Team RunnersConnect has an incredible weekend with 9 PRs and several Age Group Awards leading the way

El Jones ran the RunFor Pie 5k and finished this distance in the time of 0:22:29.

Bruno Guardia ran the Seattle Half Marathon and finished with a time of 2:14:47. This was a personal record by 0:4:15.

Happy to beat my time from the previous Half, as my injury slowed my training almost to zero, for which I reduced the target from full to half marathon. But far from getting back into competitive shape; that being said, completing within the expected time, with no injury, keeping the streak of finishing all races that I start.

Tony Malinauskas ran the Knoxville Turkey Trot 10k and finished this distance in the time of 0:49:45.

Although The day before the race I moved a bunch of furniture to my new home till I was dog tired, my time was just 0:05 slower than my PB last year, and I won Senior Grand Master Champion!

Anna Smith ran the Venice Marathon with a finishing time of 6:08:58.

Very hot and exposed course. Not enough water. Did not cope with the heat as I had been training in cooler temperatures.

Bob Marcum ran the Naples Turkey Trot 5K and finished in a time of 0:25:41. This was a PR by 12 seconds!

The day started out perfect–weather was ideal–no wind–flat course–my warm up was going great. The race started—I did see one guy I knew to be right around my pace, he was ahead of me and in a tight group–I was also in a tight group, as the race progressed I lost him. So I just picked up on a feel good pace and ran with those around me. There were 5000 runners so no shortage of runners to pace with. A couple of runners went with me–so that helped–then I picked it up close to where I thought mile 3 was—it wasn’t!! I knew the race finished after a turn–I did see runners turning quite a ways ahead, so I stayed at current pace and kicked it when I thought I could handle a fast finish. As I approached the finish I could see the clock–I could not believe that I had a chance for another PR. I ran it out like a stride–love them in training– I did finish with a PR at 25:41 and a 1st place in my 70-74 AG out of 41 other guys. The PR was 12 seconds faster than my Halloween race last month. Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Good luck to other RC racers!!

Jaron Brown ran the Atlanta Thanksgiving Day Half Marathon and finished in 1:34:45.

This race is a tradition for me. I’ve run it every year the past five years. I didn’t set a PR today, but I did set a course PR by nearly five minutes. I left a decent amount in the tank, so I think I could have gone for a PR. Nonetheless, it was a great race, as I executed my 1:35 plan nearly flawlessly with great discipline.

Laina Brock ran the Turkey Trot 10k and finished with a time of 0:53:44. This was a personal record by 5 minutes!

This race was special because nothing went the way I was anticipating. The first mile time of 8:27 shocked me…I don’t run 8s…. who’s legs are these!?! But then the second mile was just as fast. I decided to hold on and see how long I could keep this pace. But the miles kept coming in around that same time! The flat course definitely helped. Since this was a tiny race the 10k was simply two laps of the 5k route, but I ended up really liking that because I got to see my family at the half way point, which kept my motivation going! The second lap was a bit harder!

I was able to pass my husband, who was walking the 5k, at about a half mile to the finish. That helped me soar in to the finish line! So ultimately, I’m shocked! I didn’t know I could run this fast for 6 miles straight! What an amazing start to he holiday season ?

Michael Carr ran the NJ Championships 8k, finishing this distance in the time of 0:38:18.

I raced on a sore left quad and was slower than I had hoped/planned for. I did get 3rd in my age group and won a nice technical shirt. I was two and half minutes faster than last year and my chip time PLP was my 3rd highest ever. I did OK with a bad leg but am disappointed. Looking forward to a 5K on New Year’s day.

Todd Morimoto ran the California International Marathon (10k) with a finishing time of 0:43:00.

As I was coming back from strained muscles, felt good to feel the wind blow through my hair. I was happy with endurance at mile 4-6, as I was passing runners. I felt good. It was rough start with getting bumped three times. Managed to fix form mid-race, as warmed up. I was 12-14 seconds faster than last year — about 2s per mile faster.

