Jack Bainum ran the Cypress Half Marathon and finished with a time of 1:32:45. This was a personal record by 2:52.
Shatchakarn Chaiear ran the Tiger Balm Khao Yai Trail 2018 (Half Marathon) with a finishing time of 3:18, which was a PR!
I finished half marathon within my goal ‘3.5hrs’
Steffen Lang ran the Lönsparklauf 5k, finishing this distance in the time of 16:53.
Second place, back to racing. Managed to win a bottle of ? and a voucher. Second-to-best time!
Sara Ham ran the Richmond Marathon and finished in a time of 4:08::30. This was a new personal record by 00:09:02.
I ran this race on a deferment from last year. I was determined to come back stronger. I was picking up traction when I was surprised by an unexpected pregnancy and then spiraled by the loss of the baby at our second ultrasound. I needed help with motivation, I was struggling to find any. I turned to RunnersConnect.
My goal was a strong race. I said a PR would be awesome and if remotely possible I’d love to break 4 hours. I ran a strong mental race and I leave a goal on the table for another day! It was hillier than I anticipated, but the weather was perfect, the crowd support was awesome and the scenery was beautiful. I definitely need to master the negative split—it still alludes me.
I knew there were two big climbs, but I wasn’t expecting how long those climbs were. I had to keep pushing myself the last 6 miles. At mile 24 I saw my awesome husband for the 4th time on the course. I kept pushing mentally and finally got to the last leg which was all down hill. I love downs and was able to let it fly. I was so happy to be done and ring the PR bell.
I trained hard and RunnersConnect did a great job preparing me to PR. I said I wanted to do my best that I had in me on race day and I definitely feel that I laid everything I had on the course. I have my eye on another marathon next year and slicing down my time even more.
Prue Blatchford ran the Portland 3 Bays Marathon Festival Half Marathon and finished in 1:52:53. This was a PR by 7 minutess 24 seconds!
This was my goal road race for the year. I have been training hard, and expected to shave time from last year’s result but wasn’t sure by how much. The race was 120km from home, and I went over with a couple of girlfriends.
The race started at the halfway point of the marathon. 62m of elevation in the first 500m meant the first km was way slower that I would’ve liked. The next 13-14km were uneventful, and I comfortably ran at the time I had planned. Once I hit the 15km mark and a few more small/med hills, I started to fatigue and the pace slowed a little. By km 18, my body was screaming at me to walk, but I managed to switch off and keep the legs moving. Once I saw that finishing chute, I could’ve cried from sheer relief that it was over. I crossed the line with a pr of 7 mins and 24 sec.
Shirley Brown ran the Rocky Run Half Marathon and finished this race in the time of 2:12:02, which was a PR!
My first 13.1 miles.
Taylor Holt ran the 100% Pure Kona Half Marathon and finished with a time of 1:24:30. This was a PR by 2 minutes!
I haven’t raced in years so I wasn’t sure how I was going to do. I just followed the advice given by Runners Connect and I went out and got 5th overall.
Dennis Moore ran the Longview Half Marathon and finished this race event in the time of 2:10:53.
This time last year, I was recovering from finishing my fifth full marathon. But this year I have not been able to run much since mid August due to grad school. In fact, my two longest runs since then were a 12-miler on Sept 11, and a 13.5 mile run back on Aug 7. I did 10 miles last week as a test, and decided not to step down from this 13.1. A 14 degree starting temp was intimidating, too. Worst case, I thought I could turn at the 10k split if needed, but I felt pretty good at that point so kept going. I was pleasantly surprised with the finish. My “A” goal was simply to finish under 10:00/mile pace, and the “B” goal was to finish at any pace but without walk breaks. I was able to hit both, and got a good boost of confidence. Looking forward to ramping back up for next spring! ?
Aaron Greenblott ran the New York City Marathon with a finishing time of 4:09:24, which was a PR!
1st timer!
Carmen Lopez-Acevedo ran the Derby de las aficiones race and finished in a time of 48:18, which was a PR by 1:28.
Wow didn’t think I could knock this out 5 weeks after a marathon! It’s a downhill course so that helps of course but it has 2 steep hills, the worst one at km 7. I really pushed when I could see I would PR and passed the finish line almost puking again grrr, but I guess that means there was nothing left in the tank. It was also a 5km PR. Just 3 weeks left until Valencia Marathon!
