Team RunnersConnect celebrates the marathon season with a bang as athletes brings in 10 PRs over the weekend

Marjy Friedrichs ran the Grove Trotter 10K and finished this distance in the time of 44:28, which was a PR by 30 seconds!

Woohoo! So excited about another PR. I’ve been experimenting with eating more before the race, including UCAN and Clif Bloks (2 with caffeine) In addition to my regular granola bar, and that seems to really help! I know we’re not supposed to need that extra fuel for such short races, but I’ve battled with our REDS for so long, I think it really helps me.

Chang Sun ran the Fall Tuneup 10k and finished with a time of 41:44, which was a PR!

This is a local race. It is nice to run while supporting the community. I made a mistake setting the alarm for the weekday instead of weekend. When I woke up, there was only 40 minutes left before the race started. No breakfast. No proper warm up. I ate a GU gel and rode my bike rushing to the start.

The course is somewhat challenging with 528 feet elevation. I am not sure whether the overall distance is correct or not as my GPS watch only registered 6.14 miles. The weather was nice. I think my pacing is alright. Maybe I could dig in more towards the end. I am happy to take the 9th place overall and 2nd place in my age group.

Jeff Parsons ran the Chicago Marathon and finished this race in the time of 3:23:29. This was a personal record by 4:18.

I had a great time running in Chicago. The race itself was going great until about 35K when I got a cramp in my right hamstring. Luckily, it happened directly beside a bio-freeze table, so a couple of pumps of that, and I could keep going. Unfortunately, I just couldn’t get back to my desired pace after that. I was short of meeting my A goal, but I nailed my B goal and set a PR.

Corrinne Mills ran the Chicago Marathon with a finishing time of 4:40:43. This was a new personal record by 1 minute!

First marathon since a really tough NYC in 2022. Going strong into 20 miles but starting to really flag after that. I don’t think it was fueling or cardio fitness, and I thought my training had gone well, but my legs started hurting around mile 17-18 and things went downhill after mile 20, as they do. I managed to keep jogging and not walk too much, so I saved the PR but it was a tough finish. GPS was all over the place, and I started at the back of a huge pack of charity runners going various random speeds so it was tough to regulate my pace.

Josh Counselman ran the Chicago Marathon and finished in a time of 3:18:23. This was a massive personal record by 23:19.

Big shout out to Coach Ruairi for a solid training plan, race day plan, check-ins leading up to race day. The race plan and check-ins helped me get out of my head and drill down on what to focus on on race day.

As a result, I beat my former marathon PR from 2019 by 23 minutes.

Negatives on Race Day: I dropped two of my caffeinated gels before mile 2, which forced me to reconfigure my fueling plan and shift around caffeinated and regular gels as well as use two course gels. My right headphone disconnected at mile 7 and my left one disconnected at mile 12, so I really had to tap into the mental recommendations from Coach Ruairi earlier than anticipated.

The focus for the start was to not go out too fast for the first three miles. Using the manual lap function throughout the race was incredibly helpful for keeping paces near the targeted times. Miles 4-13 were still controlled and everything was clicking still and feeling good. Miles 14-23 allowed for picking up the pace a little but not fully opening up the legs yet. Around miles 15/16, some leg fatigue started to set in, but nothing like previous marathons were the legs fully started to go. Miles 24-26, I tried to increase the pace each mile. Once up the final hill, the focus was to push as fast as possible for the final 200m.

Overall, it was a successful Chicago marathon and a step toward the main goal of a sub-3 hour marathon.

Dennis Detweiler ran the Chicago Marathon and completed this race event in the time of 3:48:36. This was a new personal record by 17 minutes!

I ran by feel and mile markers for the first 5 miles. It was crowded and slow to begin. Weather went from cloudy, to sunny, back to cloudy and windy at some points. I felt like I had the proper nutrition and training for the race. 2nd marathon completed with about 17 minute PR.

Chicago was great. Spectators were incredible and all of the hard work and great training cycle paid off. Thanks for the program and support.

Joe Sonnek ran the Twin Cities Marathon (10 mile) and finished with a time of 1:16:30.

Although it was not the run I signed up for it went better than I expected. Over the past month, life has been buzzier than I would have liked. I have not been able to get my long runs in and I felt that I was not prepared to run a full marathon so I ran the 10 mile instead. It was a smart decision because I had some right calf pain by the end of the race. Hopefully life can calm back down and I get get some meaningful training in for the next marathon.

Carlos Villanueva ran the Chicago Marathon with a finishing time of 3:40:16, which was a PR!

Run the first marathon of my son and with my wife. I ran Chicago twice being prepared by myself… being coached specifically by RC is the difference… thanks RC!

Silvia Gris ran the Chicago Marathon and finished this race in the time of 4:45:35.

I ran it with my family , I felt strong and enjoyed it a lot!

Jose Lucero ran the Chicago Marathon and finished in a time of 3:46:49. This was a PR by 14 minutes!

It was a great day for running, not that cold and the sun wasn’t as strong. I had my doubts about it this as I was dealing with shin splints on my right leg for about three weeks. It wasn’t 100%, but quite close as the pain allowed me to run without major discomfort. I felt fast and strong, all the training for wally payed off. My fueling and hydration strategy also worked really well and I can confirm that for the very first time, I didn’t hit the dreaded wall. I kept increasing my pace along the way, getting a negative split, spring the last km. It was really helpful to join the 3:45 pace team with 10km to go to keep me pushing. In conclusion, I had a great time, felt awesome and earned that medal.

Todd West ran the Chicago Marathon and finished this race event in the time of 3:23:26. This was a personal record by 5 minutes!

Negative split

Gillian Ross ran the Chicago Marathon and finished with a time of 3:39:55. This was a PR by 90 seconds!

After doing Chicago last year and running the whole thing in pain from planter fasciitis, I didn’t have quite the experience I had hoped for and when I learned my best friend and another good fried were also going to run it, then I knew I had to go again for redemption. I have been trying to get under 3:40 for a couple of year and had to marathons 6 months apart with the exact same time of 3:41:26 (crazy, I know) but the second time was Chicago 2023 and with an injury and at an aerobic level that felt easier then 6 months prior but my foot just wasn’t allowing me to give it more. I knew gps would be a problem again so had used pace pro to keep tracks of splits and knew I was about 30 sec slower then goal pace when I reached mile 1 but with all the people and trying not to weave around too much and also being afraid of going too fast too soon I still came out of the first 5k 20 seconds per mile slower then I wanted. My mind went to worry about trying to make up this time so I sped up and didn’t realize how much until I hit the 10k and looked at the race tracker and saw how much I had increased my pace..basically second 5k was about 7 seconds faster then goal so I slowed down and held steady but was more fatigued from that effort. I finally settled back into a good pace but my stomach started feeling nauseous and harder to take the gels once I got to 2:30 min and it took me almost 20 minutes to get one gel down which threw off my fueling. Once I got to mile 22 I had slowed down and found it harder to get the legs to pick up. I still did everything I could to get my legs to turnover as fast as I could to stay under 3:40. Although, it was not the pr I had planned, it was a PR nonetheless and I am so happy to have finished with my body physically healthy and no injuries!