Tony Lahnston ran a 5k race and finished this distance in the time of 0:19:09.

I was pretty happy with my results today especially after having not raced for 10 months and fighting fatigue for so long. I felt like I ran strong throughout most of the race although I tailed off a little bit on mile 2.

I messed up my watch with the splits at the beginning but felt like I started strong and finished strong. I passed 4 high school kids near the end and came in second. That feels pretty good at 55 years old!! Next target is to get in the 18’s again.

Chantal Hart ran the Run Turkey Run 5k and finished this race in the time of 0:22:14.

What a great race this morning! My husband and I participated in our first turkey trot together, and my only goal was to run sub 8:00 splits the entire race. It was a small pool of runners (451 total) and the course was run entirely on a wooded trail. The start of the path was very narrow and made weaving around people a little tricky the first half mile or so but then it started to thin out. I decided just to push it as hard and fast as I could for 3.1 miles and see what I was capable of. The start was definitely cold and windy and my legs felt pretty heavy, but there was a huge downhill in the first mile which really let me pick up speed. The course was an out and back, so once I hit the 1 mile mark I started to see the leaders making their way back. By the time I hit the halfway point my goal was just to pass as many people as I could. I passed a few people going back up the hill but it really winded me. Thankfully, by that point we were pretty close to the third mile marker, and once we hit that I could see the finish in the distance and just ran as hard as I could. The official race results said I ran a 22:14 with a 7:17 average pace, which is only 1 second slower per mile than my best 5k in 2017. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised when I collected my results and learned I had placed 2nd in my age group! It was a really hard run, but totally worth it to test my limits and place in my AG! Happy Thanksgiving, all!

Katie Busby ran the QQQInvesco Thanksgiving Half Marathon with a finishing time of 3:21:53.

Beautiful day. So thankful that I am able to run and thankful I completed this race. I finished strong and given my scheduling challenges with training I was pleased with the day.

Jennifer Thomas ran the Fall Backyard Burn (Fountainhead) 10 mile and completed this race event in the time of 1:57:21.

This was a hilly slog and I have barely been training. The run itself was lovely and I felt much faster than I actually ran. Fortunately my age cohort was also slower than normal. Got fourth in AG and third in the whole 4-race series. Now it is time to get back to running more regularly!

Ryan Anklam ran the San Jose Turkey Trot 10k and completed this distance in the time of 0:40:41. This was a new personal record by 2 minutes!

I’m a bit disappointed with this race, I was never quite on track for a sub 40 which was my goal. There was a bit of traffic the first mile but I still passed the first mile marker at 6:30 flat. The second mile came at exactly 13:00, however the next two miles I tucked in behind a group that I thought was keeping pace but turned out being a bit slow. I pushed pretty hard from 4.5 – 5 to make up time and kept that pace to the finish. I think I could have pushed a bit harder earlier in the race and hit my goal. Lesson learned for next time.

Trey Brush ran the Atlanta Half Marathon and finished this race in the time of 1:32:31.

Really excited about where I landed with this race today. I had in my mind a BHAG of 1:33. Last year I was 1:33:32. I decided to make sure and keep it smart the first few miles. The biggest concern I had was the wind. It was pretty windy for most of the race.

I decided right after the start as I settled in and found myself behind the 1:35 pace group just to settle in behind them for a while. I stayed with them for a long time and it made it pretty easy mentally. However, once I hit mile 9 I hit a nice downhill stretch and decided to cut is loose some. I went ahead and left the group and decided to just go for the final 4 miles. (It is a very hilly course. The first 5 miles lull you to sleep but the final 8 miles are tough.)

As I left the group, I felt really good. I had messed up my watch at the start so even as I crossed the finish line I still did not pay attention to the clock. It was later I took a look and was quite surprised by the time, I would end up a minute faster than last year. With 6 weeks left before the marathon it is a nice boost to the confidence to run a solid half marathon time.

It is not an official PR but it is the fastest half for me since back surgery in 2016 and the fastest half marathon since 2011! I will take it!

