Marina Emery ran the Kaiser Permanente San Francisco Half Marathon and finished with a time of 2:20.
I ran the race + 3 miles for a total of 16! Not only was this the longest distance I’ve ever run outside of doing one full 4 years ago (I never ran that far in my “training” for it), it’s the first half I’ve ever run without stopping. I even powered up the hill that was the last half mile to the finish line!
Don Laonipon ran the Heart & Sole Half Marathon with a finishing time of 1:48:11. This was a personal record by 0:04:50.
I went into this race thinking I had a reasonably good chance of making my goal of a sub 1:50:00 half marathon. I had a time of 1:53:01 for my previous PR just obtained in March of 2017. The weather was just about perfect for this race and I felt good as I was running the race. The last mile was really challenging since my cardiovascular system and muscles were getting tired, but I was still able to pull out a PR by 4 min 50 sec. I used this half marathon as a tune up race for my March marathon, so I am hopeful I will be able to adjust my goal to a sub 4 hour marathon.
Anne Hardy ran the Kaiser Permanente SF Half Marathon and finished in a time of 1:48:41. This was a PR by 2 minute 11 seconds!
2 minutes and 11 seconds better than last year ?. I wanted to do 1:48:00 and I planned my race for that. Target pace was 8:14/mile and I did 8:13/mile… So all good except that the course was 13.2 mile. So I went over 1:48:00 and did (chip time) 1:48:41.
I was better with pacing myself during the 1st miles. I still started a little too fast. I was very careful in the downhills: never went under 8min/mile. The long straight flats from mile 7 to mile 12 are super hard for me, mentally, after 2 miles of downhill. I did better than before but mile 12 was deadly and it was my slowest mile. I picked up my pace on mile 13 which was uphill but at least it was over. Super happy!
Con J Kittos ran the SunRun 10k and finished this distance in the time of 48:59. This was a new personal record by 5 minutes!
RunnersConnect – You keep on giving.
Very pleased with this race result, 5 minutes faster than the same event last year and a new PR for me in a 10km race. By most accounts 48:59 is not fast but I only took to running about four years ago, at the age of 50 and after having smoked for 30+ years.
There is a decent hill right at the start of this race, so I made sure that I used my Stryd Power Meter for what it is designed for. I targetted 310w for the 1st 3km and then if I felt good I aimed to up it to 315km and then for the last 2km to give it all I had. So going up the first hill, I stuck to 310w and as a result, my pace fell to about 4:54/km, people were overtaking me everywhere, but I knew to stay patient and be confident in the plan.
As I came over the top of that first hill I was able to hold that same power level but my pace was now about 4:40/km for the next few km’s and I was able to start overtaking a few people that had passed me earlier. At about the 4km mark I felt confident enough to push the effort up to 315w and from 4km until about 7km I achieved a pace of about 4:35/km. Another big hill from 7km and again, I was overtaking more people and in control. The last 2 km was a blast, the 9km split was at 4:17/km and 322watts and the last km at 4:29 and 333 watts. Really enjoyed focussing on the next person in front of me and overtaking most of them.
So, all in all, I am thrilled to have beaten last years SunRun by 5 minutes; last year I was 72nd in my age group (better than 64% of runners), this year 48:59 mins and 38th in my age group (better than 75% of runners). I have not achieved my goal of reaching the top 10 and am far from perfect but that won’t stop me from continuing to strive.
With the help of RunnersConnect, I keep setting new PRs’ and feel that I still have so much more improvement left in me. This was quite a hilly course and I know that I can definitely go faster – so very much looking forward to my next race. Thanks again RunnersConnect, I know I couldn’t do this without you.
Marie Ostby ran the Gridiron 4 Miler and finished this race in the time of 34:51.
First attempt at pushing the pace in a short race, and managed a nice fast finish (average 8:43, last mile 8:19). And great to warm up and cool down with Bjorg and another friend!
Things I’d change: be patient with crowding in the beginning to run tangents better, and leave a little more rest time after the warmup (only had 5 min or so… BUT it was cold so maybe it was a good thing).
Vincent Hardy ran the San Francisco Kaiser Permanente Half Marathon and finished in 1:25:43. This was a PR by 1 minute 30 seconds!
Perfect race conditions today! I PRed. I also thought I was going to break 1:25, but fell 45s short of that, which I did not realize until the finish line because I was on pace. Regardless, I am super happy, in particular because applying the race plan helped a lot and my last mile was faster, which is a fantastic way to run (I used to run an even pace and really suffer in the last miles). Thanks coaches for helping me improve! (and Anne, she also PRed)
Bill Keefe ran the IRIS Run for the Refugees 5k and completed this race event in the time of 22:00, which was a PR by 53 seconds!
I started training with RC in June, a month after a 5k benchmark run of 26:32. I knew that wasn’t a clean time, it had been a long time since I had trained and I was a bit overweight, but to take that to 22:00 in eight months…I’m really happy right now. In mid-summer I set a goal of 22:40 for this year, and I counted on this race on being the one to do that. I ran a 22:53 in December and worked hard to be ready for today. So, I’m just overjoyed! Today. Now I have to re-set goals and shoot for the next one. My thanks to RC, the coaches, and other runners for their plans, their advice and all the support. We wouldn’t be talking about this without all of you!
Laurie Householder ran the Critz Tybee Island Half Marathon with a finishing time of 1:34:50, which was a PR by 1:16.
My goal for this race was to see if I could hold a sub ~7:10 pace. My last half was over a year ago at a 7:20 pace so I felt like this was a tough, but doable challenge. From the very first mile, I noticed that the course was going to measure long, despite that first mile being straight! Tangents were not the issue and all the other runners noticed the same thing. A few girls surged ahead, but one girl hung right around my pace so I made it my mission to try to stay ahead of her. I was successful in that mission until I missed a turn around mile 9. She finished about 10 seconds ahead of me, but was just so pleasant to chat with, that I couldn’t be upset for her success. The wind, at 17mph, was a big challenge in this race with big long stretches going into a headwind the entire way. So, while my official time reflects a 7:15 pace, my actual pace over the long course of 13.3 miles was 7:08. Mission accomplished! A great confidence booster going into my next marathon! Finished 5th female overall and won a prize for 1st place Masters female!
Jim Paterson ran the Sarasota Music Half Marathon and finished in a time of 2:02:11.
Was hoping to PR here and possibly break 2 hours in process but alas fell short. 2:02 is my best half marathon time since November 2016 so I was happy with that. Weather was excellent and course was filled with 26 musicians at various points which made for a great running morning.
Pedro Marques ran the Winterrun Oslo 10k and finished with a time of 58:26.
Very far from my 10k record (10 min away actually) this was more a fun run than a race. Running in -11C, few space to run, and ice on the road during the whole course this was more to enjoy running with other fellow runners and basically to enjoy the course. I’m happy because Im keeping myself active during the winter, which was one of my main goals!
