16 Personal Bests highlight Team RunnersConnect spectacular weekend of races in all distances

Karen Wilson ran the The Louisiana Marathon and finished with a time of 3:55:04, which was a PR by 2:49.

This race was special to me because it was a big PR and I met my goal of getting a BQ!! The weather conditions (60’s and 100% humidity) were not ideal for me and I was worried that it just wasn’t going to happen. But I put the training in and I would try to adjust my paces. Everything went pretty good until mile 22 and I had to stop and walk. I did some deep digging and told myself that all those months of training WILL pay off but I’ve got to keep moving! I ended up walking three more times because of a side cramp but I’m so excited to have reached my goal! I definitely wouldn’t have been able to do this without the help of RunnersConnect. I’m so happy to be a part of this running community : ) A huge THANK YOU!

Christy Green ran the Rock and Roll Phoenix Half Marathon and finished with a time of 1:59:04. This was a personal record by 9 minutes!

New PR… rain was originally forecasted but it never happened. Instead it was 51 and overcast. Beautiful weather for a half marathon! The RnR has bands at just about every mile…great music! There were 10,278 runners in the half alone! I’m always impressed with how organized this race is. My recovery lunch was crab stuffed chicken at the Arrogant Butcher and then my husband and I went to the UFC fights. That was a new experience! Now it’s time to focus on the Phoenix Marathon! My first!

Kathleen Juliian ran the Louisiana Half Marathon with a finishing time of 3:04:02, which was a PR by 2 minutes!

Time with my sisters. Happy with result after hip problem end of December. No hip pain throughout race. Temperature 72F with 97% humidity. Felt like breathing underwater but thankfully overcast so no direct sun. No complaints.

Ken Walker ran the Carlsbad Marathon and finished in a time of 4:16:31, which was a PR by 3 minutes!

I had planned to do sub 4 hours but was not prepared for the additional hills from mile 19 to the finish and my legs tired out. Maybe I was a bit too ambitious but I followed my plan and bought a race specific pace band for a 3:50 finish but from mile 19 on I could not keep that pace. I was not trying to put time in the bank and I am not sure if I had gone a little slower at the start if that would have helped with the hills at the end. Just when you thought you had done the last hill another appeared.

Deidra Petty ran the Louisiana Half Marathon and finished this race in the time of 1:50:50.

I love the Louisiana Marathon. I have run it every year. For a hot minute I considered not running the Half this year because I am injured. My piriformis is a pain the butt (and also down the leg)! How could I not do it?? I love everything about this race. I love how super organized it is. I love the course. I love the after party. I love that I see my local running buddies working the Expo. I just love it!

But being injured is awful… in the week leading up to this race, I iced, stretched, strengthened, was massaged, self-medicated, and prayed. My pain eased yet persisted. The morning of the race was exactly. Even though I initially felt every step, at some point the pain became bearable, and I enjoyed the run. I thought about my pacing and I felt like I was in control. The feeling lasted till mile 10’s slight uphill when the pain returned. There were 3 places where I had some mishaps and took extra time, but live and learn. It was a great day!

Joe Mullen ran the SVR Winter Series #4 5 Miler and completed this distance in the time of 34:44.

Brisk run through rain. Two seconds slower than my time last year in the same race.

Claire Bartholic ran the Charleston Marathon and finished with a time of 3:06:57. This was a new personal record by 4:24.

I wanted this race to be a happy one and it was. I was not looking to go to the well and give it everything I’ve got, but just have a good race. I was super solid and comfortable until the last 10K where I let go of my drive to push hard on pace, but I was thrilled to still pull off third place and stand on the podium with elite marathoner Esther Atkins (who was just using this as a training run).

Kristie Rios ran the Rock N Roll Arizona Half Marathon and finished in 3:42:30. This was a personal record by 23 minutes.

This wasn’t my fastest half marathon. I was about 1 minutes shy of it. It was, however 23 minutes faster than last year’s Rock N Roll Arizona. I had gained a lot of weight leading up to that race and was just not running as well as I would have liked. So losing 50 pounds since January 2016, I ran this 23 minutes faster than last year!

Cesar Hinojosa ran the McAllen Marathon Scott Crane Memorial Run and finished with a time of 5:09:00.

First full marathon. I had trained for a better time but there were a number of factors that made it a very difficult run. Humidity was 100% and very strong winds did not help either. I started cramping at mile 15 and had to walk a lot. I had never had cramps in my training. Overall, I feel satisfied to have completed this goal. This was my first full marathon but will not be my last. Thank you RC.

Rodrigo Jara Piccardo ran the Campeonato Nacional de Cross Country 8k, finishing this distance in the time of 36:05.

Cross Country 8k Race, I did my best effort beside the very warm weather and hard course, very satisfied.

Ameya Udyavar ran the SCMM Mumbai Half Marathon and finished in a time of 2:37.

