Team RunnersConnect had a stellar racing across the world as athletes notch 11 PRs over this weekend

Werner Heselmans ran the 10 Miles “Koen van Dijck’ and finished with a time of 59:28.

After an intense training period I was really happy to run this pace.

Kai Ng ran the Run The River 10k and finished this distance in the time of 0:39:39.

This was a corporate organised event, for charity, and they laid on nice 10 minute warm up session with a trainer on stage. I ran this race hard. It was extra challenging because it was on open streets, so you were amongst commuters and tourists, in the highlight spots of London. Half way, you joined the people doing the 5k option; so it got even more crowded. I was constantly politely asking people to stay to one side, but there was plenty of places where I was forced to slow a lot. The course was generally flat and it had lots of right angled turns. I tried to keep relaxed and keep good form through-out. I had nice long-ish strides, and the next challenge was to keep the cadence high. I proactively tried to keep my arm swing (short arc) and fast; which is quite difficult when you get tired. The last challenge was trying to keep the mind focused to keep going and not slow down. The last open stretch, exiting Tower Bridge offered a mixture of relief because it was the end, so I pushed a little harder on tired lungs. I ran over the finish line with an announcer calling out my name; nice. Finished in 39:39. Not a pb but happy considering the conditions.

Fritz Stoppelbein ran the Air Force Marathon with a finishing time of 3:29:31. This was a personal record by 5 minutes!

Same race I run every year to start my season!

Gillian Ross ran the Jamestown Half Marathon and finished in a time of 1:49:43.

I ran this exceptionally hilly course as a tuneup for my goal race. I planned on going out just slower then my goal marathon pace and then halfway kick it up to goal mp and finish the last few miles near hmp. I ended up just faster then goal mp by mile 2, continued until the second half and finished my last two miles very close to my 5k pace!! I finished feeling great! My left hamstring and right IT are a bit sore but do not feel like I usually do after a half marathon, where I’m usually hobbling a bit that first day. I feel as though if this was a course like my last half marathon 5 months ago (mostly flat) where I had PR’d (only 30 sec faster time then today) and if I was actually going out as my goal race I would have Pr’d no doubt about it! I’m really happy and feeling ready for the marathon!

Glenn DeCou ran the Piney Woods 10K and finished this race in the time of 1:21:42, which was a PR!

My first trail run. Ran the 10K and really enjoyed the experience. I definitely didn’t have a negative split. It was two loops of a mostly single track trail in a forest full of pine trees. Ran a few of the uphills on the first loop. On the second, not so many. Please with the results.

Jack Bryson ran the Whistler Alpine Meadows Trail Race 25k and finished with a time of 2:57:30. This was a new personal record by 20 minutes!

Great rugged course with 750m of vertical. Most of the climbing in the fist 6-7km. I had been on a driving mountain bike holiday so it made it tough to train. I was very happy with my performance and very happy with the training plan. Thanks.

Mark Gilbert ran the Back Pack Buddy 5k, finishing this distance in the time of 22:35. This was a PR by 1 minute!

I have ran several long distance races the past several years, but this race was my first 5k in about 5 years. The weather was great and perfect for today’s run. I ran a PR by about one minute and finished 8th overall and 1st overall master. I gave it all I had on this race but it wasn’t my best run. Looking forward to the next challenge.

Oleg Kyrylko ran the Frankivsk Half Marathon and finished this race in the time of 2:00:28. This was a massive personal record by 19:24.

Today I ran a half marathon instead of training a long run. My plan was to run easily at a training pace. I tried not to run fast from the start, then I met a companion who ran at a pace that was comfortable for me. The last three kilometers I could not resist and accelerated a little. That’s how I got an unplanned PR, chip time 2:00:28 (previous half marathon 04/07/19 – 2:19:52 improvement 19:24).

Thanks to the coaches and the RC team, I began to believe in miracles.

Peggy Culver ran the Global Energy Run 5k and completed this race event in the time of 0:36:40.

Had fun on this run. Made the mistake of starting out to fast but was able to maintain the pace for this run. Cut my time by 35 seconds from yesterday.

Cara Hazelton ran the Fredericton Fall Classic 10K with a finishing time of 0:52:43. This was a personal record by 3:01.

I NAILED IT! I am Thrilled with a 3:01min PR and a chip time of 52:43 (my goal was 52:59) – which gave me 3rd in my age division! WOOT! In the top 20% of all 10km finishers. I’m happy with this! Thank you Coaches for being the BEST at keeping us running and on track!

I had programed my Garmin for the paces I wanted to run which was a conservative first 3km and negative splits overall. I went out of the gate quickly in the crowd, and my watch was beeping at me to slow down. The adrenaline was moving but thankfully I stuck to the plan and slowed down right off the bat. I watched people pass me and just hunkered into the paces I had chosen. About half way through there was a guy ahead of me who was cruising at exactly the pace I wanted so I snuck in behind him and we went in together. It was nice to motivate each other. In the last 2km l upped my paces just a bit to finish strong. YEAH!

