Catherine Petrosino ran the Wakanda Forever 5k and finished with a time of 33:29.
I have not expected to PR at the 5k distance right now, but I know that I can in the future. I am looking at these races as a learning experience to understand how I should run a 5k. My goal is to PR at a fall race.
Amanda Fuller ran the Gold Coast Marathon with a finishing time of 4:33, which was a PR!
Was a little apprehensive about this distance as haven’t ever run more than 25km but surprised at how great it was. Ended up running with a friend from another state who has done 3 marathons and we found a steady rythym of 6-6.15 for the whole run. My legs tiring and pace dropping about 32kms… told her to run on but she stayed with me and after a walk past the next drink station, we powered on. She tired about 38 kms and it was my turn to support her and help her through the last 4 kms.. in the last 200 m through that cheering crowd she reminded me to relish this experience and we raised our arms and held hands as we crossed the line. So proud of my achievement and grateful for the support of coaches and running community!
Yoi Ohsako ran the Milltown Firecracker 5k and finished this distance in the time of 20:59.
Although this was not a PR, I was very happy with the results because even with an 8:10 am start, the temps were already in the low to mid 80s with very high humidity and I do not run well in the heat and humidity, so I was just targeting a 21:30 but I ended up breaking 21 minutes and placing 1st in my age group (Male 40-49).
Lorena ran the Run x IT 10K and finished this race in the time of 53:07. This was a PR by 7 minutes!
It was a big PR for me, this training has been harder than my previous 2 with you, and I do feel stronger, faster. I have never been very fast so breaking a PR 6-7 minutes is a big deal for me!!! excited that I was able to sustain my pace for 10 Kms, a faster pace than I had thought. Now the challenge is to do the same with the Marathon come October 13th!
David Lenz ran the Afton 50K Trail Race and finished in a time of 5:59:22. This was a personal record by 6:28.
This is the 3rd consecutive year I have run this race. It is very fun. There were about 400 entrants, I finished 84th. Grand Master is 50 and over and I was 7th. They don’t recognize 60 and over but I was 1st. It had rained the night before so the course was muddy. There is 4670feet of elevation gain. The secret to running a good time is to run as much of the up hills as you are able. It is steep. The down hills crush your quads. I was aiming for a 5 hour 50 min finish but I will take a sub 6. I felt I ran this race well and did not leave much. The first few miles are conga line on single track and you really can’t go fast. This actually helps. The race started at 66F and finished at 84F with about 85%RH. I drank alot of water. Didn’t eat too much. I think my feet got through it ok. Feet were wet the entire race. This race is a perfect warm up to my next race as the courses are similar. Happy with the result and no injuries.
Kyle Hatfield ran the Clintonville 4 on the 4th (4 miles) with a finishing time of 23:47.
Finished 5th overall out of 300 runners. Placed 1st in the 40-49 age group. I had not raced in a while due to a leg injury, so it was great to see that I still have some good performances in me!
Jim Paterson ran the Fireworks at the Lake 4 miler and completed this distance in the time of 42:49.
Starting temp was 88F with horrendous humidity and no breeze. I got stroller duty with my grandson just to add an upper body workout. This was a first time race and the organizer obviously hadn’t planned for the 700 runners since we started off and were funnelled on to add a sidewalk which led to some close encounters with the stroller as well as a lot of speeding up and slowing down. I noticed my heart rate climb early in to the 160s and by mile 3 it was in the 170s so I slowed down for some walk breaks. Finished with a reasonable time considering everything.
Val Hinsperger ran the Ottawa Canada Day Run 5k, finishing this distance in the time of 24:49.
