David Young ran the Pumpkin Pie 5K and finished with a time of 22:13, which was a PR by 17 seconds!
Used this Turkey Day race as a tuneup for the Christmas 5K goal race. Been struggling through this training cycle nursing a hip flexor strain so I’ve been curtailing the speed workouts and cutting back on the mileage somewhat to try and strike the happy medium between continuing to train and outright taking time off.
Going into this race I knew I wasn’t any where near as sharp as I should have been for a 5K but decided to give it my best shot anyway. Ended up with a 17 second PR which is better than I thought I’d do but still off the pace of the higher goal I had set for myself. A PR is a PR so I’ll take it!
April Palmer ran the Turkey day 8K and finished this distance in the time of 42:16, which was a PR!
I was pleased to finish in the top 10 in my age group.
Seamus Fearon ran the Hannover Re Bermuda Half Marathon and finished with a time of 1.25.
I won it and it was my first race back in 18 months after starting with Coach Sarah 5 weeks ago.
Jonathan Bogaard ran the Northshore Turkey Trot 10K and finished this distance in the time of 50:31, which was a PR by 3:51.
Repeat of a race from last year and I got a PR by almost 4 minutes. Tech problems with watch at the beginning threw me off a little but I settled in and just tried to race to my plan. I was able to make a negative split 25:22 for first 5k and 25:09 for second 5k so that was good. Ended with an uphill and felt like I pushed that pretty well. Overall a fun race and then went on to play Turkey Bowl touch football with friends.
Tracy Hixon ran the Berbee Derby 10k, finishing this distance in the time of 00:49:33.
A fun Turkey Trot type event on Thanksgiving day. I used this race as a supported fast training run, with a 2 mile warm up.. jump in the start corrals, then run somewhat hilly 10K, then 1 mile cool down. I tried to keep pace even, but the couple of longish inclines in the last 2 miles made that a challenge. When I got to the last .2 of race I tried to run my fastest pace. I was pleasantly surprised that I had a large cushion on my goal of sub 50 minutes. It was even good enough to win my age division by 1 second.. guess that surge at the end is what it took!
Dean Morley ran the San Sebastián marathon and finished in a time of 2:58:13.
Really pleased to have dipped under 3hrs after a tough summer out with an Achilles injury. At one point didn’t think would make the race, then as started to improve thought I might at least be able to jog round, then as improved a bit more thought would at least get Good for Age qualifying time (sub 3.15). All in all pleased with the outcome and the RC training plan no doubt came to the rescue!
Laurie Householder ran the The Pickle Run 5k and completed this distance in the time of 23:08.
Well, I should have studied the course map a little more closely as I was hoping for a flat, fast, sub-21 minute 5k. However, this course, while termed a 5k, is acknowledged to be 3.2 miles with the last 2 miles of it on the soft, sandy beach of Tybee Island! With sinking feet and strong coastal headwinds, I threw time out the window and just tried to maintain my 1st female position. Ran the first road mile at 6:39 and felt great about my prospects of keeping that pace had it been a full road race. However, after crossing the dock onto the beach, I realized my time would slow significantly, yet I was able to pass several men and keep my female lead. Finished 1st female overall (and 8th overall out of men/ women from a field of 138) and got a free jar of pickles and a pickle Christmas ornament! Ha! A fun event.
Madeleine Said ran the OC Rescue Mission Turkey Trot 5K with a finishing time of 28:22. This was a personal record by 2:08.
A very fun race on a beautiful sunny Thanksgiving day. I PRed and ran a negative split and came in 3rd in my age group!
Shailja Nair ran the Seattle Marathon and finished with a time of 5:21.
This was my very first marathon. Had nothing to compare it to. My A goal was a finish time of 4:40 and B goal was anything under 5 hours. Despite the winds at the beginning things were going alright even though it was a bit off my race plan. By about halfway point I realized I wouldn’t make 4:40 but under 5 still seemed within reach. But post mile 20 my legs felt dead. Last 6 miles took way too long for a finish time of 5:21.
