Mike Bromberek ran the Lifetime Chicago Half Marathon and finished with a time of 1:41:05.
The first two miles were not bad but was often going a little slower than 7m25s per mile that I was planning and was feeling a little harder than I was expecting. So tried to stay around that after the 2nd mile and was hoping to speed up to be around 7m20s or a little faster after the turn around. I was not able to speed up much then either. Right about when I finished the 9th mile I could just feel that I had run out of energy. The last 3 or 4 miles felt real tough and was slowing down a lot.
I kinda lost track of how much of the race was left when I realized there was about 0.1 left and in my head I kinda thought I still had like a mile left. I was able to speed up and push during that last bit to the finish line so that was good.
I feel that I did well with grabbing cups and drinking from them the whole race. Mostly drank Gatorade Endurance at the stops but got water a couple times later in the race. Used Maurten gel (w/caffeine) 5 minutes before race, at 30 minutes (no caffeine), and at 61 minutes (w/caffeine). Used a salt tablet at about 47 minutes while also drinking water or gatorade. Using those all felt good.
Mile 10 start was about 1 hour 7 minutes into run, so was not long after using a gel but does not seem like that was able to give me much of a boost of energy.
Walked through the last two water stops, first was partially cause of congestion but also being tired, second was just due to fatigue. But got back to running without much issue after finishing drinking.
Joe Allen ran the Pumpkin Fest 5K and finished this race in the time of 28:39.
This is a large regional race with most of the top runners in our area. It’s a flat course with only one hill and we had perfect weather conditions. Ran a negative split and came in 3rd in my age group. After you hit 70, you’re trying just as hard as before but there just isn’t as much in the tank. Still it’s good to be racing and I ran down the guys that I’d targeted.
Travis Dowell ran the Andale! 5K and completed this distance in the time of 31:55.
This was the third year in a row I was first in my AG at this race. The Race Director saw me and called me by my first name. I guess he remembered me from past races.
This course had about 191 feet of elevation gain, which was not much, but enough to slow me down on mile 2. The first mile and a bit into mile 2 was downhill, then uphill to finish off mile 2 and start mile 3, with a long downhill, then uphill for the last third or so of mile 3 and the last 0.1 mile. There was a gray headed runner pacing me at the end. He was ahead of me and then as we were nearing the end of mile 3, I sprinted past him and finished before him. I found out he was in the 65-69 age group, and he got second place in that group. I got first place in my age group.
Silvia Gris ran the Berlin Marathon and finished this race event in the time of 6:14:00.
It didn’t go well. I was sick, with flu, feeling tired for this and poor rest. I decided to “run” in a slow pace watching my heart rate and keeping myself hydrated as much as possible. I had to stop jogging and walked from km 16 to 18, and then started jogging again until km 37… I walked until km 41.5 and then finished jogging again. It was crazy, too much time on the road, the weather too hot, but I did it. My dream was sharing this with my family, so I couldn’t missed it.
Kyle Bowman ran the 2mi Test and finished this distance in the time of 12:00.
This was a 2mi TT for my PT test in the Army. Happy with how it went considering you have other physical activities to do before you run the 2mi. It was hot! But flat.