This was a tune up race with a theme. Canada Day runners were out in full Canada Day colors – red and white. The 1k for 5-7 year olds is a highlight for all. Over 1400 people were entered for the morning’s events. It was a very crowded start with the event sharing the road with traffic for the first k. We then went into a shaded neighborhood. I am not a “5k” runner so I set out running evenly and went for the fast finish. All went smoothly and I never felt the “pain cave”. No one passed me , which is always a good feeling – which helps when you start at the back – lol. I really felt I could have carried on for quite a while at that pace. The track workouts have helped sharpen the legs. It is race 5 (total series is 11 races) that I have completed for the Run Ottawa Point series. I have done well and the goal is to complete them all in good standing ( top 3) rather than smash times and risk injury. That being said, this is the second fastest 5k I have run in 17 years so I am trending the right way. Thanks RC coaches and community.
Amy Brown ran the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge (5.6k) and finished with a time of 34:35.
I haven’t run any organised events for at least 18 months, and this was my first race after a period of being unwell. So just thrilled to be back in the race!
Peter Fox ran the Firecracker 5k and completed this distance in the time of 29:39.
This was the hot and sticky mess of a race last year that really motivated me to train smarter. Knowing the course has a very tempting long downhill section early on then a pretty hilly 2nd mile, I fixed last year’s mistake and throttled back the first mile.
The mile 2 rolling hills came and the doubt started to creep in a bit. I grinded it out and felt great when I passed the spot where I started to walk last year because I knew I was in a much better spot. Mile 2 ended up going by more quickly than I thought it would.
The course flattened out a bit for mile 3 and I picked up the pace. At that point I made a great adjustment, focusing on shoulders down, chin slightly up and arms pumping forward. This made a huge difference and I found my groove again.
The last part of the course includes two quick turns and I couldn’t remember how long these were. I think I ended up starting my final kick at the right time and I passed a handful of people which always feels good:). All in all despite this just being kind of a novelty 5k it was a big one for me and I was able to walk away with a sense of progress and accomplishment.
Diane Knowles ran the Finish at the 50 10k with a finishing time of 0:49:33.
This race starts and finishes in Gillette Stadium, where the New England Patriots play football. I got stuck in the back mixed in with walkers so spent the first half of the race breaking through crowds.
The finish line is on the 50 yard line of the stadium so makes for an exciting last .2, but before that, twists and turns down the ramps of the stadium. It is most certainly one of the most interesting courses I’ve run. Managed to eek out a top 100 finish out of 993 runners.( I was 99). Also grabbed 3rd in the 40-49 group out of 125 ladies, so happy with that.
Meredith Clark ran the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge 5k and finished in a time of 0:25:18, which was a PR by 4 seconds!.
The JP Morgan Corp Challenge is a pretty unique race. First, it’s 5.6km – weird distance. Second, it’s packed. Third, there are a lot of non-runners. It’s great to have a large community get out to exercise all together – but it makes for a tough race (people not sure of where they should start, don’t know racing etiquette). I spent a lot of energy trying to get through the crowds so didn’t finish as fast as I would have liked, but overall I’m super pleased with my finish time! I broke my PR from back in 2012!
Alyssa Harvey ran a 10k race and finished this distance in the time of 0:56:42.
I ran this with my 10 year old! One of my favorite races with my favorite partner! He only had to walk 1 time. I’ll find another race soon that I can really race.
Ian Spencer ran the Marlow 5K and finished this race in the time of 22:43.
It was 44 seconds faster than the previous weeks 5k at Maidenhead.
Laurie Householder ran the Hilton Head Firecracker 5k and finished with a time of 20:03.
Who likes running in a sauna?? NO ONE, but that’s what we were given for the Hilton Head Firecracker 5k with a start time of 8am, temp of 83 degrees, a super high dew point of 79 and high humidity- a ”feels like” temp well into the 90’s! Last year I failed to respect the heat and finished feeling like death warmed over. Determined not to repeat my mistake, I ran this like a workout rather than a race, a smart tactic that paid off as I passed 5 women in the last mile and a number of men who started too fast for conditions. Not a PR, but I’ll call it my ”heat PR” of 20:03 (~6:30ish) pace- 7th female overall, 2nd place Masters female. Great meeting @christophercarey, a long time RC friend from afar!!