Lisa Deane ran the Hokie Half Marathon and finished in a time of 2:22:01. This was a new personal record by 12 minutes!

This was my second half marathon. My first was two years ago. I managed to shave 12 minutes off my time! So happy with that.

I wasn’t sure what my goal should be for the race. I decided on a slightly aggressive pace. I managed to keep that pace for the first half of the course, and I was feeling really good about it. But then I got to the second half of the course, which includes a ton more uphill sections, most of which are rather steep, and my body said yes, you chose to be too aggressive. Things got a little slower. I started getting in my head. And you know…but I stuck with it.

I finished strong, got it done, passed everyone in my immediate site for the last 3/4 of a mile of the course. I’m slightly disappointed I couldn’t keep the sub 10 minute pace, but I’m happy I finished. The weather was beautiful and I feel great!

Michael Schiel ran the MEC Race 3 Half Marathon and finished this race in the time of 1:50:53.

Great race today. I followed my plan, and beat my goal pace. Flat course. Turned out to be 2 rounds of a 4km route (4k out and back), and then a 5km route. Given this arrangement I broke the course in my mind into 3 segments: the first 8k I ran at just slower than my desired pace, the second 8k at just faster, and then tried to do the last 5k at slightly faster and aiming to do little bursts of picking runners off.

For the most part this worked. I ran the first 16k a little faster than expected. I felt like I had tons of gas in the tank at 11 k, but at 18 k or so I had to really push it. Used my mantras, used little bursts to keep up my cadence. I tried to recall those fast finish practice runs too…

I feel like it all came together well – the training, awesome advice from the coaches, some learned mental toughness, and the hydration and nutrition. Coming in at 5:12 per km was awesome – I honestly wasn’t sure I could make my 5:15 goal pace. Sooo happy with it all.

Bhavana Mocherla ran a Local Race 10k with a finishing time of 1:22:40.

Wanted to try 10K month before Marine core 10K at DC. But felt I was struggling to finish with stomach cramps and heat. Started late around 8 am and it was hot/muggy!

Nichola Walker ran the Surf City 10 Sundown 10 mile and finished with a time of 1:17:26, which was a PR!

I signed up for this race months ago as a tune-up for my November half marathon. Then last week I developed some pain in my right shin and was really on the fence about whether I should do it or not. The day before I decided my shin pain had improved enough that I should do it. After talking to the coaches we decided to aim for a 1:15-ish goal. I wasn’t confident that I was going to be able to do it but I figured I’d give it a try and planned to run the second half faster than the first. Well, long story short that didn’t pan out. I started out at the planned pace but by mile 5 I was already suffering and mentally not in a good place. The race was an evening race so the second half was also totally dark. I think this made it more challenging to push through mentally. By mile 7 I was just telling myself to keep putting one foot in front of the other. Mile 8 was my slowest mile, but once I hit the 8 mile mark I felt a bit better and was able to speed up, though not to goal pace, for the last two miles. A few surges helped quite a bit. So I ended up 2 minutes off my goal and finished 5th in my age group. That second half was really tough. I think the race being at the end of the day made it tougher from a fueling standpoint. The best part about this race is that my shin pain was nonexistent, which honestly is the best outcome I could have asked for! Glad I did this. In general I would like more experience racing and I think this was beneficial.

Sean Gilmore ran the Montreal Half Marathon and finished in a time of 1:42:16.

Late start for the race. We were all standing in the corral for an hour while they cleared the course. Ran too fast for the start. Watch wasn’t reporting splits correctly. So I ran based on feel for most of the race.

Ran inside Olympic stadium which is awesome but lost my pacing focus. There was a good size hill coming out of the stadium which slowed me down. Used the next couple of km to recover. Weather was warmer and humid than I prefer.

Louise Apsey ran the Solent Half Marathon and finished this race event in the time of 1:31:03. This was a PR by 50 seconds!

It was raining heavily today and race started on a water logged field, but once on roads pace felt really comfortable. Tried to run each mile at a time not thinking to far ahead really helped and I was comfortable passing other runners. The course was hilly especially the last 3 miles, with the last 200m on the water logged field again. Really pleased with my time a PR. I definitely think I had more in my tank as heart rate was an average of 155 but was a bit scarred to push to hard and blow up as I knew the last section of race was up hill. I’ve got a another half marathon in four weeks and will have the confidence now to try for sub 1:30 ?

Andrea Hudson Baldwin ran the Plano Ballon Festival Half Marathon and finished in 1:48:47. This was a personal record by 2 minutes.

Started out from a week plagued with soleus pain and running on a zero gravity machine, unsure if I would be able to start at all. My leg was hurting again in the morning, but I thought, if it’s too bad I’ll just drop out, it’s not the end of the world. Had to walk a bit to the start and let that be my warm up. I sorted myself in with the 1:50 pace group, one of the leaders was from my running group, so I felt a little more at ease. The race started out well enough and then there were the hills, the heat and the humidity. ⛰?? Just tried my best, drank at all the water stops, tested the Maurten gel and was able to finish ok. It’s nice to PR @ 60 ??‍♀️?