Justin Campbell ran the Boston Volvo 5K and finished this race event in the time of 18:36.
First real race in a year after a calf injury. Felt very easy. Too easy. Had way too much left at the end. My gps was wildly off. I thought I was running a minute slower than I was and got disheartened and kind of gave up. I’ll throw away the watch and push harder on the next one!
Rajeev Jorapur ran the Aurangabad Heritage Run Half Marathon and finished with a time of 2:38:14, which was a PR!
This was my first 21K run, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I started running two months ago, and ran my first 10K run on October 16 in 1:13:45. I then ran my second 10K on November 6 in 1:06. At this point, I enrolled in the 14-day trial membership and set myself a target of running my first 21K on November 27 in 2:30. I followed the training plan given to me very diligently. Since the route was in the hills with two tough uphills and two downhills, I read on the technique of running in the hills on your website and practiced them. On the race day, I was absolutely relaxed. I found the going very easy and comfortable. Even the uphills were comfortably crested, and I found the experience very enjoyable. At the end of the race, I was very comfortable, and I felt I could have continued even longer.
At the beginning of the training, I had symptoms of runner’s knees – my left and right knee would pain after 4-5 km. I followed your recommend knee strengthening exercises, and on the day of the race, I had absolutely no pain for the first 19 km. Towards the end, there was 2 km downhill, where I felt slight discomfort on my right knee. However, I was very comfortable and completed the race without any problem. I also recovered very fast, and the next day, continued my normal activity without any fatigue.
Many thanks for your excellent guidance and training
Al Williams ran the Brighton “Movember” 10k, finishing this distance in the time of 51:55.
This was a fundraising 10k for “Movember” held in Brighton, U.K. It was a trail run with a 5k loop through the forest which was run twice. There was a big hill in the first kilometer that had to be repeated in the second loop and it was really difficult second time around.
My chip time was 51:55 which is basically equal to my 10k PR however my GPS watch suggested that we didn’t run a full 10k. Balancing the shorter course with the difficulty of the trail we were running overall I’m pretty happy with the time.
Katie Kurz ran the Firenze Marathon and finished in a time of 3:58:36.
Three is a charm this year! After misses at the Stockholm and Ascona-Locarno marathons earlier this year, I did it. Sub-four hours again!
It was a perfect day in Florence. Great course and fantastic energy. I had a personal pacer for the entire race (a dear friend of mine who is a 2:48 PB marathon runner, having run 55 to date). Jan managed the pace, cadence, got me water and sponges. What a privilege to have his support!
It was actually my first “non-stop running” marathon ever. No stops needed. We had a good strategy on the course – first 15 km (5:40 pace), next 10 km (5:30 pace) and then four 5 km pieces (which we played by ear) to nearly the finish. My nutrition was good. My pacer encouraged me to consume more carbs than I typically do in the 24-48 hours in the forms of simple sugars. I kept my usual approach but I drink a 330 ml orange-flavored carb beverage in the ten minutes before the start. It worked!
I was off my personal best by 16 seconds from the Philadelphia Marathon 15 years ago (3:58:20). Anyway, there is always next time…
Slawomir Wojcik ran the Run Turkey Run 5k and finished this race in the time of 18:01, which was a PR by 40 seconds!
Elise Reitshamer ran the Earn Your Turkey 5K and completed this distance in the time of 24:22.
It was a great morning for a run. Although the temps were chilly, there was no rain and even more importantly, there was no wind! The course is a flat 5K around a lake, which is great for really testing yourself and seeing how fast you can really go. No twisting routes or tricky hills here!
I was able to pace myself well and negative split (yay!) and while it was not a PR, it was 22 seconds faster than the last 5K I ran and was my second fastest 5K (the fastest was this race last year by 26 seconds). Great way to start Thanksgiving off!
David Hammar ran the Ocala 10K Turkey Trot and finished this race event in the time of 28:25.