David Willard ran the Revolutionary Run 10K and finished in a time of 0:44:59.
Hot, hot , hot. Revolutionary Run 10K started at 8:45am and real feel temperature was already 91. So original goal for a PR was still in my mind but doubtful. Secondary goal was finish in top 3 for AG and under 45:00. Started a bit too fast with first mile of 6:53 so slowed it down, but slowed down a bit too much. 2nd and 3rd mile around 7:18. Picked up on second half of race going 7:05, 7:05, 7:15. Sprinted last 0.2 and just made it under goal finishing in 44:59.5 which was good enough for 1st place in AG. Time was about 1 minute over PR, but given heat and humidity will take it. Fun race on the 4th of July.
Chris Carey ran the Firecracker 5k and completed this race event in the time of 22:06.
84 degrees with 77% humidity and a real feel of 92 degrees. I was a little worried about how I’d perform since heat and humidity are my kryptonite as a runner, and I had withered in conditions that weren’t quite as bad just a couple weeks ago. I’ve been gunning for a sub-21-minute 5K, but today’s conditions ruled that out. Decided to simply run this by feel. And you know what? I didn’t do so bad. Ran a more conservative first mile, and actually was doing okay for the first half of the second mile, but then I felt my heart rate soar, so I slowed down a little and just focused on finishing with a decent time, which I did. This is definitely the fastest I’ve run in this weather, so I’m proud of that. Today’s performance also gave me the confidence that I could easily snag that sub-21-minute time in cool weather, which I’ll try to do this fall/winter.
Despite the brutal conditions, I loved the race, and maybe the highlight was meeting @lauriehouseholder and her husband, a fellow Steelers fan. As much as I enjoyed that 5K training cycle, I am definitely looking forward to marathon training and getting that BQ time this fall!
Anne Hardy ran the Redwood City Parade Run 5k and finished in 21:36, which was a PR by 40 seconds!
Thank you Claire for convincing me to run this race as a cutdown! I took it one lap at a time trying to go a little faster at each lap mark. And it worked! I got worried during the 1st quarter mile when my heart rate skyrocketed and it felt like OMG this will be hard to stay at this pace which was meant to be slower than the rest of the race… I ended up settling in and passing more runners. I felt good during the 2nd lap. I thought I ran as fast as I could during the last lap but since I was not exhausted when I finished maybe I did not run as fast as I could… My eternal problem, I guess! But I am happy: PRed by 40s and placed 1st in my Age group ?.
Deidra P ran the 4 on the 4th (4 mile) and finished this race event in the time of 0:31:46, which was a PR!
“””4 on the 4th”” is a great local 4 mile race with top-notch organization, swag and after-party. It’s been years since I’ve done anything shorter than a half marathon so I just hoped to run about 8’ish paces and not die.
I was conflicted about how much to drink b/c I am not used to running “”hard”” in the sun. After my warmup and some drills and lunges, I felt okay, but with 90% humidity I had sweat pooling in my shoes before the start. My initial pace felt like a tempo run. Nice! Not easy. Not hard. Potentially do-able for 4 miles.
I missed the first mile’s water stop and began to feel my pulse in my ear, so I stopped to chug 2 cups of water at mile 2. And then I just ran with hopes of picking off some of the many runners who were ahead of me. I kept my pace and raced the race. When I was about 30′ from the finish and close enough to see the finish line clock, I was elated!! 31:46 official chip time. Woowoot!
Vincent Hardy ran the Redwood City Parade Run 5k, finishing this distance in the time of 17:48.
Mixed feelings after this race. I am happy that I won my age group (but also know this is a modest race). I felt a lot better than last year, but I went slower than a year ago (by a few seconds) and I did not hit the pace I was hoping at all (5:35). I did not manage my effort well and was too afraid to dig in in mile 2 and 3 and finished with too much in the tank.
Maurice McMahon ran the Louth Track and Field Championships and finished in a time of 9.21.
