Joe Allen ran the Barkcamp Races 10k, finishing this distance in the time of 1:04:29.
This is a road race in our local state park. It’s all up and down hill, with 4 very steep varying from 1 mile to 1/2 mile. It was a perfect day for running and I felt good the entire race. Set a goal for catching 4 runners ahead of me and passed the last one about 1/2 mile to the finish. Much to my surprise, I was the 4th place male. No award for that, but as the oldest in the race, it sure felt good.
Jani Muhli ran the Vantaa Marathon (FI) and finished with a time of 4:09:00. This was a personal record by 4 minutes!
New PR of 4:09! Goal was under 4:10. Went according to plan, first 5k slower and after that aimed for 5:50 pace. I had rough training cycle with injuries so did not know what to expect. But I just kept going and even managed to push faster at the last 2k. Was so happy at goal that I burst into tears.
Jason S ran the Twin Cities Marathon and finished this race in the time of 3:53:36.
The good: eight years after my hip surgeon told me I might be able to get back to running 5 miles, I finished a marathon! I did not hit the wall, and generally feel that I ran smart race. It was unseasonably warm with 20-40 mph winds; I knew it wasn’t PR conditions, so my plan was to (1) run the first 20 miles at a conservative ~8:00/mi pace (2) drop the hammer over the last 10K and (3) finish with a smile on my face. I accomplished goals (1) and (3).
The bad: just before mile 21, I suddenly felt a sharp pain in my left foot; I couldn’t put weight on the outside of that foot without severe pain. I kept (mostly) running somehow by adjusting my gait, but my pace slowed to ~10:00/mi. At mile 25, cramps set in (probably from the humidity; I lose a lot of salt), so mile 26 was very slow (~13:00), but I finished the last 0.5 mile running.
Even though my time is disappointing – by far my slowest marathon – I’m happy that I finished the training cycle and the race.
Bruce Bergeson ran the Saint George Marathon with a finishing time of 4:04:44.
My daughter ran this marathon for the first and this was my tenth time running this marathon!