Susan Spencer ran the Whitin Five Mile Race with a finishing time of 0:39:40.

This is one of the races where I can walk to the start from my house. It’s a tradition I’ve done for most of the last 30 years. I was glad to see I ran 1-4 seconds faster than last year (there is only chip timing at the end, so that’s based on my Garmin time). And since I turned 60 last month, I won first in age group and scored $50. Getting older has been lucrative so far ;-).

Bill Keefe ran the Manchester Road Race 5 mile and finished in a time of 0:36:43, which was a PR by 5 seconds!

4.75 miles. PR by about 5 secs. Not a really strong outing but finished pretty well. Struggled early with a long, steep hill and hit a pretty good stride about mile 3. Happy to run pain free.

Kevin Dollard ran the Troy Turkey Trot 5k, finishing this distance in the time of 0:20:09.

5K tune up race. Pleased with it and was 1st (in 60-64) of 75. Was looking for about 10 seconds faster but winds hurt us. All in all very pleased where I am with a little over 2 weeks till goal 8K XC Clubs National Champions.

Sandra Keller ran the Run The Bluegrass Half Marathon (5k) and finished with a time of 0:28:39, which was a PR by 40 seconds!

This race was special because I never thought I could run a 5k under 29:00 minutes and RC helped me believe I could be faster and also made it happen. Now I’m thinking I can push this another notch with a goal of under 28:00 for 2020!.

Liz Lawson ran the Donahue’s Turkey Trot 5k and finished in a time of 0:23:16.

Great event in the community! My family cheered me on in a few different spots. Great weather. Not a pr, but close to it.

Francesca Fuller ran the Jingle All The Way 5k and completed this race event in the time of 0:25:26. This was a personal record by 33 seconds!

Officially PR’ed every race distance in 2019!! After starting the year at my lowest and for first time ever having gotten worse at running after injury. I stuck with my coached plan and remained positive and bubbly on the outside. If you asked me in March after my half or June’s 5k where I ran paces I was running 5 years ago if I’d be posting I PR’ed I wouldn’t believe it. One thing I’ll never do tho is quit and figured would take a while but would claw my way back and happened sooner than expected which was thanks to all my amazing running friends!! Hoping 2020 is just as good with many more running friendships! 5k, 8k, 10k, half and full PR’s are in the 2019 book!

Susan Spencer ran the Andrea Holden 5K and finished this race in the time of 0:24:27.

Another Thanksgiving classic and Part 2 of my weekend double header. Placed first in age group and got $25 gift certificate to Marathon Sports. Ran negative splits! Not so hard since there was a strong headwind in the first mile. But my time here was slower than it’s been in several years and I don’t know if that’s age or just this day. At least I’m still averaging under 8s.

Lance Anderson ran the Turkey Trol 10k and completed this race event in the time of 43:13:00.

Tested left calf. No problems.

Jonathan Bogaard ran the Northshore Turkey Trot 10k and finished this distance in the time of 0:50:04.

Still recovering my hamstring strain so I’m very happy with this race. I hit my goals of executing the race plan and coming in at about 50 flat. I feel I did a pretty good job pacing my self trying to hit the splits I was going for. I had a negative split (25:09 for first 5k and then 24:55 for the second 5k). I also ran a very good line (or the course was a little short) and I’m happy with that.

Nicola Tortora ran the Via Larga Fog Trophy 12k with a finishing time of 0:51:00.

12 km race from the famous ? bologna fog trophy circuit! I was not in the mood to do a race and a particular effort, so I thought I run it slow but at the end I kept the same average pace than last week 10 km race … so I believe it is still sign of improvement! That is what matters! Next race in 2 weeks and it will be a HM and last race for the fog throphy circuit!

Rajeev Jorapur ran the Pune International Half Marathon and finished with a time of 2:33:04.

I started the race at a comfortable pace of 7:20 and gradually increased it to 7:00 by 10 km mark. Between 10 and 18 km, it increased to 6:45. However, the last 3 km, it slowed down back to 7:20. I felt drained of energy, and there was a slight feeling of cramps in my left calf. I did not take any energy gels or bananas in the race. Had only water.

