Team RunnersConnect has a smashing weekend with 8 Personal Bests leading the way

Scott Gibson ran the Fort DeSoto 5K and finished with a time of 21:40. This was a personal record by 01:14.

A good morning’s work – Master’s 1st place, 6th place overall, all on about 2.5 hours sleep. ? Many thanks to Dylan Belles, the coaching staff, and my fellow RC addicts for helping me get to this goal!

Super flat course on an island out in the middle of Tampa Bay. I’m also very proud of my wife, Chau who won the 2nd place in her age group with a 2:51 PR, as this was her first race in many years.

Chantal Hart ran the Berlin Marathon with a finishing time of 3:38:13. This was a new personal record by 8:34.

I was going for a PR in this race after not having run a marathon since 2017. The day before the race I started experiencing major shin pain in my left shin, which I had never experienced before. I was terrified race morning that after all my work, I either wouldn’t finish or would not PR. Luckily, I had zero pain on race day. While I didn’t hit my goal time of 3:35, I had a major PR and ran my fastest marathon to date. Additionally, it’s my first marathon where I had no setbacks; I never hit a wall or got cramps. I fact, I felt really strong throughout my run, and my second half splits were really fast; my last 3 miles were all sub-8 splits! I never thought I’d be able to maintain these paces during a marathon and feel good doing so. I have RC and my coaches to thank for that!!

Jill Satran ran the Dupont 72-hour Challenge race for 16 hours.

This was a learning experience rather than a PR setting experience. I set out to use the timed-race format to complete my first 100-miler. Unfortunately, my trochantera issues prevented that. But I learned a ton. First, if I can get my hip issues resolved or tamed, I could very easily have completed the 100 miles. Second, I clearly need to do WAY more strength training to rehap my hip. Finally, I realized I just don’t enjoy running alone at night. That isn’t going to change.

For runners interested in a timed race. I highly recommend the Dupont Challenge. They have 24-, 48-, and 72-hour options. It’s well supported and super friendly volunteers committed to making your run a success. The run takes place on a beautiful 2.25 mile path through a park in Dupont (about 60 miles south of Seattle.) Highly recommend!!

Thank you to all the coaches at Runners Connect for allowing me to finish the 30+ miles I was able to run. I learned a ton and had a great time while doing it.

Simon Williamson ran the Cardiff 5k Road Race and finished in a time of 0:24:26.

I was hoping to run an even pace of 4:30 mins/km to target 22:30. Caught in traffic for a slow first km, over-compensated on 2nd km, and then started going backwards. Right hamstring sore and got worse throughout, strong winds and rain didn’t help! Positives. 5th V60-65 and age grade 65.83%.

Todd Rose ran the White Rose 5 Miler and finished this race in the time of 0:35:38.

42nd annual running of a unique city race. Cannonball start…..local junior high drum team……..bag-pipe player at the top of the worst hill on the course! Great community of runners come out for our oldest local race. Started a little quicker than I wanted with a 6:56 first mile, but deceiving due to the descents and climbs on the course. Did a 6:40 last mile, so I must’ve had something left! Pleased with an overall pace of 7:07 on a challenging course! Thanks RC coaches and fellow runners for the training schedule and words of encouragement along the way!

Val Hinsperger ran the Dr Kim Armstrong Turkey Trot 5k and finished this distance in the time of 0:24:18.

Race: My favourite type so my attitude was good. A community race for the Hospital with many kids in hockey shirts leading me to a great time
Course : A mixed bag – start and finish on the main street which is always a kick, gravel trail, muddy ball park and back to the street. No hills but running in the rain was the added warrior criteria that evened it out.
Mental Attitude: I have to admit – when a kid passes me, I tend to be so happy for them, I lose focus. At 61, maybe this is a good thing…
Offficial time:24.18 Five year Age PR
Final note: A great race and thanks to RC coaches and friends who are helping me through this PF period injury.

Marietta Miller ran the Belleville Main Street Marathon and finished this race in the time of 5:05:39. This was a personal record by 3:05.

Really enjoyed it! Even though I didn’t break the 5 hour barrier, my time was good enough for a PR by 3:05 AND I just discovered that I got third in my age group! ? Thank you RC for putting together a great training program for me that allowed me to really enjoy this marathon. Looking forward to training with you over the winter and improving on my time in 2020!

Kristin Morales ran the Bell Jeff 5k and completed this distance in the time of 0:25:53.

The last mile was the fastest mile. I was able to recover a bit after some steep hills in which I did walk some.

Boh Boon Chiang Boh ran the Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered Marathon and finished in 6:20.

Maintained good form during the initial 25KM of the race and was running at consistent pace. However, once surpass 25KM mark, the temperature raised substantially to about 34 degree celsius and slowed down. Decided to adopt a walk and run strategy, walk up the hills and ran down. Still happy with the time as it was 16 minutes better than the last running the same course.

Deana Fraser ran the Devonport Half Marathon (15k) and finished with a time of 1:28:58.

