Joe Allen ran the CASA Superhero’s 10K, finishing this distance in the time of 58:32.
Some races make you reach down deeper than you think you can to complete and this was one of those. We went from cool weather a couple of days ago to 80 degrees and humid at 9:00 am. That was bad enough but about 30 minutes in, the sun came out over a course with no shade. Glad I paced myself from the beginning and was able to run negative splits but it took everything I had in me not to stop until I hit the finish line. Passed a lot of folks on the return between Miles 4-5 when the sun melted them. I was by far the oldest runner and finished 10th overall, so it was one of those races you’re proud of completing.
Lisa Sluiter ran the Boston Marathon and finished this race in the time of 3:15:00.
Amazing day!!! I qualified on a flat course with a time of 3:35 and raced the Boston course 20 min faster in 3:15!! Super excited with my time. Goal time was 3:17 and I wasn’t even sure that was realistic. Started slow with the crowded roads but was able to build once the roads opened up a little and passed people the entire way. Felt really strong and great! Heart break hill was my slowest mile but loved the downhills on the back side. Mile 25 was getting tough but the energy and crowds got me to the finish line strong. My husband was able to see me on the course at mile 10 so that was fun! Everyone told me how amazing Boston is and they weren’t kidding! WOW! What an experience! Thank You for such a solid training plan that helped me rock Boston with a time of 3:15 at the age of 50! 28th in my age group which is the top 1 percent of my age group so that is super cool!!! Thanks for all the advice and help along the way!
Neal Mcmahon ran the Boston Marathon and finished with a time of 3:11:27. This was a personal record by 3 minutes!
Beautiful day and had a great race posting a 3:11:27. It was a PR by 3 minutes, topping my previous PR, also in Boston 2023, which was 3:14:32. My legs didn’t feel super peppy the first few miles but got into a good rhythm and crushed the hills in Newton and picked up the effort from Heartbreak Hill to Bolyston to reverse split the race by 5 seconds. I finished 43rd in my age group of 1274 runners. Side note: I have finished Age Group top 50 in my last 3 World Majors. Sydney 47th, Chicago 21st, and Boston 43rd. Pretty cool. Going to take a few weeks off then start to prepare for the Age Group World Champio nships and my 6th STAR medal at NYCM on November 2nd. Thanks RC Team!
Sabina Havkins ran the Boston Marathon with a finishing time of 5:28:18.
Running the Boston marathon is always special and also hard! Just getting to the starting line takes a combo of lots of training and just having all things fall into place. This was the 40th anniversary of my first Boston Marathon in 1985. Many things have changed since then (especially my running pace) but many things remain the same (Boston being so iconic and a great town for runners). I never planned to run a Boston marathon once per every decade of my life since 30 yo, but that is how things have worked out. Now at 70 years old I truly appreciate my good fortune. I thank RC coaches and the other athletes who have taken the time to respond to my posts here.
Although I ran a bit slower than I hoped for of around 5:15 (but in reality I did figure somewhere between 5 and 5 1/2 hours is what I was in shape for) I am still pleased with the result. The weather was warmer than I expected and I took fluids at all the aid stations. I weaved a bit on the course in order to soak in the crowds and family support at Heartbreak Hill.
I met a few iconic legends (Amby Burfoot, Jeannie Rice, Gene Dykes) and soaked in the energy of Boston. Not sure if another marathon is in this body, but for now time to recharge and appreciate the experience I just had.
Jodi Clatworthy ran the Boston Marathon and completed this race event in the time of 3:15:35. This was a new personal record by 3 minutes!
I am incredibly proud of this race!! Not because it was a PB, but because my execution felt so perfect and precise. I ran strong and controlled the first 25k, which ended up being slower than I had planned but felt like the right effort for the day. I focused on floating up the hills and maintaining effort, then recovering down the hills throughout Newton. Once I got over heartbreak hill I gave it my all and crushed the last 8k improving my overall pace by 5 seconds. My biggest take away from the race was to next time not run from side to side of the road since I ended up racing an extra 500m :p
The weather was perfect, the crowds were wild… I don’t think I will ever have anything as special as this Boston experience! Congrats to everyone who was there, it was truly a spectacular day!