It’s one of the premier races held in India. 15000 run the half marathon. The weather was very humid (90% humidity), however I could manage to complete near my intended time of 2:30. So, very satisfied and happy!

Krishna Kumar ran the Standard Charted Mumbai Marathon 2017 and finished the race event in the time of 5:21:00.

I approached this race with a lot of apprehension since I had missed few LSDs leading up the race. Arrived in Mumbai on Sat and collected the BIBs at the expo. Meeting few old running friends calmed the nerves. Next day morning, started the run at 5:45 am.

Target for 21 k was @ 2:18. hit the half way mark at 2:20. At 25K stopped for the first time. Found it difficult to start running again but kept at it slowly till 31. At this point did not have the power or motivation to push harder so settled for a run/walk routine of 400 mtrs run and 100 mtrs walk till the end.

A disappointed with 5:20 finish but given the breakage in my training schedule it was a honest time. Thanks to the variety in the training schedules was able to survive the last 10 K. Lots of learning from this race and I am determined to do better in the next race. Thanks to the running plan and inputs from Coaches.

Kumara Raghavan ran the SCMM Marathon with a finishing time of 3:23:20. This was a PR by 9 minutes!

PR by almost 9 minutes at the Mumbai Marathon. Missing most of my training in Nov, left me with a slightly lower confidence. Even the tune up race in end-Dec indicated a 3:45 kind of finish. However, I did well to workout hard through crossfit and recover fitness in December, but ultimately it was the well-planned RC scheduled and the million other tips the good folks here provide from fuelling and nutrition strategy to mental conditioning that carried me through.

I could feel myself speeding up effortlessly with every passing km (much to my alarm, I might add. I was worried I’d burn myself out). However, the energy never left with me and I was comfortably passing other runners even till the last 400m. The last 400m was in fact at my fastest pace of the race. My experiment with a high fat diet for 10 days and carb loading for the 3 days before race also seems to have worked well.

Thanks to this awesome community for all the help and support. Will return in a month with renewed goals for the rest of the year!

Pam Carr ran the Shark Bite Half Marathon and finished with a time of 1:33:29, which was a PR!

I only decided to run this race earlier in the week. Even though it was not a PR for me, It was a 30 second PR for me running here in central Florida. Previous half here was in December. It was 58 at race start and mid 60s at end. I placed 3rd OA female. Now on to my marathon in 2 weeks.

Chris DeMarche ran the Prairie Dog Half Marathon and finished this race in the time of 1:50:34, which was a PR by 4 minutes!

Local race to keep me running thru the winter. 26 F & at ~5400 ft altitude with most of run was thru frozen fields. Race was near Boulder CO so there were some fast runners but mostly everyone was spread out. Between the cold and the initial hills it took a few miles to get a pace going. Took first in my age group , 60-69, would have been 3rd in 50-59 age group. Was 41st of 230 male & female finishers. Was 13th, AGE adjusted for males.

Kory Wnuk ran the Louisiana Marathon and finished in 3:52:09. This was a personal record by 2:16.

I woke at 4:30 AM checked the weather and revised my race plan to account for the warmer weather. Once the race got rolling, I threw the plan out the window because everything felt so effortless…until mile 17 when the heat and humidity jumped on my back like a bear. At the 10K point I was ahead of last year’s time by 4 minutes. At the half-way point I was ahead by 9:21. However, I finished at 3:52:09, which was a PR by 2:16. I was sopping wet from sweat even after taking in Powerade or water at every aid station. I also chugged down the GU every four miles. The last 6 miles were definitely a struggle. Overall I finished #187/951 and #13/57 for my age group. I was really hoping to provide better results.

I got to meet @Deidra Petty before the race and see her on the course. I really did not run this race as smart as I could have…memories of 2015 have crept into my brain. The way I figure it, there is always next year to redeem myself.

David Hammar ran the Ocala Half Marathon and finished with a time of 1:44:21, which was a PR!

This was race number five in a local eight part racing series that started last Fall and runs until July 4th. I started the RC program and competing last March. I have been in first place for my age division running the 10 and 5k’s till now and wanted to stretch my comfort zone in hopes of holding onto that lead by earning major points associated with a good half finish versus running a 5k today.

Not sure how I would adapt to this length, I started training on this hilly course after my last race six weeks ago and was able to run the full length three times before today. Semi easy efforts with fast finishes left me with a goal time today of 1:48-1:50. Running with thoughts of my dad, who passed on yesterday, I finished 2nd with a time I thought I could never reach this soon. Very thankful for my results and the coaching I have received.

J. Wade Bainum ran the Houston Marathon and finished this race in the time of 3:50:33. This was a new personal record by 7 minutes!

It was a difficult race with the heat and humidity. The starting temp was 64 degrees and 92% humidity. Thankfully, it was cloudy and there was a cool breeze at parts of the marathon. I was happy with the results. A lot of people from the 3:30 marathon group of my local running club ran around 3:50, so there were definitely challenging conditions.