Michael Carr ran the NJ Championships 8k and completed this distance in the time of 0:40:07.

Special good is that I helped my 60’s team to a 3rd place finish and had a decent cross country PLP of 73.2%. Special bad was the heat and humidity that put one friend in an ambulance. I think I’ll just blame this tough outing on Global Warming.

Janie Pelletier ran the Marathon Oasis Rock’n Roll de MOntreal Half Marathon with a finishing time of 2:12:35.

I ran the half-marathon with my 29 year old daughter. We were proud to both finish at 02:12 and 02:13. I haven’t been able to train properly for the last month so the result is ok.

Susan Spencer ran the Lone Gull 10K and finished this race in the time of 0:50:05.

Beautiful scenery along the sparkling coast of Gloucester, Mass. It’s a VERY competitive field because it’s the USATF NE championship race. So all the fast club runners were there and I was nowhere near placing or even top 10 in age group. I tried to keep the first two miles in control and they were on pace. I just didn’t do a very good job picking it up after that, although in Mile 4 I managed to pass a few folks. I had fun reconnecting with many of my old competitor friends – it’s amazing to see some of those 60+ women beating the pants off the field!

Melissa Romero ran the Tecate Medio Maratón Half Marathon and finished in a time of 2:03.

Hometown half, it was also the first race I ran last year. (Last year’s time 2:33, this year’s 2:03 ?)

Catherine Hayes ran the Louisburgh Clew Bay Half Marathon and finished with a time of 1:52:19. This was a PR by 1 minute 33 seconds!

This was a tough race on the West coast of Ireland where it can be pretty wild weather – firstly because it was quite hilly and secondly because the wind was so strong. At time we were being blown sideways on the road! And although I waited for it we never really got is as a tail wind. Ideally I would have liked to break the 1:50 but I think that was always a stretch goal on this course. That said – I rang well by effort and held back a little in the first few miles which saved me in the end. I finished with a very strong downhill and was happy overall. Thanks as always to the coaches for their good advice 🙂

Ray Constantine ran the Twin Cities Half Marathon and completed this race event in the time of 2:21:40.

This race was just a warmup to the big one, but despite sloshing through driving rain and strong wind gusts, running over a very difficult-to-run grated bridge, and being soaked to the bone, I felt good enough to pick up my pace in the last 3 miles and finish in my top 10 all time. This was the annual Fifty States Half Marathon Club meetup.

Song Koh ran the Tick Tock Ultra 50 mile with a finishing time of 12:00:00.

The race was 12 hours long. (from 7:00am to 7:00pm) The goal is to see how many laps (2.84 miles) you can run/walk. It is a very low-keyed social event due to the loop. You see the same people pass you then you pass them. You tend to strike out a conversation with those people as the day goes on since you are walking more.

My stretch goal was 60 miles. I intended to run at 12:00 pace until until noon, then try to speed up to 11:00. By noon, I could tell that I wouldn’t be able to speed up. This ties my course PR set four years ago. Oficial time 51.12 miles for 12 hours. It was a good day.

El Jones ran the Girls Might Out 5K, finishing this distance in the time of 22:34.

All women’s race for breast cancer. Inspirational! Woman who started race had double mastectomy just 1 week prior. I didn’t like the course. It’s just cruel for a 5K to have the last .2 uphill! ?

Rodrigo Jara ran the Maratón de Buenos Aires Marathon with a finishing time of 2:52:45.

First marathon in the books! Really pleased on how it went, no wall, no cramps, no issues. Perfect weather, course and organization. I couldn’t be happier with my result, I felt I was 100% prepared for this marathon. Thank you all RC coaches and friends who support me on this journey. 118/12.000 Overall, 27AG. 1rst half in 1:27:19 – 2nd Half in 1:25:26.

Diana Bernard ran the Apfelland Half Marathon and finished with a time of 2:02:39.

This was supposed to be a tune-up half marathon race 4 weeks prior to “”my”” marathon. Well, I ran the half, but it was no race. For several days I have been fighting off a cold. In the morning I knew I could never perform a decent race with a finish I would be content with (initially I was aiming for a 1:53:xx). But at least I wanted to give it a try. We had to run 6 times around a small lake. I started moderate, then I tried to push a little – but it was way too strenious at this moment. The next split was at easy pace until I felt ready for the next faster split. This one was already better, but I was not in the physical constitution to see it through. So it went on for the next kms, easy-faster-easy-faster. The last 5,8 kms I was able to maintain 5:32 pace/km and I even “”mastered”” a finish-sprint 🙂

Of couse it’s a pity, since I had been really looking forward to this race. But on the other hand, I’m grateful that at least I could take part in the competion and, given the circumstances, finish relatively strong.