Great tune up race for Auckland Half Marathon in 3 weeks. Plenty of hills 143m elevation gain. Had to park a couple of kms away which was a great warm up. No issues with Achilles and calves. Last km was my fastest km. I was happy with performance and feel more prepared for race in a few weeks.

Tensai Asfaw ran the Berlin Marathon with a finishing time of 2:27:14. This was a new personal record by 11 minutes!

An 11 minute PR. 9th AG, 130 OA. So much love and support on the course! Fabulous pack to follow. I came to Berlin with the goal of “sucking less over the final 5k” compared to NYC, and I met my objective. Still room for improvement, and some mishaps (I got 1/3 bottles I put on the course, shoes weren’t perfect, stuffiness, cramps from 28k), but I powered through the adversity, kept my head and got it done.

Michal Kovac ran the Berlin Marathon and finished this race in the time of 3:50:37. This was a personal record by 8 minutes!

This was my second Berlin marathon and for a crowded race, I did not expect much. But, during the whole race I felt easy and could have easily pushed for more. There were few choking points that slowed me down and although could not run my pace, the rain helped a lot to stay sharp. Taken together, it’s an eight minute improvement from a previous race and 12 minute improvement over last 9 months.

Javier Llerena ran the Overlook Endurance Runs 50k and finished in a time of 7:25:40.

The best 50K that I ever ran. I love the support, scenery and crossing American River Canyon was the best. I didn’t push myself too much thinking of CIM and getting back to my train. Overall I love it! #nevergiveup

Yoi Ohsako ran the Budapest Marathon and completed this race event in the time of 3:30:55.

I was disappointed with the results because I was going for 3:25:00 with the heat and I felt like I stayed with the game plan and executed on the first half brilliantly and based on how I felt, I was just going to keep that pace for 20 miles then hopefully pick it up after that. Unfortunately, for some reason, I am seriously lacking stamina and it was all downhill from mile 18 on where I was unable to go under an 8 minute pace.

Gaurav Bansal ran the Berlin Marathon and finished with a time of 5:03.

I wish I ran a little faster, but glad I could finish.

Saul Kravitz ran the Bachman Valley Half Marathon with a finishing time of 2:23:20.

Beautiful run on local roads (all paved except for a 2 mi gravel segment). Quite hilly, with some short, very steep segments. I would like a do over when temps a bit cooler. Made my customary error of starting too fast, and then melted down from the heat and hills. No PR, but my PR was from a race at 45F…so no comparison.

Robin Whitley ran the Bronx 10 Miler and completed this distance in the time of 2:15:52.

Apart from the short bit on the marathon course, I’d never run in the Bronx. Hopefully it’s a good preview for where I am going into Chicago; it’s a confidence boost for sure. My last two runs were disrupted by work and travel. I’m just grateful to be here!

Nicholas Florio ran the Berlin Marathon and finished this race event in the time of 3:45:24.

Rainy day with wind with a lot of puddles. Good fast course that was well organized. Crowds are not as large as Boston or NYC but we’re loud none the less. Trying program really worked. I did not have to stop or walk. Legs held up and had no pain that I used to get in past marathons. Kudos to Haley and the Runners Connect team.

Chad Katoff ran the Tiburon 10k, finishing this distance in the time of 0:52:48. This was a new personal record by 5:46.

Last year I wanted to finish under an hour. This year I wanted to go faster. Knocking off 5:46 in a year I’m super proud.

Rick Scharff ran the Berlin Marathon and finished in a time of 3:37:48.

This race was an amazing experience. It was very motivating at the start and had lots of bands and drums along the course to help it go by faster. The spectators were amazing as well. With 45,000 runners and lots of obstacles to deal with it was hard to navigate at times. It was not close to a PR for me but I was happy with the time after coming back from an injury earlier this year.

Jason Sethi ran the Colorado Springs Marathon and finished this race in the time of 5:05:00.

Did way better than the last two marathon races.

Elita Ozolina ran the Berlin Marathon and completed this race event in the time of 4:18:01.

This was my 5th marathon.

Cory Hanson ran the Nebraska Half Marathon and completed this distance in the time of 1:34:10.

This was the first time that I had the opportunity to officially help pace a race. I was a little nervous as I wanted to be able to deliver the intended result for the organizers and any runners that may have been going with me. I really, really enjoyed getting to cheer people on and help get them to the finish in some very unkind conditions. I went back out with one of my running buddies (who was pacing the 1:40 group) and we ran another 3.5 miles bringing people on the course back towards the finish line. I’m looking forward to having more opportunities to pace in the future.

Ben Raid ran the Berlin Marathon and finished this race event in the time of 3:00:27.

Didn’t quite get it done in this race. Maybe drifted a little mentally but couldn’t wake the legs after 34kms and faded from a possible 2:55 out to a 3hr flat time…I will learn a lot from this race.

Troy Tabor ran the Berlin Marathon and finished with a time of 4:05:04.

