick decision that my goal was now to stick with them. We ran as a pack of three from miles 2-6…which is always fun to soak up the louder than average crowd cheer for the lead women (“Go ladies!, Girl Power, etc. etc.”). I made it work for me a s best I could. After mile 6, their pace slowed by about 10 sec. I had a few moments where I thought of dropping back and sticking with them, but decided against it since I felt no physical reason to do so. That floating along effortlessly feeling started to fade around mile 8; however, I was able to up the effort and keep the pace steady. I expected this to happen eventually; I just wasn’t sure how well I would cope with it when it did. By mile 10 I was in reach of the only male competitor I had seen in the race since mile 3. This runner had been out ahead of me from the beginning. I caught him just after mile 11 and said “let’s finish this”…thinking we could work together for the last 2 miles. We ran together for about 1/2 mile, but somehow I found myself increasing the pace and just feeling like I could do no wrong. I finished the last mile in 5:39 and placed 17th overall. By far, the best I have ever felt in a HM. I gained a new desire to return to this distance at some point and see what I’m capable of running if this was not a tune-up race.
Dennis Hetland ran the Fargo Half Marathon in Fargo, ND finishing in the time of 1:40:36.
Tune up race. Started out with some congestion and meet up with my daughter, ran the first 4 miles with her then picked up the pace. Was fun to be able to run with her. Was able to stick close to the plan and had a fun run. Nice to get done and not be totally spent. A good confidence builder on the training. Was a perfect weather day for me with it being cool. Not a PR but only a minute or so off. Considering I wasn’t gunning for it and the training in the week leading up to it, very satisfied with the results.
Mike Sheridan ran Newbury parkrun 5K in Newbury, UK finishing this race in the time of 18:37 which is a PR of 25 seconds.
I have been trying for almost a year to go sub 19:00 for a 5k and my previous best on this gravel track was 19:12. To run 18:37 just two weeks after a marathon PB was a major surprise, but I think I got the pacing about right – 6:15 for the first mile (19th position), then 5:58 and 6:10 into a strong breeze for the last 2km+ to the finish in 5th position overall.
Kristine DeCourcey ran the Rhode Island Red 50K in Warwick, RI finishing this race distance in the time of 7:17:05 which is a distance PR.
This was a Distance PR instead of a speed PR. My original plan was to run the Gate City Marathon next Sunday, but as I have been running on the road I have been noticing that it bothers my hip a lot due to the pitch of the road and I was concerned about the 5 hour cut off time limit and the projected weather forecast of rain. I have run 2 other marathons but they were both in the rain and I didn’t want to chance the 3rd having the same rainy weather. For this reason I decided to do the Rhode Island Red 50k instead as there is no time limit and it is a multiple loop course in a park with a nice even path to run on although not completely flat! I have primarily been training on a local trail and this has been much kinder to my body. There was no rain and it was a beautiful day and course (ran along Narragansett Bay), but very humid for running so my time was slower than I was hoping. My original goal back in January was to run a sub 5 hour marathon but I am very pleased to now have a distance PR instead and surprisingly my body doesn’t feel completely beaten up thanks to the training plan set up by Runners Connect over the last few months.
Alberto Pinton ran the Mölnlyckeloppet 10K in Gothenburg / Sweden coming across the finish line in the time of 41:45.
Nice local race on the outskirts of Gothenburg. Grey weather, heavy clouds and cold winds made my split shorts/singlet outfit a little skimpy. The course ran through open fields and was quite hilly, definitely not a flat pavement race. Which made my sub40 goal all the more hard to nail. Gave it my best!
Gary Landsverk ran the Journeys Marathon in Eagle River, WI finishing in the time of 3:55:07.
Very tough hills the first half of this race made it a tough one for sure. By the time I hit the final 10K, I didn’t have the energy left I wanted to run negative splits. Even with that, it was a very fun race to do, with the beautiful scenery of northern Wisconsin in springtime. My training plan and preparation from RC truly helped me a lot. Without it, this would have been a much more difficult race to finish. A great experience, and one I would do again, but not to run a PR on!
Troy Hanson ran the Run New Prague Half Marathon in New Prague, MN finishing in the time of 1:52:17 which a PR of 3 minutes.