3000m on the track. I was lined up to run in my age category m45 but the race was split in 2 with my category being in the slower heat. Changed to senior so I could run in the faster heat. Lead from start to win the race and senior title. Bit disappointed with time but was running out on my own. Splits are even so happy with that.
Trey Brush ran the Peachtree Road Race 10k with a finishing time of 0:44:40.
I got to run the first half of the race with running buddy and RC runner Scott. Also got to run with my 12 year old who left me with 2 miles to go. I felt like I hung in there today well. I created circumstances that were not ideal but fought through it.
Greg Stern ran the 4th of July 2-miler and finished this race in the time of 10:59.6.
I do this race every year. I wasn’t sure I was going to race for a few reasons. I hadn’t been able to train this week due to a possible mild concussion suffered on Monday in a boat tubing crash. I also had a crappy warm up because my kids did races prior to mine and those didn’t finish until 10 min before the gun. I decided to run anyway and see what happened. I did not have another gear BUT I didn’t feel as bad as my last race. I finished 5th overall and won my age group. I was the oldest top 10 finisher by 9 years and 6 of the 10 were either 15 or 16. I was only 25 seconds slower than last year. So I’m happy with it.
Jon Whitehouse ran the Langham 10K and finished this distance in the time of 0:39:46.
This was a tune-up: part of a series of mid-week league races. Definitely not a PB course but a well designed one: approximately 10K mainly on uneven grass and forest trails. I consciously held myself back for the first 1.5 miles, then made up ground going downhill and measured my effort going uphill so I had energy to run off the top. Second hilly lap was slower than the first, but I kept my position – in fact was passing people for most of the race which was very motivating and a big contrast to last time I ran the course. Finishing position similar to other races in the series but I was ahead of runners who usually beat me. Overall a very satisfying race.
Bob Marcum ran the Campbellsport Cougar 5K and finished in a time of 0:27:17.
It was a fun tune up race, the temps and humidity–plus the 2 long hills in the middle–made it a good challenge. I felt good all the way through, I can already feel the benefits of our training. I won this race last year (70+ AG), in 28:50. this year I finished second with a 27:17–a new 70 Y.O. aced me out–I’ll get him next year!!! All in all, I feel stronger and ready to build from increased efforts in my training program–bring it on coach’s. “Happy 4TH everyone”
Richard Alberts ran the Fund Raiser 100k and completed this distance in the time of 12:39, which was a PR!
A brutal 100km fund raising run! 7 circuits. Nothing easy about this distance.
Siobhan Donegan ran the Mattapoisett 5 Miler with a finishing time of 0:41:23.
79 degrees and 86% humidity. Still, more than 1,000 runners showed up to run so I figured I might as well too. This was my first race attempt since the fall, after being injured all winter and then working with a very cautious PT through the spring. I knew it would be a slog and not a day for a PR – but I did just want to try to maintain as reasonable a pace as the steamy conditions would permit. The first couple of miles were pretty congested but the second half of the race opened up a bit. I did not go all out for fear of dropping in the heat but I did push myself somewhat, and overall feel good about this return to racing effort. I was about 10-20 seconds per mile off of last year’s paces (when it was also ridiculously hot) but still, after being injured for so long, I will take this as an optimistic sign.
Nuttapong Sakdikornthanasiri ran the Peach Ou Running Half Marathon with a finishing time of 2.41.
Luke Geary ran the Gold Coast Marathon and completed this race event in the time of 4:14:10.
First half was great but after a sprained foot 2 months ago and a torn calf 2 weeks ago, my body just couldn’t keep it up. I got massive cramps in my quads around the 35k mark, which meant every time I tried to run fast they froze up…still, at least I finished!
Jeff Bartlett ran the 2019 Gold Coast Marathon and finished with a time of 5:58:43.
Well February 2018, I had major spinal surgery on my L3 & L4 discs, to improve nerve access, which was affecting my left leg. I also 10 days before that had a “”30,000 km service”” arthroscopy on my right knee. Both were Navy injuries. I am told by my physiotherapist I have had a pretty remarkable recovery in this last 18 months.
