Nikolina Kuharić ran the Cu 10k and finished this distance in the time of 1:10:00, which was a PR!
My first race. It was hard.
Mary Shepherd ran the Mesa Marathon and finished with a time of 6:28:21.
This race started well. The first 4 miles are downhill and, although, “”fast””, my HR stayed in zone 3 where I expected it. I ran with Tawni for about the first 8 miles. Miles 5 and 0.6 of mile 6 is a very steady (2% grade) uphill. We took it easy and paces were as expected. It is downhill for the next several miles, some 2%-ish, some less so. We allowed the hill to help with our pace and it was where, at least, I expected it to be until mile 8. About mile 8 I had to stop at a port-a-potty. Tawni ran on. But after that I could feel the muscles saying where is our fuel? And the reason I think it was fuel is that my HR decreased as my pace decreased no matter what my legs felt like. I had carb loaded as I had for my very successful 20 miler 3 weeks ago, rested well yesterday and the day before, slept reasonably well both nights, but it was as though I was glycogen depleted again, just not as bad as last year. I changed intervals to 30/20 about mile 11 for a while (several miles) then to 20/20 and added some additional walking, sometimes doing 20/40. And as far as nutrition this morning and during the run, it was essentially the same as I did for the 20 miler. I was hoping for at least 20 good miles, and I got about 8. I walked all of mile 26, a bit faster than I had been walking. I have redeemed my DNF from last year.
David Brown ran the Spring Tuneup 10k with a finishing time of 56:05.
A steady run. Reasonably consistent pace. PB for 10km is 53:54 in September 2025. Conditions were quite warm but felt ok.
Siuberto Socarras ran the A1A Fort Lauderdale Half Marathon and finished this race in the time of 2:42:00.
I did better than last year by 3 minutes. For the first time used a 3 minute run, 30 second walk ratio due to inability to complete the training program adequately in the weeks leading up to the race. The walk run ratio made the race more enjoyable.
Joslyne Counselman ran the Mesa Half Marathon and completed this race event in the time of 2:14:38.
I tried to manage a slower pace to start with hopes to ramp it up in miles 4-6 which felt good, but then as I tried to pick it up, I realized I was already tapped out and not able to go faster. Then around miles 8-9, I was regretting not going to the bathroom again before going to the start line. I went about 1 hour before the start of the race. Anyway, at mile 10, I had no choice but to use the portopotty. But I felt much better and even though I took it easy the last 3 miles, they were a comfortable, challenging last 3 miles of the race. I’m happy with my time and kicked it to the finish line to get under 2:15.
