Beth Montgomery ran the Washington Heights 5k, finishing this distance in the time of 27:00.
This race was really hilly and it was snowing throughout the race. As soon as I started I knew this wasn’t going to be my personal best, running didn’t feel easy and I was working hard to run at an 8:30 pace. At mile two, I was coughing up while running up a hill so I slowed down. I struggled to take in a clear breath for the final mile. I think it was the cold air combined with my effort that created this situation.
Lisa Sluiter ran the Greenville Half Marathon and finished with a time of 1:30:14.
So close to my goal of breaking 1:30. Great race! I was a little to aggressive on the first half and paid for it on the last 5 miles. I was still pushing hard but my pace slipped off. In hind sight I should have been more conservative on the first half but with the easy course I thought I’d be okay. I won the Grand Master title by 11 minutes! So although it’s frustrating to miss my goal by 15 seconds I’m still pretty proud of running 1:30:14 at the age of 52!
