Sal Adamo ran a 15k Race and finished this distance in the time of 1:08:43.
The course was poorly marked so I accidentally made a wrong turn and cut ~1 mile off the distance. The race was not that well run. There were hardly any runners or water stations and for almost all of it, I was running by myself. The course was a lot hillier than what I was anticipating. Elevation gain was 367′. The course was described as fast but I would say that there were rolling hills and some of them were steep.
The course had heavy tree cover so not sure if my watch was working all that well. I felt that I was running faster than what my time was. I would have guess sub 8:00/mile. The weather was good and the course felt cool due to tree cover – foggy and low to mid 60’s w/ high humidity.
David Brown ran the Victor Harbour Half Marathon and finished with a time of 2:05:19.
Had a good steady pace. Could not increase my pace enough in the last 5km. Overall happy with the run.
Emilio Lenart ran the Sugar Land Santa 5K&10K (10k) and completed this race event in the time of 43:34.
Tune up race. Excellent race, boosting motivation!
Mike Bromberek ran the CIM Marathon and finished this race in the time of 3:23:15.
Was a difficult first half of the year due to a re-occuring injury and getting sick multiple times. Was happy was able to get through the training healthy and run the race well.
Ended up starting the race around the 3 hour 40 minute pacer so much of the race I would have people around me going similar paces but often did not last and I would get ahead of them. When I caught up to the 3 hour 30 minute and 3 hour 25 minute pacers had to navigate around bigger groups for them. I do not think that affected me too much but a little bit. Starting with a slower group did I think make me a little slower in mile 1 but after that did better with getting my pace goals.
I think fueling went well during the race. I was mentally focused throughout the race allowing me to push to try and speed up even if I was not really able to later in the race. Wrote the times to use gels and salt tablets on arm night before the race which helped me keep track of what to use and when, I felt silly having that on my wrist but need to do it in the future to take one thing off my mind. Stomach felt good the entire time and I never felt bad taking a gel or anything.
Left calf felt some discomfort once in a while during like miles 2 and 3 but felt good the rest of the run. Was feeling tired around mile 14 or 15 but not too bad where I think that was probably mostly normal in a race. Miles 20 and 21 I slowed down but I think those might have had some bigger inclines but not sure. Definitely was slowing down a lot from mile 22 on. Tried to speed up at times but legs did not have the energy to really get going much faster and sustain it.
Right arm and right shoulder were good the entire race. I think bottom of feet were a little discomfort later in the race but nothing much, feet definitely felt better during this race than during Philadelphia Marathon last year or Lincoln Half last April.
I feel like I put everything I had into the race which makes me happy I was able to do that.
Ed Nickel ran the California International Marathon with a finishing time of 3:36:18. This was a personal record by 4:31.
Surprisingly, it was a good day. The weather was pretty much ideal for a marathon (mid-40s and cloudy) but the long wait at the start was uncomfortable.
Once the race started I was feeling ok, but pacing was a little difficult. The race is net downhill, however, I read multiple places that the first 8-10 miles were rolling hills and not to underestimate the climbs. Because of that I was pulling back on every downhill, but it turns out that living in Colorado means that the climbs were basically nothing compared to my daily run in my neighborhood.
Around mile 4-5 I started having significant pain in my right ankle. Luckily, the pain let up enough for me to continue and eventually turned into an occasional flash of pain, but nothing unbearable.
In the second half of the race, I was feeling very good and did not even feel any distress in my legs until mile 21-22. With 10 miles to go I felt strong enough to pick up the pace and then finished very well. I do wonder if I left a little time on the course early since I felt so good at the end, or if I felt good because I took it so easy at the start.
Overall, it was a very good day in ideal conditions, and you can never be upset with a new PR!