Mike Thurber ran the Richmond 2018 Marathon and completed this race event in the time of 3:52:25. This was a PR by 7 minutes, 21 seconds!
My most rigorous training ever for a race. I was determined to BQ, but missed it by about 2 and a half minutes. But I did a PR and managed to keep acidosis at bay until about mile 20.
Jared Spencer ran the RDC 1/2 Marathon and finished with a time of 1:18:25, which was a PR by 20 seconds!
Cold morning with temps around 28 at the start. Official time was 1:18:25 which placed me 3/511 overall and 3/211 among males. This result shaved another 20 seconds off my previous personal record. My goal this morning was to average under 6:00/min per mile and was able to do just that.
This was one of the harder races I’ve run but not because of any hills. After the first mile around a huge mall parking lot, we hopped onto an asphalt trail. The course had us running out 7.5 miles and then turning back to the mall. I was in third at the time we hit the trail and stayed there the rest of the race. I quickly lost sight of the first two runners so until the turnaround, I ran I complete silence with no one in sight behind me either. After the turnaround for about 2 miles, I passed slower 1/2 marathon and marathon runners still heading in the opposite direction but, again, around mile 9.5 I was by myself on an empty trail. Maybe in the end, training solo actually helped me because I had been in that scenario before. Proud of myself for gutting it out and that last mile was about as deep as I’ve ever had to dig to maintain my pace going up a steep hill.
Patrick Douglass ran the Stockadeathon 15k and completed this distance in the time of 1:12:52, which was a PR by 54 seconds!
Great race, I didn’t really have a race plan for this one except to stay ahead of my training partner. We ran together for 7 miles at a good pace, and after the last hill I was feeling good and I realized I could PR and maybe break the 1:13:00 mark. I started to push the last 2 miles and was able to stay ahead of my friend, but only by 8 seconds and finish at 1:12:52. He also PR’d by over a minute. Weather was cold, but great for racing.
Nicola Tortora ran the Ravenna HM and finished this race in the time of 1:40.
I was able to keep the pace I wanted except for the down town were there were many sharp curves and roads made of stones and the last 3-4 km. After all good performance and I can see I’m improving with time. I’m happy and enjoyed the race with many people around. It was a sunny day as well and not so cool so it was very pleasant. The medal was very artistic and made of mosaics in style with the Ravenna local art.
Alistair Mitchell ran the Behobia – San Sebastian 20k and finished this distance in the time of 1:43.
Wow. I live in San Sebastián Spain and for 9 years I have failed to enter this race for various reasons. It’s sort of a right of passage here. 32,000 runners running a pretty hilly race. It’s all about the atmosphere. It’s a warm up race for me so went with for other dads from the Sunday’s run group. It’s about fun. It bloody hell its hard. They have just done a half and I’m building up to a full in 2 weeks so we are all in decent shape. If you ever get a chance to do it – you must. It’s a point to point and brilliantly organised. Two other cool things. This year (54 Edith) they have set themselves the challange of 50:50 women’s to men by 2020. They invited Katherine Switzer to open the race. A great weekend for a fun race.
Lindsay Mitchell ran the Harborside Half Marathon and finished in a time of 1:36:36, which was a PR by one minute!
This was an interesting build-up. I nailed some recent workouts so I knew the speed was there; I also knew coming into this race that running a PR would be hard with the forcasted 15-25mph winds in 20 degree weather. However, I entered the race with the attitude: “”You cannot defeat the conditions, but they can defeat you if you let them””. My desire was to run smart and focus on effort for the entire race–and I ran watchless.
The first 2-3ish miles were literally into the wind. I ignored the people that passed and and hoped I would see them again. By mile 6, the large group ahead of me came back to me and I passed them all through mile 9. As I crossed mile 9 I noticed the 5th female ahead of me and I thought of surging ahead to catch her, but held back as I know that normally mile 9:5-10.5 are usually horrible.
The rest of the race went fairly smoothly and I realized at mile 10 I actually felt really good, but by then it was too late to catch the woman I mentioned. So, I focused on picking off the men in front of me. The only hiccup was at mile 12 some left hip discomfort came about and I slowed down some to make sure all was well. I knew I had run a good race strategy-wise and was content with whatever time I would get in the end.
