7 PRs and several Age Group Awards highlight the weekend for Team RunnersConnect

Martin Morrison ran the Dublin Rock and Roll Half Marathon and finished with a time of 1:45:15.

I was 1 min away from my PB not sure why… it was a bit hilly and I was looking at my watch regarding Pace too much. Enjoyed it though and its a good indicator on how my training is going for the full marathon in October.

Joel Turkel ran the Rockport Triple Threat 5k and finished this distance in the time of 20:25, which was a PR!

First off the most important race of the day: My 5 year old twins rocked their first 1 mile race! I’m so proud of them! Now onto the 5K: I’ve raced a couple of half marathons but this was my first 5K. It was really fun to turn on the speed but also exhausting on a course that had some good sized hills. I didn’t realize it until several hours later but I actually placed 3rd in my age group. That was definitely unexpected!

Now it’s time to take a few days off and then start training for the Philly marathon!

Brandi Moody ran the 4 Mile Classic, Batesville and finished with a time of 32:35, which was a PR!

The 4 mile classic was a new race for me. The route is very tough. It starts on a down hill and ends on a downhill, but the in between miles are all up hill and taxing. Since this was my first 4 mile race, I guess I set a PR! My average for this race was faster than my average for my last 5k in May! I will take it!

Marty Baker ran the Summer Sizzler 10K and finished in a time of 1:20:42.

I’m just getting back to training seriously. The 1:20:42 by far is not my best 10K. However, this race marks the start of a fitness journey that I look forward to sharing with my RC friends. Go RC Team!

Heather Joe ran the Race to the Lake 10 Miles and finished with a time of 2:56:04.

This was a training run to learn trail racing on an extremely difficult course so I didn’t really race this. I just wanted to test my limits on elevation and heat and finish.

Race to the Lake- 2000+ elevation gain in Alabama summer temps of high 80s up to 92 degrees. Hardest trail race I have ever done. I and just about everyone else did a lot of hiking. Wasn’t sure I could finish something so constantly steep so I took it very slow to make sure I finished. The first mile and a half was a steep constant incline up the mountain with constant smaller but big ones following.

Prepped well with hydration and fuel this time and even though I was gasping for air on some of the climbs and my legs were screaming at me I felt really good. I Am a baby in the trail world so I am taking baby steps right now. But the fact I am starting to be able to pass others and I was way short of the cutoff I feel ok. I have so far to go. But I am improving with every race because I am choosing the challenging ones and pulling through it!!! After Chicago I hope to really tackle trails with all I have!!! Great race.

Kristin Morales ran the Arroyo Creek 10k and finished the race event in the time of 52:19.

1st in my age group, 6th overall female. I run so much better in the evening, early morning is not my thing. This race was at 7:15 am.

Jane Bosio ran the CTR Crystal Springs Half Marathon and finished in a time of approximately 3:00, which was a PR!

My race was great until approx 2.5 miles from the end. The RD posted results today, and the break in times shows around a 30 min pause. My race would have been about 2.5 hrs i’d guess without that stop. 1st place in my AG, 6th place woman overall. 105 total racers. The course was very beautiful and challenging, 4+miles of switchback climb on the way out, lots of rocks and roots, tech singletrack.

Rosie Kyes ran the Bridge and Back 10k with a finishing time of 51:34. This was a personal record by 0.83.

Back on January 1st, 2016. I ran a flat course at 52.17. A few days ago I ran a 10k but was much harder/ hills. I think I would have done much better if I stayed at pace. I ran the first 5k a little to fast and kind off died at the end. I’m still happy with my time.

Tony Malinauskas ran the Spartan Super, Ashville and finished this race in the time of 4:43:39.

This 9.2 mile obstacle course race was filmed by NBC Sports, and although I only came in 11th out of 59 in my age group (Open Division), I finished about 5 minutes faster than RANDY MOSS of NFL fame who also ran in my wave! Goes to show what sport-specific training will do for you; I’m used to running up and down hills for obstacle course races, but his legs were cramping when I passed him around mile 8. The course was a brutal one — it featured a continuous 2.5 mile slope up a mountain, meant to demoralize you.

David Young ran the Delaware Dash 4 Mile Trail Run and finished with a time of 38:34.

Found this local 4 mile trail race at the last minute and decided to run it in lieu of the easy 4 miles that was scheduled for Saturday. This was only the second trail race I’ve ever run so I didn’t have very high expectations. Sometimes not having high expectations is a good thing as I finished 2nd overall and 1st in my age group.