Chris Bannerman ran the Chevron Houston Marathon and finished in a time of 5:09:01, which was a PR!

This was my first ever marathon. It was very hot, started out as a yellow and finished red. I took it slow, but was having an ache about 2 inches below my knee joint on the outside of my leg. I walked some and jogged some and even sprinted at the end. Was glad that I didn’t have to walk too much and felt properly fueled. Just need to work on leg strength and endurance. Glad it is over, but it was a good experience. Already have my wife and myself registered for the half next year. 🙂

Joyce Holz ran the Houston Marathon and completed this race event in the time of 4:20.

It was my 11th Houston marathon in a Row so It’s written on my bib that I have completed 10. It’s also a home race and I really wanted a PR but weather did not cooperate again. I was still hoping for 4:10. I think the nail in the coffin in this race happened in two places. One, we saw a runner collapse at mile 16, as a physician and my friend who was running with me, a CRNA, we stopped to carry him off the course and stabilized him until Medic showed up. Second, I started to have calf cramps at mile 20 and can’t find any salt from anybody. Finally got a bag of pretzel, dumped the pretzel out and licked the salt which did stopped the cramping! Walked most of water stations trying to get enough hydration in.

Ron Dawson ran the Houston Half Marathon with a finishing time of 1:36:36.

I signed up for the full but only ran the half due to an existing injury to my left quad since October. I missed about a month of training in November and December. I am getting ready for Boston and didn’t want to take any chances. My leg feels fine. I’m Boston bound!

Virginia Howell ran the Lyons Fort Pierce 1/2 Marathon and finished with a time of 2:08:54. This was a massive personal record by 36 minutes!

It was great because I gave it my best and it paid off. All of the training came together today! Totally enjoyed this race. I feel a sense of accomplishment! I am tired but happy with the outcome. Nothing is broken, pulled or strained. My purpose today was to run as fast as I could and not to focus on the time. I wanted to test my limits and I did. So, I ended up with a PR and a big one!! Last 1/2 was 2:44:18. My running has come a long way and I can say that I have come to respect the process and enjoy it more. Plus the best part, I have made some wonderful friends along the way. Thank you RC coaches for all of your wisdom and support!! This success belongs to you too so enjoy!

Angel Cordero ran the La Perla Abre Sus Puertas 5k and completed this distance in the time of 27:25.

It is regarded as the toughest 5K in Puerto Rico. Eight 90 degrees turns, three 180 degrees turns, two particularly high hills and a steep down hill (which was particularly difficult for me). On top of that it was abnormally windy. The best part of it is that I finished first in my age category (60+) and that my finish time was approx. one min faster than my original expectations.

Melinda DeCosta ran the Bermuda Race Weekend Half Marathon and finished in 2:08:33. This was a new PR by 20 minutes!

This is such a great weekend in Bermuda with international runners here. My first half marathon was in May and it was 77 degrees and 90% humidity so it wasn’t a day for good times. Today I thought if I can stay on the pace I want I’ll come in at 2:12:00 and I finished in 2:08:33 I was so happy with the result. I ran with a friend and she pulled me along the first half and I was stronger the second half!

Kim Rankin ran the Saint Pete Beach Classic 5k, finishing this distance in the time of 39:10.

Two things made this race special. The race was in St Pete Beach at a resort that was the perfect host hotel, and the weather has been great this entire weekend. But mainly this was special because I spent this race weekend with a friend I hadn’t seen in almost 2 years. We ended up running different races because I dropped to 5k since I’m still recovering from having had the flu. My time for the race was slow. But I took in every moment of the beautiful day and felt appreciative for being healthy enough to complete this 5k and enjoy the great weekend with a great friend.

Priscila Minott ran the Carrera Saprissa Half Marathon and finished with a time of 1:47:54.

Leslie May ran the Houston Marathon with a finishing time of 4:30:54.

I survived it. My husband watched the elite finishers on the Jumbotron and noted many comments about the heat and humidity. For me, I had a much better start than last year but by 1/3 of the way, I knew I couldn’t keep my pace. I have NEVER seen so many people of all ages and fitnesses walking during a marathon. I am just glad that I finished. I stopped at every station for Gatorade to drink and water to dump on my head.

Russ Lilley ran the Winter Series #4 5 miler and finished this race in the time of 51:10.

The sleet and rainy and slick dirt roads were very special. I did do a better job of dressing. It was 34 degrees and I only needed my 32 degree base layer and a water resistant top layer. I usually over dress. Not this time.

Hilary Windsor ran the Walt Disney World Marathon and finished with a time of 4:28:11, which was a PR!

This race was special because it was my first marathon and also because when my husband was admitted to the hospital in Orlando Thursday night with possible meningitis, it did not appear as though I was going to get to race. A lot of sleep was lost and it was a very stressful situation, but he did not have meningitis. He was released Saturday afternoon and he insisted I run. 🙂 So glad I did. I really enjoyed my experience and the Lord gave me all the strength I needed to make it the whole way.