The finish time at the end was a bit of a surprise. I was sure I was under 1:40:00 but I didn’t expect that time. This is an exciting end to my building season. The real work begins for the marathon in January, with a brief 2 month period to work on 5k speed. My goal for 2019 was to get sub 1:34:00 in a half (among others).
Corey Wittersheim ran the Richmond Marathon with a finishing time of 2:58:48.
I was mentally tough thanks to the tired leg long runs in the plan. Without that I would’ve considered coasting in but I knew I had it in me.
Rodrigo Jara ran the Marea Azul BBVA 5k, finishing this distance in the time of 18:02.
It was a good experience. Won my AG (20-29) and ranked 6th.
Stephanie Hablow ran the Seacoast Half Marathon and finished this race in the time of 2:15:40. This was a personal record by 8 minutes!
I got an 8 minute PR! This is my third half marathon in just over a year and this was the best training cycle I have had yet. I challenged and pushed myself, and it all fell into place. This race was special to me, because it’s a local race, well supported by my running group. I set out with 3 goals in mind, and I hit my B goal of 2:15! I was on pace for a 2:10 finish, but my calves cramped up really bad in mile 10. I had to stop multiple times to stretch and massage, but I jumped back on the course and ran when I could. So many supportive runners on the course asking if I was okay, and giving me the morale boosts. I’m so grateful for such a wonderful running community that we are all a part of!
Lisa Bothun ran the Madison Half-Marathon and finished in a time of 2:01:01.
Nice race, a little chilly and windy. Was hoping to get under 2 hours but I don’t seem to do well in cold weather. Ended at 2:01:01…24/90 in division. Nice conditions on the way out, into the wind at the half way and lots of up and down hills after that. Last two miles were uphill…was pretty inspired to run in with someone pushing in someone with the “runwiththeangels” team.
John Markianos-Daniolos ran the Athens Authentic Marathon with a finishing time of 4:06:35. This was a massive personal record by 32 minutes!
I started faster than planned up to the 18th km. From 24 to 31 there are uphills but this year I ran them with no problems or exhaustion. At 32 when the downhill began I ran with a pace of 5:30 which dropped gradually but almost all splits were under 6. I finished feeling very well with no exhaustion (but quite emotional). Overall very good race with PB and an impressive progress from 4:38 of last year. Weather was sunny most of the time but not much heat. Record number of about 18.000 runners but organisation handled it excellently.
Kimberly Versak ran the Richmond Marathon (17 miles) and finished this race in the time of 2:29:33.
When an Achilles injury derailed my marathon plans I decided rather than drop down to the half that I would still do the full but drop out a little over the halfway point (spoiler alert – it was really hard to do this). I had decided to pace my friend to bed sub 4 goal. Her coach has asked that we keep our pace to 8:50 for the first 15-17 miles and then another friend hopped in for the last 11. It was amazing. In a sport dominated by personal goals and chasing the BQ it felt a little weird to focus on someone else’s goal – but good and rewarding too! My achillles held up just fine.
Deidra P ran the Las Vegas Marathon and completed this race event in the time of 4:13:54.
Disappointed with my performance but there are a lot of lessons. In hindsight, I should’ve cancelled this race because I have a lot going on, but I felt so strong and so confident… I thought adrenaline would compensate for lack of rest and hectic schedule. The biggest lesson is probably, “If you normally run at 4am, pick a race start time near 4am not 4pm!”.
Liz Lawson ran the Newburyport Harborside Half Marathon and finished with a time of 1:41:17. This was a PR by 1 minute 43 seconds!
Dealing with health issues the week of the race. Amazed that my body healed itself of the cold and the pinched nerve in my torso. I think I could have run harder if I would have had a normal healthy week, but it is what it is. This is my 4th PR in a row. I do 2 HMs a year. Crazy! I think I’ve lost 5-7lbs since my last race, so I’m sure that gave me an edge! What a great experience!!
Melissa Kretschmer ran the Surfer’s Point Marathon with a finishing time of 4:53:57, which was a PR!
It was my first marathon so I didn’t know what to expect in regards to pain, threshold, and nutrition. I trained with applesauce squeezies and almonds but in retrospect I should have included energy gels because those helped with the muscle cramps.
Pebble Williams ran the Harborside, Newburyport 5k and finished with a time of 31:17:00.
I felt great. Controlled breathing and ran my heart out. Found gas at for the last 400m and gave into a down hill curve to the finish.