When I successfully completed my first half marathon, since 2018, I said whats next ……. a marathon of course. Well today I completed that goal, on a pretty fast flat course, but the Gold Coast being a sub tropical climate, it was indeed sub tropical, rain in the area and a pretty stiff breeze.
I had game plan with my pace and did not exceed it at the start. As the run continued, it was evident that the conditions were playing apart and a desired finish time slipped by, but the major goal was to tick off a marathon. Towards the end, a finish under 6 hours looked possible and was achieved. This has been by far, the best running festival attended and that would include the Boston Run to Remember. The organisers had every thing sorted out and functioning well.
Kumar Rao ran the Bengaluru 10K Challenge and finished this race event in the time of 0:49:48.
This was a local 10K race called the “”Bengaluru 10K Challenge”” on a tough hilly concrete highway, with out and back 5km segments and some 1 km to 1.6 km hills of around 3% gradient. Finished in 0:49:48 (5 of 45 in 60+ age group and in the top 7.4% or 4,937 participants.)
I suddenly started slowing down about 200 m before the finish on a minor hill with 1.7% gradient, after having maintained a fairly even power and grade adjusted pace until then. When I tried to pick up the pace and cadence, leaning more into the hill, lost control and fell with the finish just 60 meters ahead. Was helped by a volunteer to get up and he ran with me and had to hold me again near the finish.
So can’t really say I am pleased with the race, although the finish time is quite good, more than a minute improvement over the 10k in May and about 20 seconds short of the PR a year ago.
Mark Ballou ran a 10k race and completed this distance in the time of 0:53:16.
Self supported, 10K fitness test. Wasn’t quite what I expected, but I should have known. Ran in the heat of the day (the window I had), and started out too fast. Wasn’t thinking straight in mile 5, so ran it too slow. Had more in the tank, but I guess this is a fairly good test of my fitness. Not terrible, not what i’d hoped, but makes sense.
Svetlana Hemsley ran the New Forest 10 mile with a finishing time of 1:28:17. This was a personal record by 4 minutes!
The race was in the heart of New Forest with beautiful scenery. It was hot and humid but not too sunny so bearable. Although I achieved a PB I found the race very hard and did not feel any bounciness in me, it was more like a fast shuffle than running – I just decided to treat it as a training run. Nevertheless I finished the race with a smile!
Jay Niec ran the Traverse City Olympic Triathlon with a finishing time of 1:08:00.
First trail run I have completed and it was no where as fast as running ? on pavement!! Took awhile to find my legs after the bike, almost fell after tripping on a tree root, lots of sand…. typical. This run was tougher than normal for me…. but it was a nice run thru the scout camp preserve. At least I passed all of the other guys in my age group!!
Marie Ostby ran the Mad Half Marathon and finished with a time of 2:13:05.
This wasn’t the race I expected to have when I started half training back in March, but I think it was the race I needed. BEAUTIFUL – the most gorgeous race scenery I’ve ever seen. Perfect weather; And I really feel like not focusing on a time goal was huge for me, and something totally new. The elevation of this race meant I couldn’t possibly run it for time, and when I saw EVERYONE (50+ people) around me walking up the hill in mile 2, I realized I had to be smart and quickly banished any thoughts of walking being a failure. The intervals were an in-the-moment decision but they were absolutely key to me keeping enough in the tank and meeting my primary goal for this race: finishing feeling good. I was 12/30 in my age group and I’m happy with that. I smiled a ton and truly enjoyed the scenery. This was my second slowest half ever but it still feels like a major success, and crazily enough it included both my fastest and my slowest mile in a half ever.
Beautiful experience — totally recommend this race to anyone. I really feel like it rekindled a love of racing and after a spring where training didn’t go the way I wanted it to with illness, weight gain, and life stuff, I left yesterday feeling ready to train — ready to dial in on my nutrition, hydration, and sleep along with a sharper mental focus on training so I can make gains this fall. I’m ready to do the work!