Missed a PR by a few seconds but no big deal, I was extremely happy just to run this since two days prior I wasn’t sure if I would be able to go at all due to a knee injury experienced during a previous long run. Two days rest resulted in an enjoyable event! 1st in my age group and pain free at the end so no complaints at all! Beautiful morning on Thanksgiving Day and I unexpectedly picked up a new friend to pace with which helped us both get through the difficult parts of this race.
Jay McCombs ran the Windgate Ranch Turkey Trott 10k and finished in a time of 39:42.1, which was a PR!
First race in 15 years. Ended up placing first. A PR and crossed off long term goal of breaking 40 in my first race out. When I started I thought running a 10k around 45 would be all I could hope for. Really want to thank everyone that kept me on track. Sarah Crouch helped me stay sane through an injury. Danny Fisher always had usable, no nonsense advice–particularly running slow. Bonnie Galvin’s positive posts kept me positive. Claire Bartholic encouraged me to be ambitious with my pacing. Her confidence in me helped quiet those voices in my head suggesting “you can’t do that!” Alex Viderman is the only person I’ve ever talked to face to face that understands my obsession and also helped me find the confidence to get out and break people off. Here is the race play by play from my log.
Slightly short course but brutal with 158 feet of elevation gain and an uphill finish. It was really a 2 man race. I made an aggressive 200 to identify the competition. After that ran on this guy’s hip for about 2 miles and the pace was more aggressive than what I wanted to run, but the course was on a downhill so I decided to hang tight as I wasn’t off my “average” goal pace. Then started the first of two major hill climbs. Dude dropped the pace by about 20 sec per mile so I recovered for about 400 m then started making small surges to up the pace back to my goal pace. There was about 200 m downhill followed by the steepest climb of the course that lasted for about 800 m. I dropped the hammer hard and the race was over. Ended up winning by about 2.5 minutes.
Tony Malinauskas ran the Sam Lapidus Thanksgiving Run 10k and finished with a time of 50:08. This was a new personal record by 1:15.
I won my age group! I’m using this race to check my 10K improvement year to year. I was aiming to break 50 minutes this year; I’ll have to try again next year.
Dawn White ran the Myrtle Beach Turkey Trot 8k and finished this distance in the time of 38:07.
Patrick Callahan ran the So Others Might Eat 5K and completed this race in the time of 25:54. This was a personal record by 1:46.
SOME (So Others Might Eat)/5K charity run and my 11th race this year. My company, General Dynamics, was the presenting sponsor and I got to meet the CEO before the race. October 15th I ran 27:40 after running 29:44 in April. PR’d this one by 1:46 however we did not run the USATF certified course DC14005RT advertised for the race. Was it short? I don’t know. Garmin had me at 3.12 miles but it also had me running through the lobby of the Air and Space Museum. Thanks to Coach Danny for getting me ready for this one.
Stephanie Jones ran the Seattle Half Marathon and finished with a time of 2 hours 30 minutes.
I have been struggling with a foot injury, so I decided to run the race with my 72-year-old father rather than trying to get any specific finishing time. Wonderful experience.
Susan Spencer ran the Whitin 5 Mile Road Race and finished in a time of 38:11. This was a PR by 1:03 minutes!
This Thanksgiving morning race is a classic, complete with random merchandise awards and the same style long sleeved t-shirt they’ve had for nearly 30 years. A fun time to reconnect with old friends and family. Plus it starts a third of a mile from my house so I don’t have to drive. This year I enjoyed passing some of the women who usually dominate the 50-59 age group. Age group PR for me!
Brandon Tuss ran the Charlotte South Park Turkey Trot 8k and finished in 37:03, which was a PR by 00:34.
This was the second year in a row I braved the masses and took part in the Charlotte South Park Turkey Trot! I went in with low expectations, really just wanted to enjoy the run, but when I worked my way through the heavy crowds in the first mile I had time on my side. From there I settled in and just ran to get stronger with each passing mile. Very happy with the result and managed to shave thirty-four seconds off of last years time. Made the Thanksgiving turkey taste all the sweeter!
