Vanda Doyle ran the Old Wethersfield 5k and finished with a time of 27:26.
I put this tune-up 5k into my HM training to inject some fun and make good on a solid 6 weeks of build up. First 5k race in over 18 months so it was about getting back out there and practicing race techniques and goals. Unfortunately a painful lower calf injury cropped up the day before. Taping and resting had results overnight and since it was a flat course I ran it with modified expectations in the last mile. Able to hit race plan successfully in each mile mostly by feel and with general comfort. First time racing with pain on my mind but it served to narrow the focus, stopped me from over-striding at the end and kept further injury to a minimum. It’s a pretty race in a very old town and I really enjoyed the run.
Kelly Spurlock Sink ran the Save a Stray 5k and finished this distance in the time of 19:48, which was a PR!
My goal for this race was to run a sub-20 minute 5k. I have been injured lately, so I have been doing a lot of cross training, but in a 10k race earlier on August 4. I was able to meet my goal of 7 minute miles with gas in the tank at the end, so I’ll put in the speed work and training based on the workouts and principles I learned from RC coaches and see what I can do. Not only did I meet my goal of a sub-20 5k, I also won the race! I have never in my life taken first place overall female in a race. To do so for the first time at the age of 42 is particularly gratifying. So I do feel that I owe RC a big thank you both for a new level of fitness and for all of the things I’ve learned.
David Gehr ran the Bridge to Bridge 12k San Francisco and finished in a time of 0:58:00, which was a PR!
Being from San Francisco now living in the East Bay it was nice to run in the area I grew up in also this was a benefit run for Special Olympics.
Dan McCaughan ran a 10k race and finished with a time of 0:42:30.
Felt a slight tweek in the left hamstring hoping its not a persistent issue. Feeling ok about my 10k. Ran a time trial on my own due to family reunion that was not initially part of my training schedule.
Frode Nortvedt ran the Reykjavik Marathon 25k and finished this race in the time of 1:42:00.
Iceland is a nice place, 3rd visit Amazing food, scenery and people. The route was not too steep, 67 m elevation gain in 21k is not bad! Nice weather, some sun but pleasantly cool 12 degrees Celsius. I have been recovering from a muscle injury and during the race I felt it so I decided to stay safe and stop at 21k.
Steve Mitchell ran the NH10 miler and completed this distance in the time of 1:18:04. This was a personal record by 5 minutes!
Had a good race. Average pace was 7:44/mi. Splits were: 7:28, 7:39, 7:24, 7:44, 7:58, 7:41, 7:26, 8:01, 8:17, 7:47…..I tried to start fast and get a little bit out of my comfort zone. The course is very hilly and miles 8/9 I was hurting…it took some mental negotiation with myself to push past it to try to finish the last mile sub 8 (which is mostly a downhill finish). I think maybe I need some more work learning how to run on dead legs and pushing through it. On a positive note- I ran downhill much better than usual and beat last years time by 5min.
Bruno Guardia ran the Seattle Marathon Summer 5k, finishing this distance in the time of 0:24:28.
First 5k in 4 years, not my best but close to target, expected to get in minute 23.
Kjartan Bragi Bjarnason ran the Reykjavík Marathon with a finishing time of 03:24:51, which was a PR!
What a race for me. I am over the moon. I started slowly because of the crowd but after a km I was already on a fine run. The first 21k was excellent, I was feeling great and was enjoying the run and the atmosphere. Had plans with gel and drank a little on almost every station. After 21k I went a little bit faster, going for 4:40. It was going fine and I was passing a lot of people. I saw my watch was close to dying so I asked a man what time he was going for. 3:25 was his answer and I knew I was running strong. I went pass him in the next drink stop. At 27-30 it became very difficult for me, I had a banana but my legs were tired. I saw my time dropping and the man had got me again. I was now or never, I greeted him and told him I was going to hang myself on his back 🙂 So that is what I did, he pulled me for the rest of race, I was so happy that I could follow him because my mind wanted to go under 3:30. So in the last 4k I got a little cramp but I just stopped thinking about it and gave everything in the end. My plan was to go sub 3:30, I knew it would be difficult but I am sooooo happy that I was able to do it. YESSSSS!!!!!!
Kevin Dollard ran the USATF Masters 1 Mile Road National Championships and finished with a time of 5:39.
