Kate Griffin ran the Running of the Green 5 mile and finished with a time of 39:39. This was a PR by 20 seconds!
I wanted to be controlled and strong for this race and if I could get in a PR that would be a bonus. Overall my body felt solid on this. Everything felt strong until the last mile. The final push felt a little more difficult than I expected but I was still able to shave 20 seconds off my previous PR. And recovery wise, I felt completely normal within 2 minutes of crossing the finish.
Travis Dowell ran the Lucky Half Marathon and finished this race in the time of 2:32:46.
This was a half marathon completed at an average pace of 11:39 on a route with 384 feet of elevation gain, which is an average of 29 feet for every mile. The course was advertised as “flat”, and I thought they were going to run in on a cinder track around baseball fields in the same park. I arrived at about 5:50 am and there was no one at the ballpark, so I drove over to the course that I have used before and sure enough, they had a course which was a circular route about 1 mile around, but it was not as flat as I had hoped. I came in trail shoes, but had the wisdom to bring road running shoes. So I ran fairly quickly the first four miles and then I got side stiches on my right side just under the ribs. I put some Biofreeze on it, but it took 3 miles to kick in, Then I ran some decent paces, but they were slower than last week’s 11:32 pace on a course with over 700 feet of elevation gain. This time I averaged 11:39, so it was close, but probably not as fast as it would be had I not done two half marathons in 8 days. Last week I was 15th of 30 runners and I was 2nd place in my age group. This week I was 6th among 14 runners, again being the oldest runner, this time by 17 years. I got lapped a lot by the faster runners, but I did lap on runner I knew about 4 times, but he ended up in last place. I must have lapped others, but I did not notice. I did notice I was being lapped, and one had UTAH written on the back of his race shirt. I spoke with him after the race, but did not realize he was in first place until I saw the results when I got home. Lesson learned is never believe it when a Race Director says his course is flat, and never run half marathons on back to back weekends.
Tony Malinauskas ran the Spartan Super Obstacle Race (10K) with a finishing time of 2:04:24.
I took it easy bc this is my first race after recovering from pneumonia in Jan/Feb. Nonetheless my results were very good — I vanquished even my 2 nemesis obstacles and finished 4th of 39 in open age group!
El Jones ran the Mayor’s Lucky Charm 5k, finishing this distance in the time of 23:39.
One of my fav 5k. Not because the course was easy- lots of rolling ups and downs and curvy on a golf course but because my brother- in-law sponsors it and I get to hang out with so many friends and family. It’s a very small race for St Patrick’s day and that’s my birthday so we usually celebrate it at that race. My husband took OA male and I got OA female! Icing on my birthday cake!🎂 🤣
