A fantastic weekend for Team RunnersConnect as athletes notch 2 Personal Bests in races around the world

Paul Coxall ran the Brian Godwin 10km and finished this distance in the time of 43:55, which was a PR by 27 seconds!

The Brian Goodwin 10km is run a flat course in Pollock Park (Glasgow) with 2 x 5km loops. The plan was to run steady 4:24 pace all the way round. Although the 8th & 9th kms were a hard push I managed to get quicker for the last km. It really was a ‘dig in and work hard’ for the 2nd half of the race. My watch told me the average pace was 4:27 min/km so it was a huge and pleasant surprise to find my chip time was 43:55 at 4:24 min/km pace. The course is 10km and accredited by Scottish Athletics. It appears that Garmin measured it at 9.90km, due to GPS discrepancies and made my watch pace as 3 secs/km slower than reality.

So a lesson not to rely on GPS for totally accurate pacing. This race was a 27 second PB (for am a 2 second PB two weeks ago). My 1st ever Sub-44 10km. A Metro Running Club 3rd Standard time. It’s now onto the Sunset half-marathon next week and try to get 1:38:00 or lower.

Catherine Schroeder ran the Queens 10K and finished with a time of 59:07.

Depends on what you count as a PR – I did better in high school by 8.5 minutes when I had nothing better to do than run fast and get good grades and do extracurricular activities, but this is over a minute faster than anything I’ve done in this body that’s been raising children while having a demanding career for the past 18 years.

My right TFL has been tight the past couple of weeks and it’s been a heat wave so I cut waaaay back on my training. I was just planning to do the best I could for where I was. I didn’t get home from work till 9:30 last night so I ate pizza and went to bed then up at 6. Fueled smart this morning and had a great warmup.

The corrals were too full and NYRR wasn’t really enforcing proper corrals for wave 2 so the first mile the other people in the proper corral and I were dodging walkers and joggers. I kept a constant effort and went through the 5K at a bit over 30 minutes. Plan was to hang on at that effort and push the last 0.2. Instead I just kept feeling better and better and gradually allowed myself to creep up. It stayed soo crowded on the course (and still with the people walking! I’ve got to get fast enough to get to the first wave!) so I didn’t feel safe enough to sprint my hardest at the end. I decided falling would not be in my best interest so I just pushed a bit hard.

James Althauser ran the Speed Bootcamp – 5k with a finishing time of 18:19.

First 5k I’ve done in a long time. Won the masters division. Perfect weather and perfect splits. Very encouraging.

Cassie Gaede ran the Grandmas Marathon and finished this race in the time of 3:57:09. This was a massive personal record by 20 minutes!

What a race! Going into this race, I knew that overall I had increased my speed but was worried how it would present itself in a race situation. My 1st marathon was in 2020 and became a virtual race. This experience was my first live marathon. I went into it very nervous. I felt great through mile 21. As always, my running has and always will be a way to maintain mental health. Today I pushed myself when my body was begging me to stop. It felt amazing to cross that finish line under 4 hours!!

Jane Papenhuyzen ran the Winnipeg Half Marathon and finished in a time of 2:50:00.

Due to extreme heat, the race was officially cancelled when I reached about the 10 km mark. Runners were permitted to continue without official support and finishing time. I geared down and treated the event as a long run, pacing consistently. Used every opportunity to take fluids and use cooling stations, wet sponges, ice cubes, etc to maintain a cool core. Felt amazingly great throughout and had a strong last 2 miles. Still received finishing medal and enjoyed the finish into the pro football stadium.

Robin Whitley ran the Queens 10k, finishing this distance in the time of 1:28:38.

Since COVID in early May, I’m just happy I get to do this. Many disruptions to training over the past six months but I held on. 14.5 weeks to London!

El Jones ran the Hungry but Humble 5k and finished with a time of 22:35.

First 5k in a hot minute. Wanted to try out my legs. Was ok with my time. Small race but managed to finish 2nd female and masters. Disappointed no beer at the finish! 🍻😜
