Logan Berry ran the Hotter than the Sun 5k and finished with a time of 20:18, which was a PR by 16 seconds!
So… I went off-script again today. I wasn’t planning on going all out since I still had 20 miles to run today. I did want to pace myself better than my last 5k though. Well I did. I settled in somewhere in the top 10 and maintained a steady 6:38 effort. I ran a focused 3rd mile and when it started to burn I latched onto the guy next to me who was hurting too and we strengthened each other. According to my Garmin I wasn’t going to PR. Then near the finish I realized oh wow that said 20, not 21, and blazed through to the end. I somehow set a 16 second PR!
Bill Keefe ran the Thursday Night Fever 5k and finished this distance in the time of 21:12. This was a PR by 36 seconds!
Monthly 5k race in Cambridge. A pretty good crowd, about 700. Went out at 6:50, which up until now has meant death in mile 2. I did lose a few seconds but kept my mind on pace, and foot strikes, which seemed to help me maintain speed. Just before mile 2, I had someone come up behind me on my left. Wouldn’t or couldn’t pass me but he just hung there. It was great for me. For a short while, I put some space between us. Alas, in the end, despite my finishing the last couple hundred yards in under a 6:00-mile pace, his 20+-year-old legs clipped me at the finish. Still, I went up and heartily thanked him. Maybe the next best thing to putting a bullseye on someone is to know that someone has one on you. It’s a great motivator!!
Tony Malinauskas ran the Savage Race Chicago and finished in a time of 1:34:57.
FIRST PLACE in my age group, and 100% obstacle completion! I’m really happy as the course had 2 particularly technical obstacles that I had to retry 4-5x each before succeeding. After upgrading from Open division to Competitive division racing a few years ago, I’ve been on the podium several times for my AG, but this is my first gold.
Eric Reichenbach ran the Bowerman 5k, finishing this distance in the time of 25:40. This was a personal record by 2 minutes!
Evening race, trail and road with low hills, 5k is not my race of choice but it was fun and I got to talk to some elite runners.
Andra Ghent ran the Full Moon 5K and completed this race in the time of 23:13.
Off my PR by of 3 weeks ago by 5 seconds even though today was much cooler weather. There are a lot of pluses about this race which I will get to but a few lessons for next time:
1) I decided not to run with a headlight which cost me a few seconds due to slowing down in some dark spots. Run with a headlight for night races even if most other people are not.
2) I didn’t check the course ahead of time and I ran into the only hill there was on the last 1/4 mile. Very disheartening.
3) For some reason I just did not have the drive/pain toleranace to put in that extra bit of effort the way I did on July 1. I had the same issue on a NYE race that was at night so maybe my body just doesn’t think nighttime is the time to go all out.Now for the pluses:
1) My inner right ankle held up well and feels fine today thanks perhaps to @Coach Dylan’s KTape suggestion. This is a big relief for me.
2) I ran into lots of friends at this race. It was a good party before and afterward.
3) I won a door prize of a nice Saucony tech t-shirt!
4) It was a gorgeous night (full moon!) to run around Monona bay
Riona Courtney ran the Run Killarney Half Marathon with a finishing time of 2:02:11. This was a new personal record by 2 minutes!
Beautiful lakes and mountains!
Susan Spencer ran the Dennis Road Race five mile and finished with a time of 39:58:00.
Camaraderie, free beer and burgers at the end. Otherwise, a total sweat fest.
Ashley Smith ran the WorldVision Timed 5K Run and finished this race in the time of 35:58:00.
This was my first timed 5K.
Megan Fitzpatrick ran the Pacifica Trail Run 20k with a finishing time of 2:06.
The elevation change here was nearly 3,000 feet up and down and up and down again! Great race, I was in third for a good portion, but caught the runners on the last 4 miles since I am finally learning racing pace and fueling tricks to make it to the end! I probably could have gone a little harder, but was so much fun to just enjoy the race.
Richard Alberts ran the Washie 100 Miler and finished the race event in the time of 25:48:00, which was a PR!