Perfect weather (60 F, sunny, very little wind)! First race after starting Runners Connect training.
John Gardener ran the Neyland 10k in Neyland, Wales coming across the finish line of this race in the time of 45:57 which gave him a Age Group Win.
First time I had entered this race as previously I have been away on holiday. It is the local race organised by my running Club, Pembrokeshire Harriers. It was a tune up race, but I didn’t feel fully fit and I think I am still recovering from the marathon 3 weeks ago. Route had 2 hills, one steep and one long, but not so steep. The last 5k’s were best; all downhill! I did win my age category, even though it was no where near a PB.
LeeAnn Meyer ran the Mermaid 10K in Fremont finishing this race in the time of 54:38 which is a PR of 3 minutes and 2 seconds.
Felt great the whole race. My goal was to teach myself how to slow down in the first half of a race and negative splits. It was hard not to jump out of the gates but I did a pretty good job. The last three miles were pretty fun because I got to speed it up a little and reel people in. The PR was just icing on the cake. This was the first time I felt like I went into the race with a plan and it was a huge confidence booster for my goal race next week!
Kim Rankin ran the Miles for Moffitt 8K in Tampa, Florida finishing this race in the time of 1:03:41 which is a PR of 4 minutes and 57 seconds.
Moffitt is the cancer center treating my husband and has treated several other members of my extended family and several friends. It was a big PR. But my previous time was on my first race at this distance a few years ago. I was hoping for 1 hour or under . But given the humidity, I happy with this PR.
Jonathan Bogaard ran the Lew Blond Memorial 5k in Northbrook, Il finishing this race in the time of 26:57 which is a PR of 1 minutes and 52 seconds.
Followed the plan and did well, great negative splits, finished strong on a nice chilly day. Met another RC member at the race and great to meet someone with common interests. Felt good after the race and felt like I really pushed a little harder this time. Finished 2/14 in my age category and top 20% for all males.
Richard Thomas ran the Lew Blond Memorial 5k in Northbrook, Il coming across the finish line with a time of 28:17.
The time posted is from my Garmin. Official results have not been posted yet. This was my 1st 5K of the year. This was not a particularly good race for me. I felt sluggish and winded the entire distance and lacked concentration. The weather was cold, wet and gloomy and I don’t seem to do well in those conditions. But, it’s over. On to the next race!!
Kenn Walker ran the Dirty Spokes Harbins Park Trail Half Marathon in Dacula, GA finishing in this race event in the time 1:47:05.
This was a tough hilly trail race in the humidity. I was able to finally beat several people who I’ve been trying to catch through this entire Dirty Spokes race series. I was disappointed that I didn’t go faster than my first trail half marathon earlier in the year, but I’m happy with the results and saw real improvement with all the training I’ve done over the past several months.
Ralph Caddell ran the Redbug Hill 5k Trail Race in St. Francisville, La finishing in the time of 28:12.
Actually this was a PR for this course. I have run this exact course for the last three years. Ran it 36 seconds faster this year. This was a hilly trail race with warm temperatures. Nowhere near my PR for a 5k but I don’t expect any trail race to be close to a street 5k.
Lorri Wurtzler ran her first half marathon at the Shipyard Maine coast half marathon in Biddeford, Maine in finishing this race distance in the time of 2:13:45.
This was my first half marathon. I also stayed overnite since it was a 2 hour drive and the race started at 8.
Linda McCosham ran the Continental Insulation 10k Walk/Run in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada coming across the finish line in the time of 1:00:18.
This race was not scheduled on my new training plan, which started this week. I decided to do it because my long run for this weekend was to be 10k and thought it would be good to participate in my home town race, which was celebrating their 10th year. There were distances of 1k for kids, 5k, 10k, half marathon, and marathon. My plan was to run somewhere between easy and race pace; however, when I saw that I had completed 5k, I turned it into a race. Because of that I ended up with a negative split, going 2 minutes 24 seconds faster in the second half, with a final km of 5:31. I also managed a 2nd place in my age group (60-69) by only 15 seconds. It was good fun and I’m glad I did it.