In all actuality, my performance was really a solid top ten but the lead group or runners took a wrong turn due to a poorly marked trail with .3 miles left in the race. Myself and the runner who finished first navigated the course correctly and crossed the line 1 & 2. I guess it goes to show that the top spots don’t always go to the fastest runners in trail racing but sometimes go to the ones who manage to navigate the course correctly. All in all a good day out!

Jared Spencer ran the Bella Rose Strides 5K, finishing this distance in the time of 18:12. This was a PR by 7 seconds!

This was my second 5k race and excited to report I finished 4th overall and 1st in my age group! The 3 kids who beat me were all under 27 years of age. Not bad for a 47 year old novice. I won my age group (45-49) by over 13 minutes.

Was thinking a sub 18:00 effort was possible based on my training, but the very difficult weather conditions did not provide a favorable set of circumstances for that to happen. The temperature was 75 degrees with a dew point of 75. This was a cross country course rather than a road 5K. The course was entirely grass and crushed gravel. This added to the challenging conditions. Thanks Runnersconnect for my second straight 5K personal record!!!!

Shawn Stewart ran the Bad Ass Half Marathon and finished with a time of 2:10.

This is billed as the “hottest, hilliest half in Texas” and it exceeded it’s billing. I was trying to get under 2 hours but I just didn’t have the gas in the tank after 6 miles of hills from mile 2-8. I came out this race thinking I need to re-assess my pre-race fueling as well as what I take during the race. Toast / peanut butter bf the race and Gu every 6 miles has been my go to fuels in addition to Gatorade every 2 miles.

Kah Im Goh ran the Standard Chartered KL Marathon with a finishing time of 05:15:18. This was a massive personal record by 00:58:00.

This is my second marathon and the reason for running is to accompany my running buddy. My first marathon was 5 years ago to achieve my goal of running one marathon in my life time. For this second marathon, I decided to join Runners Connect as I had used Jeff’s programme in Runkeeper before for half marathon and I found it to be very good. I am happy for the 58 minutes improvement using a much easier training programme and I am 5 years older!

Thanks, Runners Connect.

Marilin Sulg ran the Saadjärve, Estonia and finished this race event in the time of 01:16.22.

The race was 16,9 km round a lake. There was a misunderstanding with the competition date. So I was prepared and drove 200 km-s one day to early. With not OK stomach and inner self-accusation about the mess that I had caused to our family plans I went to the start. I planned to run the 1st km not faster than 4:35, second km not faster than 4:30 and to keep the average pace around 4:25. The reality was so that I held myself back in the first km-s, and average pace by 9th km was about 4:24, the feeling was good, but all of a sudden I got stomach cramps on the right upper stomach. It got very disturbing on breathing and I had to slow down the tempo to more than 5:00 pace. I tried to keep the tempo not too slow and hoped that it goes away. After about 2km-s I felt that it started to get better, I took a double-espresso gel and could start putting more effort again. I felt that I was quite recovered and could go fast again, but there were some ascendants in the second part of the run and the average tempo stayed around 4:32. The final result was 16,9 km time 01:16:22, average pace 04:32. I was happy that I managed it, but I think the result should have been at least a minute or 2 better. Considering everything that happened, the result was not that bad, but I felt that I did not realize myself.

Lorena Trevino ran The San Francisco Marathon and finished in a time of 4:12:58. This was a massive personal record by 35 minutes!

This is a very special race for me since I love this city, it was my second Marathon in my life, and again, I chose San Francisco. This time I felt so much better prepared, stronger, with a better nutrition plan as well as a recovery one. This time my two kids came with us (husband and I) and let’s say I wish I had had more time to rest prior to race day! Started 2 waves later at 6:00 am. Anyway I got to the start line really excited. I felt so good the first half, even up until Km 35 I was feeling great, but then I hit my wall at Km 37, just 5 Kms before finish line, I was feeling so tired, one of the reasons is because since we crossed the beautiful Golden Gate, tennis and socks were soaked wet because of the fog, so I never felt my toes again until I was able to take off my tennis shoes and socks more than two hours later. It was challenging to run with frozen/numb toes. I was ahead of the 4:00 pacer for a bit, then I caught up with the 4:10 pacer and I passed him a couple of times, but by Km 40 I just wanted to stop, so there was no way I could find the power to do a stride or sprint in the last two kilometers or so, I just managed to finish it! I never stopped. I was hydrated all the way, and with my gels. My one and only stop was by mile 19 when I saw my kids and husband and stopped for a quick energetic hug. I am so glad I finished it, I am really satisfied with my results!! I loved my RC training!
