5 Personal Bests highlight the great weekend of races for Team RunnersConnect

Eddie Chang ran the Gold Coast Marathon 2019 and finished with a time of 3:33:56.

Gold coast race I did well finished 2 minutes faster then last race in Hong Kong marathon in Feb 2019. The race started with rain, everyone was soap wet and uncomfortable to run. It was windy and wet for the 1st 10km.

For my first 30km everything in good control, pacing well and on target. Cramp started to kick in from 34km onward, my calves and glutes started to get more tense up, resulted my last 8km performance not able to maintain the 5min pace for my 3hr 30mins goal. Last 2km was running against head wind make it more challenging to push through…The windy course might caused me loss lot of body fluid. Might need to relook into on my nutrition during race.

Rob Walton ran the LL Bean 10K and finished this distance in the time of 56:00.

Too fast, too hot, too steep. Again I went out too fast. The hills were more than I expected. While not too, too hot it was certainly hotter than I was accustomed. The race started with a nice downhill and then went up from there. The hill in mile 3 which I ran well sapped me.

So I am proud that I finished and didn’t quit. I need to start races back with the 9:00 pace runners so I don’t run too fast to start. My two best recent races, a half and a 15k, I ran for fun, started slow, finished fast and enjoyed. The races where I’m going for a new PR I screw up and start too fast. I need to take my fun race mindset and pacing into my big goal races. I suspect that will be easier said than done.

Bill Leppert ran the Crazy 8’s 8K and completed this distance in the time of 36:20.

Much better than expected on this 8K race. The race starts at 8:58 PM. 83 degrees and dew point of 73 was a 25 second per mile adjustment from the calculator. I started behind the 7:30 Pacer, I knew not to pass him at least the first mile, 1st mile 7:34. On the second mile it felt a lot down hill so I kinda just let the little hill pull me down and about half way through it I went by the 7:30 pacer, at 4K average 7:29. The rest of the race by feel, hurting pretty much the last mile. Second place in age group 15 seconds behind the age group winner.

This is a big exciting race with several professional runners running for prize money. I’ve decided to run the 2019 TCS New York City Marathon with Team for Kids and I am asking for your support of their inspiring mission. https://runwithtfk.org/Profile/PublicPage/66304/38295

Greg Arampatzis ran the LVRR Summer Series 5k and finished with a time of 23:19.

Stoked with this result, especially considering I didn’t go all out (since I have a trail half marathon this weekend). This was my 4th fastest 5k overall, but it was my fastest summer 5k, and my fastest for this course! It was hot out with a temp of 86 and real feel of 92, but it didn’t seem too bad.

This was the first time I had a real plan for this race. I tried to make sure I didn’t start out too fast. I didn’t mind having about 5 to 8 or so people pass me in the beginning, I just stuck to my race plan and managed to push harder as the race went on. I was able to negative split the race and passed about a 10 to 12 people in the second half of the race. It looks like all those slow, easy runs are starting to pay off!

James Althauser ran the Ohio/Michigan 5k and finished this race in the time of 19:29.

The temperature during the race was 83°. It was also a 7:30pm start time and I never run in the evenings. I was definitely slow because of these factors. The race was tough. I was 6th out of 454 and I won my age group so it was fun and not discouraging but it was not a good way to really measure how fast I am right now. I would like to try to fit in another one prior to the next marathon.

Maurice McMahon ran the Irish Milers 3000m Track and finished in a time of 9.08.

3000m on Track. Got put in grade A which was very fast with the winner in 8.09. I ran the 1st lap in 68 which was too fast. After about 1 1/2 laps got isolated from the main pack and ended up leading the next group. There was a strong headwind on the back straight which I ended up with no shelter. Myself and another moved away from group and with about 2 1/2 laps to go he passed me. Happy with my last 40p and finished strong down the home straight for a 9.08. Happy out as it’s a seasons best and 14 secs faster than just over a week ago.

Oleg Kyrylko ran the II Peter and Paul Half Marathon “The Seagull” 10k and finished in 0:54:36. This was a massive personal record by 21:50.