Rainy and cool day. My goal was to get a qualifying time for Chicago marathon 2020, I made it by 3 seconds. I had my Stryd pod on and it showed me with an 8:45 pace thru the half. I started getting stitch in my stomach about 15 miles. That went away and about 20 I got a cramp in my quad. I calculated prior to the race that at a 9:00 minute pace that I would have about a 5 minute buffer. I slowed to about a 9:15-9:30 pace the last couple because I could feel the quad trying to cramp again. My time was a BQ, but I know it won’t make the cut off. At the finish, my watch said I ran 27.16 miles.

Kumar Rao ran the Berlin Marathon with a finishing time of 4:05:22.

Happy to have finished the 6th Abbot Major Marathon at Berlin and to earn the 6-Start Finisher medal. Approached the race with the goal of enjoying it and ensuring that there would be no setback to the recovery from the knee injury in mid July. So was happy to have finished the race, running continuously with no knee issues.

My rough plan was to run the first 32 km at the pace of 5:40 and the last 10 km as fast as I could based on how the legs were behaving. The first 20 km went as per this plan, but around km 22 there was some left IT band/peroneus pain and a feeling of weakness in the left leg. So slowed down a little after that and finished the race with no issues. I must thank the coaches, particularly coach @Dylan Belles and @Claire Bartholic for their advise on recovering from the knee issues, and to the friends on the RC community who have been cheering me along, for having finished this race reasonably well.

As I had pinned a bib that showed I was running my 6th World Major at the back of my shirt, several runners coming from behind would cheer me and run with me for some distance while talking about their own world major races. So the entire race was at an easy conversational pace. I did try to maintain the effort level after 32 km by picking off runners in front of me and not focusing on pace. After about 35 km, with the end not too far away, I was overtaken with a sense of euphoria at the impending finish of the 6th major and was almost laughing while running.

After the finish, felt fresh and better than most past marathons. Picked up the Finisher medal and the Six Star medal. The finish time was 4:05:22, both a BQ and a time qualifier for New York for me. This was the 5th best finish I have had in my 11 marathons. Age group standing was 24 out of 175.

In the evening, went to the post marathon party, sporting my six star medal. Four of us six star finishers were taken to the VIP part of the party with the elites. We were felicitated on the stage along with two Guinness winners and the millionth runner, just before they felicitated the two top finishers from the elite divisions.

Vivek Chaudhri ran the Berlin Marathon and finished in a time of 4:31:13, which was a PR!

Painfully ? excited to have run my very first full marathon – achieved a PR for the longest distance I have run and a default marathon PR by finishing ?. Thank you to all the RC runners and Coaches for your wonderful support and encouragement ?.

Pre run: Woke up at 6:30 and started the morning with a banana and 3 scoops of UCAN with a liter of water. Did some foam rolling before heading out towards the start line. Wore the RC shirt plus arm sleeves, compression calf sleeves and a knee sleeve for the problematic left knee. With me were fellow RC runner Deepak and another friend Karan.

Run: We were all in the last wave – H. We were together for the 1st km and then Deepak took off. Karan and I kept together – stopping at the water stations in km 5 and few more until I pulled ahead at km 28.

I managed to maintain a reasonable pace until km 34 when I stopped to drink maurten and my left knee started to hurt as I attempted to run. For the next 3k there it was a battle between managing the knee pain and running. And then at km 37 the left calf cramped. The last 3k was mostly speed walking with short stretches of shuffling. So happy that I finished ?. We had light rain starting an hour after we began which was great and kept us cool.

Very happy that I finished and in a reasonable time. Gave me a new perspective and a lot of respect for all marathoners.

Bill Calvin ran the Akron Half Marathon and completed this distance in the time of 1:50:08.

Akron is my hometown. It is fun to run through the streets I knew as a kid. I am disappointed that my time was not a PR as I believe I am the strongest, fastest and lightest I have been in several years. I noticed that most of the participants, including myself, were affected by the heat and humidity. Akron is almost always in the 50’s F at this time of the year and running in 15 degrees warmer weather and having high humidity affected us. I am looking forward to seeing what my fitness level will do at the Indy Marathon in early November.

Rhonda Devan ran the Berlin Marathon and finished this race in the time of 3:43. This was a new personal record by one minute!

Maggie Lentz ran the Berlin Marathon and finished this race event in the time of 3:28:14.

It was Berlin. I BQ with 12 minutes to spare. I ran very smart. I loved it. It was humid and very wet.

Ian Spencer ran the Windsor Half Marathon with a finishing time of 1:43:31.

My time of 1:43:31 (average pace 4:53) was a bit disappointing compared with my best this year of 1:39:08 (average pace 4:41) at the Maidenhead half on September 1st. This was a hard race on a hilly course so it was perhaps no surprise that it was slower than Maidenhead which was a flat course. I found the race quite difficult from the start and at four miles could quite cheerfully have dropped out but resisted the temptation and started to run more comfortably. I still managed to win the M70 category by 9:36 minutes! Clearly it pays to persevere and not give up.

Betsalel Cohen ran the My Own – Run for Fun 5k and finished with a time of 0:26:23.

Moderate plus pace. Legs okay