This was a goal race. We were very happy to finish second in the nation behind extremely strong Atlanta team who is undefeated this year. I finished first for our 60+ squad SHORE AC. We’ve run this race three years in a row and I ran one second slower than two years ago and 8 seconds faster than last year. Very pleased especially having pulled up before the 5K race last weekend in Atlanta on my warm-up! No issues at all last night!
Jo Bourke ran the La Montheysanne 10k, finishing this distance in the time of 0:38:29.
This was a women only event to raise money for cancer support services. Quite a lot of gravel, some twists and turns, traffic and cobblestones. Pretty happy as it’s a harder course than the last time I ran a 10k (18 months ago) and my time was only 1 second slower than on that occasion. Very warm morning – around 30 Celsius. I came in third overall and second in my AG.
Laura Norton ran the Annapolis 10 Miler and finished in a time of 1:23:49.
A beautiful morning in Annapolis Maryland for a hilly 10 miler tune up race. I planned to stay close to marathon pace for the first 7 miles. I was a little fast, but with the hills, it was kind of hard to feel pace, so I tried to go by effort. At mile 7, I ran fast but controlled, up and over those hills. So fun to fly past people.
Todd Rose ran the York Rail Trail 10-Miler and finished this distance in the time of 1:15:36.
Was hoping to run a 1:12 to 1:13 which is what I’ve done the two previous years. Had perfectly beautiful weather, but ran a disappointing 1:15:36. Took 3rd in age group, which helps to take some of the sting out of the disappointing time. Still love this day though! Great local race that brings out the strong local running community.
Bill Keefe ran the Old Wethersfield 10k and finished this race in the time of 0:47:02. This was a PR by 3 minutes and 2 seconds!
First place in age division with a personal best of three minutes. Had planned to start at an 8 min mile pace but came in at 7:40 and felt good. Miles 3 – 5 were a really enjoyable run. Stayed near 7:30 and just felt good. Slowed in mile 6 but, again, I think it was more mental than physical. I don’t run many 10ks and was unsure how to handle the remaining 1.2 miles. Near the end, I picked the pace up again. I’m satisfied with the race but I did finish with something left in the tank. Pretty sure if I ran more of these, I’d open up earlier. Still, all in all, a good sign that I’m getting in shape.
Wally Bixby ran the Annapolis 10 miler with a finishing time of 1:10:41.
Just a tune up race. I was able to push through and run a good time despite not training for it specifically.
Michael Carr ran the USATF-NJ 5K XC and completed this race event in the time of 0:24:34.
Got 3rd in my age group in a NJ championship race, beat guys who usually beat me, out-kicked a younger guy at the end. Usually I’m dead at the end and grateful to finish. This time I found something left and used it all. A week ago I ran a flat 5K on a good surface and was 5 seconds slower than today, so today was a fine effort., a PLP of 72.9% Satisfied with the result. Feel like running some more.
Todd Morimoto ran the Santa Rosa Marathon and finished this race in the time of 2:52:44.
No pacer. Heat and humidity. Finished stronger than normal. Training made the difference when it got tough.
Kate Allred ran the Headington 5 Mile and completed this distance in the time of 0:32:09.
Won Ox County Championship- first half good, second half faded in the heat and should have gone a bit slower first half, but max points in the grand prix series, still leading, and first vet lady 45. PB last May at Didcot, cooler and slightly flatter, in 31min 18sec (second for my age group in GB this year).
Catherine Hayes ran the Frank Duffy 10 Mile and finished this race event in the time of 1:28:13.
The first few miles were fine and then it was just a huge effort (and the last mile was a tough climb). I ended up with an average pace of about 8:45 (marathon pace!) versus a targetted 8:15 max. I ran 6 miles on the Friday (not scheduled), also a 1.5 mile warm up, also it was warm and a hilly terrain in the Phoenix Park but even all of these points do not explain the poor result. The effort level was a good 9.
Denise Brembeck ran the CRIM 10 mile and finished with a time of 1:45:46.
Love this event. Spectator/cheering along the route makes it fun. I felt like i was flying out there. I passed a lot of people….just watching as I kept getting closer to runners and then doing a burst of speed to go around them and gain a little ground ahead of them. It was a ‘freeing’ experience, felt like I washed some of the grief I’ve been carrying the last several months – right out of my system.
Renee Devereaux ran the Goderich Triathlon 5k with a finishing time of 29:44 for the 5K, 1:53:19 for the triathlon.
