Keith Shinabargar ran the Sendai International Half Marathon and finished with a time of 1:59:57. This was a massive personal record by 15 minutes!
Despite what was a very short training period for this distance (about 5wks), I not only set a 15-minute PR, I eked out a sub-2hr finish (by 7 seconds!), which was really my secret A++ goal for this race that I had all but given up on in the days leading in. I was really happy with the strong negative split. This result was made even better by the fact that owing to a series of unfortunate circumstances–a bad cold, a foot injury, and two separate typhoons(!)–I had been unable to start a race at the half marathon distance or longer in over two years. I really felt stronger than I ever have in a HM and can’t wait to tackle a full marathon in the fall!
Steffen Lang ran the Rund um Bredenbeck race and finished in a time of 20:38.
So, this was my first race (6km) since the perfect Marathon 5 weeks ago. Well – despite I missed my hoped for time by a large margin – 39 seconds. I won, which compensates and also makes happy! Very hilly course with 75 m elevation. As I already felt during last steady run on Friday, I actually lost quite a lot of fitness during the last weeks. Never mind, will now work hard to re-build and absorb what will be coming. Now enjoying some recovery????
Nathan Torgerson ran the Cape Cod Ragnar Relay and finished this race in the time of 22:50, which was a PR!
Beautiful Course! From a team standpoint, it was barely a PR, as we ran it one second per mile faster than our last Ragnar (7:27 vs 7:28). My team, the Medtronic Neurotic Soles, took first place in the corporate division, 9th place for 12 person teams, 11th place overall out of 464 teams.
I expected to run my first leg at about a 6:45 pace, but I felt really good and hit a 6:25 pace for the 10.9 miles, which included a couple steep up and down hills at the end. For my second leg I planned to run at a 6:25 pace for this 4.3 miler, but I hit 6:09, which included some loose gravel sections, and this was run in the dark. Because it was in the dark I didn’t go all out, making sure I didn’t fall or get hurt. I planned to run my last leg at a 6:25 pace for this 3 miler. Starting out at sub 6 for the first half, but then had to take a pit stop and the last half was hilly on loose gravel. I ran it at a 6:16 pace. Very fun weekend!
Beth Wiltshire ran the Journeys Power Walk Half Marathon with a finishing time of 2:38:24.
I almost didn’t go to this race because I thought I couldn’t be competitive. Had a severe shin injury 5 weeks prior, right in the middle of peak training. Took me two weeks to even start training again.
Planned to just go and be happy I could recover well enough to finish the Half, but felt great during the race so kept increasing my pace. Picked off familiar competitors one by one and caught up to my rival. We walked side by side for about a mile and a half before she kicked in and beat me to the finish line. So overall very pleased, best time in this race and my closest margin to my rival in getting 2nd place for the third year in a row. Not bad considering I didn’t think I’d be competitive!
Thanks to RC for preparing me so well that even taking weeks off in the middle of peak training still left me ready.
Jared Spencer ran the Celebrate your mother 5k and finished this distance in the time of 17:42. This was a PR by 20 seconds!
Local 5K race this morning. Finished 1st overall out of 382 runners. 17:42 is a race PR but not my fastest 5K ever. Per Garmin, I did run a faster split during a 10K earlier this year. Just one time in my life I would like to run a 5K with good racing conditions. 70+ degrees at start made it tough. UGH!! After mile #1, I was just trying to hang on. Per the RunnersConnect temperature calculator, the heat had about a 5 second per mile negative impact on my pace. Maybe soon I can go sub 17:30.
Kevin Long ran the Bridgehampton Half Marathon and completed this race in the time of 1:45:35, which was a PR by 9 seconds!
Fourth time I have run this race and the conditions were optimal – cloudy, cool on a flat course. I really love this race. I had hoped to PR and I did – by 9 seconds. Was hoping to shave a minute off my time. I ran too conservatively the first half of the race as I had plenty in the tank when I surged in the last quarter mile – another lesson to learn. But a PR is still a PR and considering I’m 52 years old I am proud of my continued improvement as a runner. I did have a course PR by three minutes so I’ll focus on that for now. Thanks RC for a plan that is helping me achieve my goals. Sub-four marathon is next!
Christina MacDougall ran the 18 mile (30k) Sirena Mermaid Run and finished with a time of 3:12:34, which was a PR!
I was aiming for 3 hrs for 18 miles (course was actually 30k so about 18.6 miles), but would’ve been happy with anything below 3:15. My watch read 3:12:58 (stopped it a few seconds passed the finish line) and 18.64 miles…course did seem a little long. Official time was 3:12:34. Super happy with this time!!! I held at pretty close to 10 minutes per mile through mile 12, mile 13 was a little slow for food (still would’ve been a HM PR by several minutes!). Overall, I couldn’t be happier! It was a great run…I busted out mile 15 at 9:40 pace, but then slowed a bit in mile 16…I think I over did it just a little in mile 15. Miles 17 and 18 were solid, but not fast. I finished with an overall pace of 10:21. The most amazing thing about this race was I never once questioned whether I’d finish, it was all about how I’d finish. Didn’t realize that until after the race, which is amazing considering 3 years ago I could barely run for 30 seconds at around 15min/mile pace. The training with RunnersConnect is what gave me that confidence and has allowed me to improve so much! This was not an A race, the SF Marathon in July is that, but this was a great fitness test and huge confidence boost headed into the next couple months of training. Which is exactly what I was hoping it would be! I’m aiming for 10:15 or faster pace for the marathon. Not much soreness post race, so I think I pushed a good amount.
