Jeff Wickett ran the Leprechaun Chase 10K and finished with a time of 44:08.
This is the only race where I can legally chase women married or single, since they get 5 min head start. Now on a serious note, I have been able to podium most times I have raced this one. This was my first race after a hamstring strain in Feb so I wanted to do well. I could feel that I had not done a lot of speed work since 11Feb. This is one of 2 races that I love to run, the other is BIX7 the last weekend in July.
Jesse Snyder ran the Hot Chocolate 15k and finished this distance in the time of 1:03:22, which was a PR by 1:34.
Nice PR despite a pretty bad cramp below the diaphragm early on. Also very happy to have finished without any significant aches or pains, which I attribute to plenty of quality long runs over the past months, and very consistent ancillary strength conditioning. Many thanks to my coach Jay Johnson!
Shailja Nair ran the Lake Sammamish Half Marathon with a finishing time of 2:05:35. This was a personal record by 15 minutes!
Everything came together for me with this tune up half. The weather was perfect. 40’s, sunny and hardly any wind. The course was flat as a pancake. Plus I had 3 months of solid training under my belt. Went in with 0 injuries and feeling strong. I found the 2:00 hr pacer and decided to stick with him. And I think I did a fine job till about 8 or 9 miles. I stopped for water and to eat clif blocks…the pace group didnt. So lost them around there. But I had plenty of energy and was feeling good at that time. So just kept going and trying to maintain effort and pace. I do wish I had kept with the pace group to get me closer to the 2 hour finish…but I am very happy with the result. Like they say trust in the training.
Kevin Hurrell ran the Point Bock Run 5 Mile, finishing this distance in the time of 33:27.
This is always one of my favorite races of the year. It is a challenging course to say the least, miles two and three are a steady climb and it didn’t help with a steady 20mph wind the last two miles. This wasn’t a personal record but was a personal best in this race, finished 70th of 1778 and 5th of 83 in my age group. The top 5 guys in the 50-54 age group where within 40 secs of each other, should have kicked a little harder in the end.
Jeff Wettig ran the Bockfest 5K and finished in a time of 24.24, which was a PR by 1 minutes 13 seconds.
The Bockfest 5K race is part of the Cincinnati Beer Series of races, so there is always lots of beer after. And being a downtown Cincinnati race it is quite hilly, and this year snowy and windy to boot. Conserved going up the hills and kicked butt going down the hills and felt strong throughout. Always my fav 5k and always PR at this race.
Georrge Bougas ran the Knosios Half Marathon and finished this race in the time of 2:03:37. This was a new personal record by 8:00.
My tune up race. Race took place in my city, Heraklion , the largest city in the beautiful island of Crete. Start point was at Knossos Antiquities, where there is the ancient palace of King Minos (2000 BC). I did a PR of 8 minutes since my last PR on October 2016. My finish time was 2:03:37, with an average of 5:51/km. I think that I could run faster, for sure sub 2 hours, but probably I did a mistake in my strategy. First kms were downhill, so I thought I could go faster. So I did, but I didn’t estimate the increased legs fatigue due to the downhill. This fact, combining with the high temperature (20 C) and the last 5 kms, that was uphill, made me to slow down and not achieve a better PR.
Overall I am satisfied. An 8 minutes PR shows significant improvement and gives me the hope that I can also achieve a PR in my target race on 9th of April, at Crete Marathon race.
Pam Schulz ran the Conoco Philips Rodeo Run 10k and finished with a time of 58:23.
I won my age group.(65-69) It was a PR for this course but not a overall 10K PR. Thanks for helping me pace myself!!!!
Patrick Callahan ran the Pacers St Pats Double Dash 10k and finished this race with a PR!
The double dash was a 5K at 8:15 am followed by a 10K at 9:00 am. So was I able to run two races for the price of one but it was a very cold morning. I am fortunate to have a supporting wife who helped keep me warm before, between, and after the race. As I was transferring my race data into my training log, calculating age grade, and looking at my previous 5Ks and 10Ks, I realized that I really couldn’t compare these races to any previous ones. The only thing that really matters is that I got to run 15K with almost 2,000 other runners.
Brandi Moody ran the Little Rock Half Marathon with a finishing time of 1:49:26, which was a PR by 10 seconds!
I had been looking forward to this race for a while. This course is a good course, with some long hills. This race is a big race with lots of people and lots of fans along the way. I felt going into the race I was able to set about a 3-4 minute PR. I made the mistake of forgetting, just how big races can be and the amount of people in the corrals lol! I ran with a friend of mine who was going to be running around the same pace as me. The weather was good! Slightly raining but around 53 degrees! The first two miles I felt like I lost a lot of energy trying to get past people. These first two miles set the pace for the rest of the race I felt like. But overall I was happy! I got to run with a good friend and I set a 10 second PR. I know I am in good shape, I just need the right race to prove it!
Javier Suarez ran the Avianca Runtour 10k and completed this distance in the time of 0:59:56, which was a PR!