Had some family drama and a bad sleep the night before the race. Definitely feeling off! But once things got started I had a good time. I’d given up on a PR for the triathlon as I wasn’t able to put the training in, but was optimistic about my run time as that’s what I’ve been focusing on for the past couple of months. Pace was better than last year but didn’t blow my mind. Overall it was a fun morning.
Alejandro Marusich ran the Mexico City Marathon and finished in a time of 4:18:43.
It is special because was my X (10th) maratón. I think the Marathon was not measured correctly. However I finished strong. A lot of pain at the end but happy for my performance.
Jason Sethi ran the Pikes Peak Ascent Half Marathon and finished with a time of 5:57:00. This was a new personal record by 18 minutes!
New PR. 13.32 mile trail run with 7815 feet of elevation gain ending feet at 14115 (run up a mountain).
Nichole Curtis ran the Santa Rosa Half Marathon and finished in a time of 2:12:05.
Santa rosa is one of my favorite races. I PR’d here 2 years ago while training for the Berlin Marathon. I wanted to return and get close to my PR time to celebrate my 100th half marathon this year.
My race day plan was to start with the 2:20 pacer and transition up to 2:15 pacer if I felt good. But after reading an RC article about relying too much on pacers, I decided to run based on how I felt (not my watch) and positioned myself between the two pacers at the start line so I could gauge where I was on the course based on if I passed either of the pacers or if one passed me.
The first several miles were great. I felt really at ease. I also knew that the later stages of the race might be tough from missing some of the endurance trainings. As expected, I started feeling fatigued but not until mile 9 and then again at 11. I refocused and remembered that a PR “”isn’t supposed to feel easy”” so I tried to push myself to the finish.
I ended up crossing the finish line right where I wanted to be and feeling amazing! While it wasn’t a true PR, it felt like it for me. My goal was to get back to the running paces that I felt best about, and I accomplished just that. The experience has been invaluable.
Gregg Fergot ran the Wausau Marathon and completed this race event in the time of 3:11.
1) Had a blast with my Family. Dad has Alzheimer’s so this was entire reason for race. “I wish I could see you run”, He had said.
2) I finished strong, heathy and with a big smile on my face.
3) Goal Time was 3:03…missed big with 3:11 Finish, mostly due to 97% Humidity at Start I’m guessing.
4) Finished 9th Overall of 154 and won my Age Group by 48 minutes over both second and third.
5) I executed exactly per plan through first 15-16 miles and then the heat started to bother my stomach, so I slowed and was able to recover to run the last 2 1/2 miles pretty strong.
6) This was my fastest Marathon in 16 years and is closing in on my PR of 3:09:00. It will Fall!
7) I raced really hard and smart and still didn’t hit my goal. That’s why I love this sport…it’s very rare when it all comes together just right and then it’s extra special!
8) Thank You All for so much support…you’re all part of my running Family!
Rodrigo Jara ran the Maratón Internacional de Asunción – Half Marathon and finished in 1:19:27. This was a personal record by 2 minutes!
21th overall and 4th AG. I am very happy with the result and with good hopes for the marathon in less than a month.
Jon Whitehouse ran the Barking Park 5K, finishing this distance in the time of 0:18:00, which was a PR by 21 seconds!
Mission accomplished. 5K PB. Summer training has paid off! The start was congested and felt frustrating but probably did me a favour by preventing me from going off too fast and gave me the carrot of passing people throughout the race. Second mile was the fastest and I managed to hold on for the final mile.
David Garner ran the Humpys Marathon and finished in a time of 3:23:25. This was a new personal record by 2 minutes!
Battled 20-30 mph winds to run a BQ time. Will see if it is good enough to get in.
Joel Damron ran the Ciudad de México Maratón with a finishing time of 4:45:21.
The people and the effort I invested. The Mexican people in races are so supportive and happy. The effort I invested on race day was a collective culmination of all the experiences and training leading up to race day.
Things I did right: I turned off my music; listened to and enjoyed the environment around me; listened to my cadence, breathing, and pace; and tried to relax and be positive throughout the race no matter how challenging it got.
Elisabeth Haukeland ran the Kambomila 10k and finished with a time of 1:07.
Great little terrain race. Along small muddy winding paths. Didn’t set a pr. but gave it my best the last 2 km and it felt great.