Thanks to my son who ran the last 23kms with me and kept me going. He’s not a runner…..but I am so proud of him. It’s because of him that I managed to finish. I was so tired during the race. Had several sleeps in the car just so I could keep going. 5min naps made a huge difference every few hours. Cut the time really fine, finishing with just 12 minutes to spare. Started into very strong headwinds and rain….finishing 40kms….also really strong headwinds.
Erin Wood ran the Jack and Jill’s Downhill Marathon and finished in a time of 3:28:36.
I qualified for Boston!! And beat the goal I had set for myself (3:30). The course was beautiful! It’s slightly downhill the whole way, on an old railway track made into a trail in the Cascades, complete with a two-mile, completely pitch black tunnel and long wooden bridges over deep valleys. I can’t add splits here because our watches didn’t work correctly. Thankfully they gave us an arm tattoo with our pacing times to help keep track. I felt good for the majority of the race. Thankfully my achilles did not really bother me. I stayed with the 3:30 pacer for the first half and then moved ahead. Until the last 4-5 miles I was close to 4 minutes ahead of my 3:30 goal pace. Then I started feeling pretty bad. The last two miles took about all I had to keep running Thankfully, I had some wiggle room and still qualified and hit my goal!
Thank you coaches for the great training plan, and all your encouragement and advice! And thanks to fellow members for your support! I’ve really enjoyed being a part of the RC community!
Adrian Thorpe ran the Triathlon 10KM and finished with a time of 44:21.
Winning the Age Group and beating the 2 age groups below me. Should come in under 2:10 on a flat bike course in Kraichgau in 2 Weeks time.
Megan Hanks ran the Jack & Jill Downhill Marathon and finished in 3:35:48. This was a personal record by 10 minutes!
Huge PR which led to a BQ time! BQ time for my age group is 3:45 and I ran a 3:35:48! Previous best time was 3:44:46 and that was in 2014! Thank you RC for the great training plans and keeping me on track through an injury early in my training! I’ve been chasing a BQ for past few years and finally got it done!!! So excited!!!
Paul Herrerias ran the San Francisco Half Marathon with a finishing time of 1:38:04, which was a PR by 25 seconds!
Came in 3rd place in my age group. Oddly, my time was 4 minutes faster than last year’s first place finisher! Couple really fast runners attended this year, beating even the age class below us. Also, I outsprinted 3 runners at the finish, only to find out one was in my age group putting me into 3rd place and the record books!
Overall, felt like my training was pretty good for this race. My left hip pain came and went. Need to strengthen my hamstrings, and keep working on my cadence/overall strength. Great tour of San Francisco, and decent setup at both beginning and end of race.
Hitomi Murokami ran the San Francisco Half Marathon and completed this distance in the time of 2:04:53.
No PR. Very tired for the hills. Still 2nd place in my age group made me happy.
Julio Smarcaro ran the São Paulo Run City Half Marathon with a finishing time of 1:56:11.
Final tune-up race before my second marathon on September 9th. It wasn’t easy to wake up at 4am to run at 6am. I wasn’t able to eat much. Anyway, It wasn’t that bad as may appear but it wasn’t pretty either. I did this race with some headache and feeling a little sick.
The circuit has a difficult first half with some up’s and down’s, and slight uphill for almost 2km. That’s why the pace was a little erratic. Despite my condition I was able to push the pace a little bit in the second half. It helped to have the company of this lady I met who was running at my pace on her first HM on our last 5km. I think we both helped each other. Despite all this, I finished in 1:56:10, which is my second best now. But it guess the lesson was learnt. I need to keep focus now and trying to lose some weight as well.
Kevin Daniel ran the Colorado Springs Classic 10K and finished with a time of 47:51:00. This was a new personal record by 1:40.
This race was special because when I ran it last year, it was my first 10k ever. From the same race last year to this year, I have improved around 7 minutes, and this is a PR from the Bolder Boulder of about 1:40 from earlier this year. The course is mostly downhill with a bus back to the start, which helps encourage PRs, but I really felt strong throughout this whole race. I really am excited to continue to see improvements to my pace and stamina as I work through the workouts and listening to the great feedback from the coaches at RC. Can’t wait to keep on it, and see what else I’m able to accomplish this season, thanks Runners Connect!
