Vanda Doyle ran the HMF Iron Horse 10k and finished this distance in the time of 59:46. This was a personal record by 4:57.
Second 10k and the PR improves a 10k training time from last year. Scenic race route (also included a half and 5k) and luck with 59F temp. In this race I finally understood and accepted where my race fitness was at. I originally thought I had set a conservative plan however, that turned out to be realistic rather than the hopeful plan I usually go for. Plan B allowed for hope instead of being a fallback. This change of thinking was significant and the race more comfortable as a result. Patience, I had loads of patience! Within bounds until surging slightly to stay with a passing runner at 4.5 or so. Lack of experience in not knowing how narrow my margins because surprised to find nothing left during the sixth mile surge however regrouped and again patiently waited until finish line was in view at mile 6 before a good race finish. Only 4 people passed me in the last half and I passed 50 or more. Not a runner’s high at this pace to be honest, but satisfaction with progress.
Mark Ballou ran the Valley Crest Trail Half Marathon and finished with a time of 2:08:33, which was a PR by 0:1:20.
I’ve been chasing a PR on this course for a while. I was hoping to get sub-2:09 and was pleased to succeed. My previous best on this hilly course was 2:09:53, back in 2013, and that was after a marathon training season and spending a whole lot of time on trails. I was definitely in better shape then and about 10+ lbs lighter, but I’m a bit wiser now. I previewed the course twice over the last month. With all the research, I think I ran a smart race. I kept up a pace that I felt made walking unnecessary, conserved energy, let loose on the downhills, and finished fairly strong. As for fueling, returning to my old homemade ‘Go-Juice’ served me well.
Stephanie Hablow ran the Market Square 10k with a finishing time of 1:07:53. This was a new personal record by 1 minute!
Incredibly fun race in a great community. It was my first time running as a member of my running club. And had a friend push me throughout the race to PR. Even with having to walk a few times due to heat and exhaustion, I still managed a PR. And coming off an injury too!
Sarah Fitzgerald ran the Zionsville 5k, finishing this distance in the time of 21:38.
I love sub 7 races!! Had an overall pace of 6:58, I will take it given the hot temperature today!! I won 2nd place overall and this race director did division awards and I won my division! Received a nice prize pack of $75 in compression boots sessions. I felt strong and powerful during this race. There is no better feeling in the world than finishing a race and accomplishing a goal you work day in and day out for!!! Great race, great run today!
Greg David ran the Oddyssey Half Marathon and finished in a time of 1:55:44. This was a personal record by 2 minutes!
This was a PR in hot, humid, and sunny conditions. I ran in similar conditions in September at the rock n’ roll half — 2:10 then. That’s over 10% improvement in under a year. Thanks, coaches!
Susan Spencer ran the Ocean to the Bay 5 Miler and finished this race in the time of 39:35.
If you’ve seen “Men in Black II,” remember the lighthouse/post office where Tommy Lee Jones (K) is working as the postmaster of Truro, Massachusetts? While that’s where this race starts and finishes. Drop-dead gorgeous scenery. Sure the first mile is a gentle downhill roll as you descend from the bluffs to cross the width of Cape Cod to the bay. There’s a little hill at the bay beach (just before 2 miles), and then run back toward the ocean. BUT – you make a detour after mile 3 and head down to an ocean beach, then climb for more than a mile back to the lighthouse. In the open sun. With headwinds.
Not a PR by a long shot, but I won the women’s 50-59 and got a nice little piece of seaside art. 15th overall out of 94 finishers (male and female). They give a blueberry pie to the oldest finisher, which my 80+ year-old teammate won.
Karen Scobie ran the LadiesRun 10k and completed this race event in the time of 57:49.
Very hot day today but fun to be running with all women of all ages. It was a flat course, but a wind tunnel for the last km so it was hard to push the pace to bring it home. This was my first time specifically training for a 10k, but I knew it wasn’t going to go as well as I hoped. Despite the heat and some health issues I’m dealing with, this was only about 90 seconds slower than my 10k PR, set during a tune-up race.
Bill Keefe ran the Celebrate West Hartford 5k, finishing this distance in the time of 24:58.
Certainly a PR for this year, and for returning to racing after 7 years. First race in May was 26:03, (8:36) so I set my sights on 8 min splits. Came in at 8:03 splits (24:58) on the gun, so nothing to complain about. It was hot (85f) and sunny. I had little left at the end but felt great and no aches and pains! Still a lot to work on but a good Sunday, that’s for sure.
Amanda Haselden ran the Helvetia Half Marathon with a finishing time of 1:48:55.
I got to run this with my husband – only his second half marathon ever – and some students from our high school Fit program. My husband and I ran a half marathon together 4 years ago, and I didn’t think he would ever do another. But this year, he committed, put in the hard work, and smashed his goal on a beautiful, but hilly course. I’m so proud of him and honored to be able to run it with him! It was cold and VERY rainy, but the kids had a good time as well.
Karen Hulbert ran the America’s Half-Muncie June Tri and finished this race in the time of 3:07:29, which was a PR!
Muncie June Olympic Duathlon – Overall Female Champion. Kind of hot, kind of windy but a whole lot of fun plus it’s a PR since this was my first.
Felt great the 1st run (8:43 pace), felt good on the bike (15.4 mph) but the wind and last few hills were getting to me on the 2nd loop, was hoping to finish more around 16. It was hot by the time I started the 2nd run so could only average 9:30 since I was doing short 10-20 second walks. Not sure if I went out too fast or if it was the wind and heat but still happy with the results and looking forward to the next.
Run 1 (5K)-27:01 (8:43 pace)
T1-2:32
Bike (40.8K)-1:36:49 (15.4 mph)
T2-1:41
Run 2 (10K)-59:26
Rong Qian ran the San Diego Rock n Roll Marathon and finished with a time of 4:11:36, which was a PR!
First marathon!