I’ve been running for about two years and this was my first race. I managed to achieve my goal of running the 10K under 1 hour. I had to travel last week to a sea level city and had to come back Friday evening to Bogotá, at 8,500 ft. I think this change of altitude took a toll on me. I also got carried away by the race excitement and ran my first 2K too fast. Even with these issues, I’m very happy for my first race!!
April Palmer ran the Run Thru History 10k and finished this race event in the time of 55:27.
This is the toughest and most popular 10K in the area. It occurs in the very hilly National Military Park where the siege of Vickssburg occurred. This is where I did a lot of my marathon training so I had to run this race although it was still in my recovery phase. I know these hills well and was pretty much able to handle most of the uphills and fly down the downhills. I was doing fine until the last mile when I cramped up in my legs and side and had to walk for a few seconds. That cost me a minute and my competition got ahead. Overall a lot of fun in a beautiful and meaningful park.
Mark Soo ran the Khao Yai Half Marathon and finished in 1:35:17, which was a PR by 33 seconds!
This was scheduled as a tune up race but its really just a race I enjoy doing and this year its come right at the start of a new training cycle. My plan was to go out with a bit more conservatively for the first half and then depending on how I was feeling either pick up the pace or just take it easy and enjoy the run. As with my earlier marathon I started off quite easy and let many other runners pass me. I focused on my breathing and to try and find a rhythm to keep my pace.
I reached the halfway point feeling strong so I decided to pick up the pace a bit and see how the rest of the race would go. It went pretty well but had to tough it out a bit in the last few km’s. I ended up finishing in 1:35.17 which was a PB by 33 seconds. Very happy with that considering I’d taken some time off after my marathon in Feb and have only done easy runs since.
I felt much stronger during this race than in any previous half marathon. I’m sure its the strategy of starting more conservatively to ensure that I run a negative split and also the consistent training since joining Runners Connect.
The negative split for this race was 50:19 (4:48/km) and 44:58 (4:17/km).
Manos Drakopoulos ran the Nafplio Half Marathon and finished with a time of 1:43:56. This was a personal record by 6 minutes!
Although Paris Marathon is my goal race, today’s one felt more important to me. I wanted to run well and I knew I could do it. Discussed with Danny about the race and we set the target at 1:44:00 @4:55/km pace. My goal was 1:45 but deep down 1:44 felt within reach. Divided the race in 5k splits.
The first split I had divided furthermore into 2k + 3k, because I expected and was proven right that it would be crowded in the start. Started picking up my pace as soon as the road cleared and kept it steady very easily.
Second 5k split was just slightly faster, as per plan. Third 5k I started picking up pace a bit and given that there were only 10k left I knew it was game on!!
Fourth 5k was the fastest of all !! Despite having a steep 500m uphill at 16k, I kept cool slowed down a bit and then hit the gas … Last km was the fastest of the race !! I had to kill it cause I knew I could!!
Result was 1:43:56 a PR by approximately 6minutes ( and a 10k PR of 47:30 along the way ). The splits were the following
2.0k @5:11
3.0k @4:59
5.0k @4:58
5.0k @4:52
5.0k @4:44
1.3k @4:32So all in all a perfect race from my point of view.
Lesson one, be patient in crowded starts
Lesson two, evaluate effort along the way
Lesson three, when there are just 5k to go and you feel good, run like the wind.
Lesson four TRUST your training and coaches advice!!Overall effort was 4/5. I felt absolutely great crossing the finish line and I could have kept going. PARIS here we come !!!
Anna Neufeld ran the Trafford 10k, finishing this distance in the time of 41:12. This was a PR by 32 seconds!
Since the last tune up race (XC, early Feb) I had knee problems (spent many sessions on the elliptical to get the issue fixed, physio, supplements etc). Also, I already regretted I did the marathon surges 18-miler Sunday a week ago on an empty stomach; So, I thought I’d be happy with a 6:45mm pace, but ended up 6:36mm under dismal weather conditions (10mph wind, cold and heavy rain). What a nice surprise! Maybe glycogen-depleted surges aren’t that bad(?)
Rich Green ran the Myrtle Beach Marathon and finished in a time of 3:57:14.9.
Roger Corbin ran the Myrtle Beach Marathon with a finishing time of 3:50:10. This was a new personal record by 2:08.
Perfect weather 39 at start and 44 at finish..low wind. Last marathon was 4 years ago. I was very pleased with the result.
Rodrigo Jara Piccardo ran the Sanber Run 2017 and finished this race in the time of 27:40.
Not a PR but did my best in this 7k race. Luckily it wasn’t a hot day and rained during the competition. The bad: I slowed down too much on the hills. The good: I am more confident now that I can sustain a 3:50 min/km (6:10 min/mile) pace on a flat surface for the 5k, I have 1 month to probe it in my next race!
Carol Plummer ran the Rumba on the Lumber 5k and finished with a time of 22:50.
Now that I have turned 50, my PR days may be over. However, I did finish 3rd overall female (9th overall). It was a small race of less than 200 people. But I will take an overall win and the $125 prize that came with it. I was hoping to break 22:00, so disappointed in that. But I had a really stressful week coming into this race. So, I will try again for the sub 22 another time.
