Vijay Vadali ran the Park Run 5k, finishing this distance in the time of 23:15.
Not a PR and it was just an OK time trial. Reached the Park Run location just about 20 minutes before the start due to uncertainty about the weather. Barely ran a half mile warmup and then did some quick speed drills before listening to the intro about the course/Park Run rules (this was my first). Took off a bit too fast and slowed down later. Since this was not a “race”, there wasn’t a very strong sense of urgency to go crazy with the finish either.
Mary Shepherd ran the Sunrise Series #2–Scottsdale Sports Comples 5k and finished with a time of 33:05.
This was the second in the series of 7 summer 5Ks in the Phoenix area. This race was more or less to run the course twice and each time was sort of a figure 8. It had mild elevation change so, at least for me felt almost flat. One very nice thing about this series of races is that you can start early. I started about 5:40 am this time and found it much nicer to have people around, but not be crowded. The mass start was at 6:30 and I was done well before that. I felt better about my pacing this time, it was more consistent and I had enough in the tank to sprint to the finish line. Now for a few stats. I ran this by my watch about 5 seconds per mile faster than two weeks ago, by the official time, about 13 seconds per mile faster. There were 576 runners and I was 297/576. Of females I was 134/344 and in my age group 3/11. Yes, I made it to the podium this time!!! But that was really weird because everything before they did the announcing had me in 4th place. After they called the original first 3 finishers up, someone much have discovered an age error and they called that group back (not sure there were any of them there), and called my name for 3rd place. Woo hoo! I was so startled I didn’t have anyone take my picture, but I got to stand on the podium for a minute or so. I’m not sure I will catch the first and second place women in my age group. Their times were significantly faster than mine (first place was about 3-4 minutes faster). And the lady that placed 3rd two weeks ago was about 30 seconds slower than me today.
Christina Kach ran the Run to Remember 5 Miler with a finishing time of 43:05. This was a PR by 29 seconds!
First race I got to run with my boyfriend. But also – the course was long (ended up being 5.1 though not 5.2) and I STILL got a PR 43:05 pace 8:27 for 5.1 miles.
Corrinne Mills ran the BoA Chicago Half Marathon and finished this race in the time of 2:07:55.
Not as strong a finishing kick as in Indianapolis a month ago, but a faster time. 30 seconds slower than this race last year, but given what a rough winter I had for training, I’m pretty darn pleased. 90th out of 477 F45-49
Mario Ortiz ran a Time Trial 10k and completed this distance in the time of 44:14.
Done on a track @ 5000ft in altitude. Splits were pretty even, as the second 5K was just 5s slower than the first 5K. Although it was not a PR, it as 32s faster than the same time trial distance on the same track from 1 year ago.
Jeffery Larson ran the North Shore Classic Half Marathon and completed this race event in the time of 1:33:18.
Overall race was executed well. I started salt loading the day before and continued in the morning prior to the race. Race nutrition was 90 g carbs/hr (30 g every 20 min) and my stomach handled that well with the high effort. Bodes well for the fall marathons. I kept my effort fairly consistent and even managed the smallest negative split. I’m not certain if I had much more in the tank or if I could have held a faster pace. Maybe that means I balanced the effort pretty well.