Today the race was completely as I planned and this is my next PR (21:50!). I planned 55:00, and the chip time showed 54:36. Maybe I could run faster, but after three kilometers I started feeling tired in my legs.

Without the help of coaches and the RC team, I could not have achieved this result, thank you. I’m happy.

Tara Little ran the Bowie 6 Miler Trail Race with a finishing time of 1:01.

75 degrees and overcast with 77 dew point. Rocky, technical trail takes a lot out of the early miles. I had wanted to go easy for two miles, pick it up and cruise 2-5, and let it go for the final. But what’s “easy” effort in the beginning of a race with the hardest terrain at the top? So I focused on mindset, with the goal to just run bravely. I’d ask myself “what’s brave in this moment?” Sometimes it was to shorten my stride, or control my breathing, or drop my shoulders in order to keep moving forward. Like my last race, stomach upset crept in toward the end. Then my effort was not about how my legs were moving, but how fast could I go without stopping to heave. I finished hard and focused, and I did all my dry heaving after the finish line. 1:01 is just 5 minutes off my best time on this course in 2015, which I ran shortly after a 21:09 5k PR. So five minutes off my fittest self ever is not so bad. Ready to focus on the fall!

Christina Beliso ran the Across the Bay 12k and finished this race in the time of 1:14, which was a PR!

First 12k. First one with a bib, time chip, medal, and shirt. I’m proud of the way I ran it, despite health hiccups going into it.

Sarah Mandina ran the Retro 4-Miler and finished with a time of 33:08.

My goal was to be around my goal time for the half marathon which is ~8:25/mile. I bet that which was great. It was a tough race with the heat and the rolling hills.

Jaclyn Mienkiewicz ran the Boilermaker 15k and finished this race event in the time of 1:38:49. This was a new personal record by 3:05.

The first half felt pretty hard because of heat and hills but I made a mental decision to really try to push myself to a PR because I knew I had it in me.

Angella Plowman ran a Marathon race and finished in a time of 4:57:47, which was a PR!

It was my first time doing a marathon and my family was there to support me. My husband and 2 children each made a sign and held it up for me, I cried the first time I saw the signs.

Greg Arampatzis ran the Spartan Trail 21k- Palmerton with a finishing time of 4:23:26.

Hardest race I’ve ever done and my longest run time-wise. Very challenging and humbling. I’ve never walked (hiked) so much in a race before; needless to say I was well short of a sub 3 hour trail half. This was the first time I ever fell down in a race, but it was actually a pretty graceful slip in the mud, a spin around and right back up. It gave me a good laugh. Then another section was quite steep and nothing to hold on to so I just decided to slide down on my butt.

Most of the huge climbs in the first half were in the hot sun. By the time I got into the deep woods in the 2nd half of the race the shade was nice but my legs and mind were tired. Going forward definitely need to incorporate more hill workouts, and some more runs on some technical trails. I also need to make sure I nail down my nutrition better. Overall though I had fun and I know what I need to work on for next time.

Philippe Delecheneau ran the Melbourne Half Marathon and finished with a time of 2:02:15, which was a PR by 40 seconds!

Sri Chinmoy Half Marathon: Very cold conditions, 8 Degree C but with the wind feel like 5/6!! Cloudy and rained during the last 10 kms of the race. The race is done around a park 5 km loop, plus added distance to make it to 21k. Most of the course is flat, except the last 1.5 ks who is up hill. So 4 hills. I got a surprise when Jacques, which whom I do my long run appears 2mn before the start.

First we did the extra km, a bit fast then I slow down a bit. then did the first lap in 28’30, then I slow down a bit 29’13. 3rd lap try to focus on pace but still slower than I wanted 29’44. Decided to do a few surges to wake up the legs, seems to work, and started to chase other runners. Even if the rain was there was feeling good and in control even kind of sprinted the last kms (someone was behind me) uphill finish the last lap in 28’25! I was hoping to finally go Sub 2h , but miss it by less than 400m…