Andy McComb ran the Hannover Re 1/2 Marathon and finished this race in the time of 2:00:27.
Felt good to be pushing myself to a longer distance after the beer, wine and pizza program I’ve been on post NYC marathon 3 weeks ago. For a non competitive runner it was a thrill to lead the race for 10+ miles as I took the option of an early start group (30 minutes ahead of the real runners). Those watching were somewhat perplexed by the plodder leading the way. The fantasy was crushed in the last 2-3 miles!!!
Peg DeBiasi ran the Space Coast Half Marathon with a finishing time of 2:32:53.
My third year in a row running the Space Coast Half marathon, which requires a 3:30am wakeup for 6am start. Temperatures were in the mid-60s, humidity in the mid-80% range and there was about a 10 mph breeze. Coach Danny, who is more impressed with my legs than I am, gave me a target of 10:40-10:50 to start for 6 miles then see how things go. So a 2:20-2:25 expected finish. The first mile was a mob scene, I managed to eke out an 11 min mile without tripping over the walkers that began their walk intervals at 30 seconds 4 abreast, and I settled into the prescribed pace around 10:50.
I was feeling pretty good until mile 8 when my digestive system decided it was morning. I walked/ran until the next set of portalets, which sadly was two miles away just at the end of mile 10/start of 11. According to my watch I lost 4+ min of moving time + the lost run/walk time. I could not then quite get the legs to turn over fast for the last two miles but all in all I am pretty content with this time, it is the fastest I have run a half in 3 yrs. My last 2:30ish half was this same race 3 yrs ago; most of the ones for the last two years have been closer to 2:45-2:50 or slower! I refuse to be at all bothered by the fact that the fastest marathoner set a course record that was 4 minutes faster than I ran half the distance. I’m likely old enough to be his grandma.
Stavros Ioannou ran a local charitable Half Marathon and finished with a time of 2 hours and 11 minutes, which was a PR!
The first time I have run this distance hence it is a PR!! I was feeling comfortable and no real nerves the night before. Main reason for that it was because I felt really well prepared. RC prepared me perfectly so I am now looking forward to the next one.
Justin Brochocki ran the Maraton Valencia Marathon with a finishing time of 3:01. This was a new personal record by 11 minutes!
I was so pleased with this run, its by far the best run of any distance I have completed. The training I put in was tough, but it paid off in a massive way. I was able to stay strong the whole way through, I didn’t hit any walls and was able to finish strong. This was the first time in 4 marathons that I didn’t hit the wall.
I had been aiming to try and duck under 3hrs, but the start was a little slow due to the number of people and maybe I could have pushed a little harder from km21. However, what I’ve learnt in the last 12 months is to not panic and not try to race faster to catch up, but to just adapt and try and enjoy the experience. Once I re-adjusted myself to a 3 hour time, I was so much more relaxed.
Valencia is a marathon I would highly recommend. Its got great weather, a really nice and flat course and the hospitality and the crowds are the best I’ve ever seen.
The coaching from our coaches on Runners Connect in my past 6 months has been fantastic. I’ve learnt so much and love being in this community. Keep up the great work. My one tip that I will be using again is pace bands…I made my own and put some splits down that allowed me to keep check of where I was. It also gave me something else to focus on when the going got tough 🙂
Kari Ingebritsen ran the Turkey Trot 5k, finishing this distance in the time of 53:31. This was a personal record by 4:02.
Big PR on Thanksgiving for me! 4 full minutes and 2 seconds! The race went pretty much as planned, other than mile 5 which included a very long uphill section, so I was running by effort on that hill and was pleased with the pace given that. It was cold, but my clothes choice worked great. I ran with my husband and it was super fun. Thanks coaches for all the help and support – it really paid off.
