1 Personal Best highlights the fantastic weekend of races for Team RunnersConnect

Abigail Wegert ran the GOAT Run 50k and finished this distance in the time of 5:50:00, which was a PR!

4,000 ft of elevation gain. Great for my first 50k. Felt pretty hard starting around mile 18, when my runner’s knee started to creep up a little bit. It was super hard, but I loved it!

Corrinne Mills ran the Hub City Half Marathon and finished with a time of 2:04:33.

I’m really, really happy with how this went. Managed to exactly execute my plan and ran my second-fastest ever half-marathon, beating out a 2019 effort by a few seconds. Official chip time was 2:04:33, 4 out of 13 F45-49. (Top 3 were 1:57, 2:01, and 2:02, not wildly out of reach.) Pretty good weather conditions and lots of shade on the course, though a bit warm by the end. My sleep last night was absolute trash, got home late from a social thing that ran long and had to wake up early to drive, so I got about 4 hours of sleep during which I woke up every hour for no apparent reason. Nutrition: Took a Maurten 160 and a SaltStick right before the start of the race, then a NeverSecond at 45 min., another SaltStick at 1h15, and Maurten 100 at 1h30, for a small-scale test of the marathon plan. Nutrition at the start line I think helped a lot, especially with the extra time between breakfast and the start of the race, which will also be true at the marathon.

Travis Dowell ran a 5k race and completed this distance in the time of 33:40.

This was a tough course in a park with a huge overpass to go over and back every 1.5+ mile lap in 86 degree heat. I entered the 10K and quickly decided I was doing the 5K, which the race director said before the race start would be fine considering the heat. The official results do not show my time, but by my calculations, I would be 1st place in Male Overall Masters and 11th out of 34 runners. Elevation gain was 70 feet per mile average because of that huge overpass.
