6 Big PRs Keeps Team RunnersConnect Hot in August.

Kathy Balme ran the Midsummer Night’s Run 15K in Toronto, Ontario coming across the finish line with a time of 1:17:25 which was a PR of 4 minutes and 35 seconds.

KathyI didn’t know what to expect with this race, as this was my first race since my marathon in May, and I had been having a hard time rebounding from that one. I had been having a bit of a difficult time with the harder workouts, and wasn’t putting in the prescribed mileage for the past 3 months. Anyway, I have run this 15k race in the previous 2 years, and this year, I wasn’t sure how I would do in comparison to those previous two years. Well, the temperature was perfect, I felt good, and I PR’d by 4 minutes and 35 seconds, so I was definitely pleased with that!

Edward Sum ran the Midsummer Night’s Run 15K in Toronto, Ontario finishing this race distance in the time of 1:06:26 which was a PR of 18 minutes.

ESumIt was a tune-up race for my fall marathon in October. The last time that I did this race was in 2008, which explains the PR for this race. Coach Casey and I planned for a finishing time of 1:07:30 with an average pace of 4:30 min/k using a gradual cutdown strategy. I was happy that I was able to execute our plan and came in 1 minute before our anticipated time! Another tune-up half marathon coming up in 4 weeks and I’m hoping to continue to stay on track building for the fall marathon.

Jon Douglas ran the Madison Mini Marathon in Madison, WI finishing this race with a time of 1:40:22 which was a 18 minutes PR.

Since I registered for the race before I had a sense of my fitness level, my wave was towards the back. This was both good and bad as I started the race too conservatively. However, as I started picking up the pace I was passing other runners, which was a confidence boost for me. I earned an 18 minute PR and the good thing is I think I can continue to improve my time by other 10-20 minutes if I do a better job of pacing myself earlier in the race. This race, along with the training program & advice I’ve received from Runners Connect, has proven to be a big confidence booster for my A race, the Twin Cities Marathon.

Erica Melton ran the Edotime of 20:47 which a PR by 35 seconds.uard Michelin Memorial 5K in Greenville, SC coming across the finish line with a time of 31:26.

EricaMeltonWhile not a PR, it is my second fastest 5K and an 1 minute, 19 second improvement from my 5K tune-up on July 4th and over a 2 minute improvement since my last 5K goal race in January. The course was a very challenging out & back with a downhill start, rolling hills in the middle and an uphill finish. I’m very happy with my time given the difficulty of the course and the very warm and humid weather.

Michael Groner ran the Little Miami Half marathon in Marrow, OH finishing this race with a time of 2:06:51 which was a PR by 12 minutes.

m GRONERThis was my third half marathon. My first half was just less than one year ago and my second half marathon was marred by injury, so I was looking for a big PR in this race. For the last few weeks I was debating what my goal should be. Through comments in the forums and in the stream, Coach Sarah and Coach Jeff helped me build a race plan and target paces. Honestly, I thought the suggested pace was fast for me, but they were right and I got the big PR I was looking for. Now I’m looking forward to applying this experience to my next full marathon in October.

Jaron Brown ran the Vinings Downhill 5K in Vinings, GA coming across the finish line with a 20:47 which was a PR by 35 seconds.

JaronBThis race resulted in a new course records as well as a new 5K PR. I ran this race in 2012 in 22:19. In June of this year, I bested that time in another 5K by nearly a minute (21:22). So in this past weekend’s race, I beat both my course record (by 1:32) and my previous PR (by :35). It truly paid to know the course.  I was disciplined enough (and knowledgeable enough) to take it easy down the hills. My pacing was perfect. I was able to negative split the race perfectly (6:47,6:386:226:10 pace). All credit goes to RunnersConnect for getting me both physically and mentally prepared for conquering this race.

Eric Eidsmoe ran the Panda Bear Night Run Half marathon in Alma, MI finishing this distance with a time of 1:55:20.

Eric EIt was fun seeing bats swoop down nearby and fireflies all around us. But it was still about 70 degrees and close to 100% humidity. By mile 3 I knew it was going to be a tough night. I was already drenched in sweat. I went out too fast given the conditions even though I knew a PR was out of the question. That’s a lesson learned for my marathon (Chicago) in October.

Carol Rhoades ran the Hobble Creek Half in Utah coming across the finish line with a time of 1:58:16.

Beautiful run down a gorgeous canyon. Great weather. Felt good throughout the race but disappointing time. My training has been on track but this has been the second race this summer with poor performance.

Sergio Calvo ran the Powerade Challenge 21K in Belén, Costa Rica finishing this race distance in the time of 1:53:43 which was a PR of 2 minutes and 48 seconds.

SergioBeautiful half marathon in a semi rural landscape which marks the last milestone to my first 42 KM. I was able not only to stay within the sub 2 hrs range, but also to eat a few minutes from the one I did last month. I managed my pacing in a much better way than the last time, stayed relaxed and with a solid finish. Everything went as planned and the test of my fueling strategy was terrific.  My confidence is building up very seriously. Plus I am getting used to the luxury of a PR each time I race!

Tony Malinauskas raced the Mud Guts and Glory 5.5 mile event in Oregonia, Ohio finishing this distance with a time of 1:48:28 placing him 4th in his age group.

4th place in my division. This race features extremely steep trails in a forest course and difficult obstacles. Although this course is a “permanent” one, the organizers keep adding obstacles and length each time, so you don’t know exactly what you’ll encounter.

Rich Rein ran the Great River Ragnar Relay with 11 teammates completing this 204 mile race in 30:57:57.

RichReinAptly named “Strangers in the Night”, our race team consisted of 11 strangers from three different states coming together to run 36 legs non-stop from earlyFriday morning until Saturday afternoon, covering a distance of 204 miles. Running in the heat of the Friday mid-day sun, running county highways by headlamp in the middle of the night, and then finding the determination to push through one more leg mid-morning Saturday after a few hours of sleep on a middle school football field amongst the early morning dew – what an adventure!