Ted Nourie ran the Seattle Ghost Marathon and finished in a time of 3:45:24.

It was my first marathon race in 8 years. I missed a lot of the speed work during my training because of injury and was not feeling too comfortable with my goal but I readjusted the week before and hit my new goal mark! I have been training for this race for almost 9 months and with the multiple injury setbacks I worked hard to not give up which is what I had been doing the last few years. During the race, I had a lot of pain in my right hamstring and calf the last 10 miles and thought I would end up over 4 hours but had a lot of support from other runners who pulled me along. Really awesome experience and a really small field of about 89 runners. Very happy with the outcome!

Parag Deshpande ran the Clontarf Half Marathon and finished this race event in the time of 2:29:00.

Was happy and sad. Happy about completing it and sad that did not run for 2 months.

Christopher Houser ran the Seattle Marathon and finished with a time of 2:56:53, which was a PR by 0:02:12.

Pretty good on a hilly course!

John Markianos-Daniolos ran a 70k Ultra race and finished in a time of 7:42:54.

It is my largest distance so far. It rained between 18km-29km and between 44km-50km. I came 7th within 25 male runners (8th overall in 27 runners).

Juan Monedero ran the Valencia Marathon and completed this race event in the time of 4:22:00. This was a new personal record by 20 minutes!

4h 22min, at 6:10 min/km. This is 20 min better than the same race last year, so a great improvement! However I think that I coould have done better.

The first 26km were good. I kept the planned 5:50 for the first km and 5:45 onwards. I was planning to keep that pace till the end. However, my HR was higher than expected. I found myself on 147-151, really too high…

Then, from 26km I wasn´t able to keep the pace, my HR was rising clearly above 150. So I had to slow down progressively. Reaching 33k things started to get real tough, but I was able to keep 6:15 to 6:25. Then from 36 to 42 was terribly difficult, except the last km were I was able to speed up a little bit.

I think the main error was not realising that for whatever reason my body was not at its best, and I should have slowed down from the beginning, keeping a HR of 140-145. Lesson learned for next time! However, I am very happy to have improved in 20min from last year!!

Song Koh ran the Space Coast Marathon with a finishing time of 4:29:49.

I started behind the 3:55 pace group, expecting 9:00 pace. They kept a faster pace than that. In retrospect, I should have started with the 4:00 pace group. It felt pretty good until about 15 miles. I was focusing on my pace well, was carrying my own water and gels and everything was going very consistently. As expected I had to expend more effort to keep up. But at mile 15, I decided to get water at a water stop. I think this broke my concentration. This, in conjunction with faster pace, I hit the wall.

Kai Ng ran the Jurasic Coast Trail Marathon 50k and finished with a time of 7:05:00.

7 hr 05 minutes, 23rd place (of about 100 finishers plus 25 dnf). 55k and 2400m acent. 8 Deg C with 20 mph gusting 30 mph wind. Executed well. I’ve not done this much (distance and elevation combined) before, and hit the wall in the last trail marathon the month before; so I was very conscious about making sure I did all the right things from the start. I kept my pace steady; using perceived effort (and rate of breathing) as a guide. There were plenty of very steep up hills. I walked most of them; focusing on straight and level back, bending from the ankles. This helped to avoid slipping too because my weight was firmly on my heels or large area of the foot, as opposed to just on the toes. I also took the opportunity to take energy and water going up the hills too. There was a section of a ploughed farmers field of mud. After all the rain of previous days, it was more like clay and it really stuck me down.

Overall I happy with this run. I was tired and hungry afterwards, but didn’t get DOMS the days afters; only minor muscle fatigue. It makes me think that I could have pushed a little harder. But considering this was my first combined distance and ascent; I made the right choices. The last 10k was a repeat of the first 10k (which involed 2 killer hills) and my spits was identical! As with most trails, the environment was lovely. This all made for a happy trail run!
