RunnersConnect has an amazing weekend as athletes notch 7 Personal Bests

Anthony Boyadjis ran the Midland Avenue Mile and finished this race in the time of 6:57.

Don Albert ran the America’s Finest City 5k and finished with a time of 32:41. This was a personal record by 1 minute.

Being able to race again. Being trained properly really helps on the come back trail. Having beat some very serious illness, this was great mentally because it was a step forward. While my times are slowly decreasing, my age is increasing. My ultimate goal is to get to a 28 something 5k and finish in the top 25% for my age group. I picked up some good lessons this race and this cycle and will try to apply them before and during the next race (Thanksgiving day). This was a 1 minute improvement over a 5k I ran earlier this year. And while not the time that I had been training for, I think with a few tweeks I will be there.

Couldn’t have done it without you coaches!

Kari Ingebritsen ran the Rock the Pavement 10k and finished in a time of 57:33, which was a PR!

This was my first ever 10K, completed in the pouring rain at Lake Calhoun. I was soaked, but I ran the whole thing. This would be a beautiful course if you could see it and it’s pretty flat, perfect for a first timer. I struggled with pacing in the rain and was all over the map. I started too fast and then slowed down a little too much, but then I thought I hit a good stride, and really felt good at the 5K mark and began pushing it, until the last mile where I lost it a little again. Overall it was my fastest 5K at the halfway at 27:45, and given the weather I will take it.

Bjorg Klem ran the NYC Runs Governors Island 10K and finished with a time of 52:58. This was a new personal record by 2 minutes 43 seconds.

This was my tune-up race for the Wineglass marathon in October, 6 weeks away. Very happy with my PR although I knew it was likely. My last 10k PR was from June 2015, a few months after joining RC – you guys have clearly made me a faster and better runner over the last year and a half so I knew 53 mins was definitely achievable – thank you! The only uncertainty was the weather – 80 degrees, 80% humidity, no air and no shade. That part still sucked but legs felt great and was able to keep a pretty even pace throughout, sprinting uphill to the finish. I am certain I can drop that time further with fall weather. It was nice to run what felt like a small town race with only 800 or so runners between the 5k and 10k, small compared to the typical NYRR races I do.

Peg Hoffman ran the Traverse City Triathlon and finished this race event in the time of 6:09:56.

This was my second time doing this half-ironman distance triathlon. Although my time was faster last year, I’m proud of my perseverance this go around. It was a windy, partially rainy day that made the swim and bike particularly challenging. A bee sting on the run was a challenge too! But I fought threw and despite being very weak on the bike finished with a strong run that helped me achieve 3rd female overall! If anyone is considering a tri, reach out to me so I can talk you into it 🙂

Tom McCray ran the Perk Up Half Marathon with a finishing time of 1:43:12.

Very hilly course and humid morning, so I focused more on running by effort. Under 200 runners for this small local race, but I was still surprised to place 2nd in my age group, 14th overall and a big improvement of almost 6 minutes on this course. Very excited for next month’s tune up half, the course will be flat and hopefully the weather will be cool enough to try for a PR.

Carol Rhoades ran the Hobble Creek Half Marathon and completed this distance in the time of 2:05:00.

This race runs down a beautiful canyon. Nice and cool at the top. It is a relatively small race of around 600-700 people. This is the 3rd time I have run this. This year was my slowest…not sure why. I felt good going into it, training has gone well, tapered as directed, the weather was great, hydrated well, but at about mile 9.5 (rolling hills rather than downhill at this point), my legs just gave up on me. Maybe it is all that downhill that did a number on my legs. Ah well…it was good practice.

Brad Powers ran the ARX Half Marathon and finished in a time of 1:46:15.

Hilly and humid

Tony Malinauskas ran the BattleFrog 8K Obstacle Course Race and finished in 2:11:32.

This is an obstacle course race designed by Navy SEALS and conducted on a course so rugged that it was used in the Obstacle Course Racing World Championship for the past 2 years. I came in 10/32 in my age group in the Open division, which totally floors me because I used this race for training by doing the Elite-level obstacles (Open runners are supposed to do Novice or Intermediate level obstacles), running the extra trail on the course for Elites, and camping out at one particularly hard obstacle to learn technique. Also, finally conquered the Elite-level of 2 obstacles that had ALWAYS defeated me before — first try on each!

Patrick Callahan ran the Quantico 12K and finished with a time of 1:25:23, which was a PR!

The Quantico 12K is one of a series of races under the Marine Corps Marathon umbrella. Been a real challenging summer due to side effects from medications that zapped my energy and forced me to break up my long runs into one hour chunks-one in the morning and one in the evening. Seems to be sorted out now but anxious going into this one b/c of the heat and humidity, first trail run, and not knowing where my fitness was. I had a great time and really enjoyed the new challenge of running on the trails finishing 13/22 in my age group M50-54. First time running this race so calling it a PR!

Helen Olafsdottir ran the Reykjavikur marathon with a finishing time of 1:24:29.

Little bit hot today but a beautiful weather and overall the condition were good. There were just over 15 thousand participants registered in the race and lot of inspiration from the people who were cheering.

Little bit too fast in the beginning but I felt well and was in a good crowd with some runners who were aiming at 4 min/km pace. When I was finishing the 16th km I saw my competitor who had been far away from me from the beginning of the race, it was a Slovenian girl who were a ca 400m in front of me. Then I saw that I had a chance to win the race, and I needed to find the tiger in me. I decided that I had to try to shake her off me so I increased the speed. This was a little bit too soon in the race for me to change the speed down to 3:50 pace, still 5km to the finish line. I couldn’t hold it to the end and the last km was terrible, I was just finished. I Passed my strategy, I won the race, with ca 30 sec. But this was very difficult in the end.

Chris Murton ran the Sandy Point Half Marathon and finished with a time of 2:33:21.

I entered this race in 2010 and ended up dropping down to the 10km, so I was determined to see this one to the end. My main goal for this race was to test out my fitness, while also getting in a long run in my training program. My secondary goal was finish faster than my slowest half marathon time to date – which I did, by three half marathons!

I didn’t run a smart race, I didn’t run a fast race but I did have fun and I did test myself along the way.

Alex Viderman ran the Meridian Barn Sour 10k, finishing this distance in the time of 39:47. This was a personal record by 00:34.

This was a very small 10k, under 30 people. It was also my first 10k ever and my goal was to get a feel for pacing in the new distance. My previous fastest 10k was in the middle of my last half marathon @ 42:24 so I am counting this as a 0:34 PR! I started out controlled and within .5 miles passed everyone in the 10k and led the rest of the way for the win! I had a great time and really enjoyed this race. I held back a bit and didn’t push all out since this was my first 10k. Leading and winning was new and exciting and I really loved the 10k distance and the training plan RC has put together for me!

Geoff Hablow ran the Run 4 Downtown and finished with a time of 30:48, which was a PR!

As this was my first 4 mile race, I technically get a PR but overall I happy with the results in humid and sunny conditions. Ran just slightly faster than 10k pace miles 1,2,4 just over 5k pace. Mile 3 had hills, so pace slower. Looking forward to the lower humidity and really testing my fitness as been pretty close to 5k/10k PRs in this heat and humidity.

David Young ran the Palmer Township 5K and finished this distance in the time of 22:30. This was a PR by 54 Seconds.

This was just a tune-up race to use as a fitness check. Was hoping to get below the 7:00 minute mark per mile but I think the heat prevented that from happening.

The race was pretty much an out and back on a paved rail trail. The out part is downhill and the back part uphill. After looking at the Strava fly-bys, I was really strong on the uphill even though I didn’t realize it. Passed about 4 runners on the uphill (nobody passed me) and really increased the lead on other runners according to the fly-bys. Finished strong with nobody visibly in front of me and the closest about 30 seconds behind me.

Ended up finishing in about 22:30 (7:14) which was still a PR by 54 seconds. I’m very pleased with the results. Finished 16th overall out of about 300 or so and 2ND in my age group. I’m going to keep grinding away at the training as best I can through the rest of the summer heat, because I know fitness is still building, and look forward to some faster times once things cool off!

Stacy Thomas ran the Madison mini marathon & 5K and finished with a time of 26:28.

There was a drizzle/light rain for the entire race, but that was better weather than we had an hour prior to the race when it was thunder-storming. But it did make the road and bike path a little slippery.

The course measured long on my (and other racers) Garmin by up to an extra 1/3 of a mile. Which made my “results pace” look REALLY slow compared to my Garmin pace. I managed to finish 3rd (out of 49) in A/G division, 7th (out of 390) female, and 28th (out of 590) overall.
