Patrick Callahan ran the Montour 24 race in Danville, PA.
For me this was more of an event than a race but here is my race report. The Montour 24 is a timed event on a 1.5 mile trail loop offering 24 hours solo and relay, 12 hour day, 12 hour night, and 6 hour options. I signed up for the 12 hour day and intended to run easy for 6-8 hours. Although I ended up tapping out after 5 hours due to heat, temps in mid 90s and heat index around 100, I had a great time. I was able to leave my gear near the start/finish and passing by every 1.5 miles meant that I did not have to carry anything. Started with temps in the 60s but heated up quickly. Would like to take another crack at it next next year and commit to running the entire event. Also first time using Infinit Nutrition’s gofar all in one (carbs+protein+electolyte…) product. I like the idea of getting everything I need by drinking from a bottle and I plan to stick with it for a while.
Suresh Kumar ran the Dream runners Half Marathon and finished with a time of 1:58:23, which was a PR by 16 seconds!
Even though PB by 16 sec ( 1:58:39 from my previous one on cool winter race with yesterday’s 1:58:23 on hot summer), with temp. above 30 C with humidity above 59% during warm-up unexpected one. Had a plan to run with 5.30 pace and finish fast after 17 K (1.50~1.55), but from 15k onward felt uneasy and on 17 K, had a toe cramp too, which reduced the pace further.
Last year I completed 10 K in the same race by 58 mins. But yesterday crossed 10.5 K @ 56.30 comfortably during my 21 K. During the training with RC , learned more about the theory and science behind endurance running and did all the training comfortably . Still lot more to learn. Thanks for all the affectionate encouragement during training.
Bridget Hunt ran the Cotswold 24 hour race and finished in a time of 12:30, which was a PR!
First time running a 24 hour race, unfortunately I went into the race feeling ill. I knew I was going to be in trouble when 15k in, I started feeling nauseous with stomach cramps. Fortunately because it was 9k loops I was able to race the toilet after each loop. The medic stopped me at 33 miles and told me to sleep and then if I had stopped being sick I could get some laps done in the morning. So I went back out at 7:45 am and did another 22 miles. I just missed the cut off for the final lap bell and would have made it 100k – I came in at 91k though and celebrated.
The coaching from RC has given me such great ultra strength in my running. On a different day I would have had a very different race, it has inspired me so much to see what I can potentially do when well. I leaned a lot about myself over 24 hours, the power of mental grit is extraordinary. The people I met on the course made this race for me – one of the males who ended up in the top 5 jogged alongside me on my final lap. It moved me to tears.
We are part of something incredible in our running community, yes we have our own goals but we also care about others and where they are at on any particular day. So I am writing this race report the day after crossing the finish line. Am going to rest up for a few days and then set some big audacious goals for the year ahead. Thank you coaches and thank you RC members – without you all I wouldn’t be sat here this morning looking at my medal with beaming smile on my face!
Rodrigo Jara Piccardo ran the Olimpia Run 10k, finishing this distance in the time of 40:06.
115th Anniversary of the Olimpia Football Club. In a very difficult circuit I was able to achieve my goal, to get first in my division. Super happy to have done it! Thank you RC coaches.
Keith Papenfuss ran the Handcart Days Half Marathon with a finishing time of 2:07:56.
Unfortunately this race was a disappointment. I started out slow to make sure I didn’t burn out, but that didn’t seem to help.
Sandra Miracle ran the 2017 Potomac River Running’s Birthday Bash 5k and finished in 25:59, which was a PR!
Returned to running after a back injury. Have been “back” to schedule for about three weeks and wanted to test fitness. Will be interested in seeing whether this changes up any training paces. Even though I’ve run several half marathons and three full marathons, this was my first 5K, so instant PR :). It was a very HOT and humid day but it was a fun race because I ran it w/ my two older boys who are just getting into running.
As for effort, I could have pushed it but the weather put me off. I just didn’t think the conditions were great for racing–80 degrees and 76 dew point–and since I was coming back from injury, I just didn’t want to do anything to potentially get laid up again, now that I’ve been back in the groove a few weeks.
Sandi Keller ran the Almost Heave 7k Trail Race and completed this distance in the time of 58:42. This was a new personal record by 00:11:42.
I thought I was in better shape 2 years ago when I first did this race. But evidently training smarter is paying off. Super happy that I both beat both my PR for a 7K Trail Race (1:10:14) and my goal of finishing 60 minutes or less. Hot, hilly and humid, but just what you expect for a trail race in July. I found going downhill with all the rocks and roots especially challenging and had to shuffle walk the steeper declines. Tripped and fell once but I was lucky to land in a soft area. Very happy to finish strong and placed 1st out of 16 in my age group. Sore this morning. This definitely used some different muscle groups. Planning to include some trail running in the future as It definitely changes things up.
Anne Hardy ran the 20 km de la côte de granit rose (20K) and finished this race in the time of 1:42:19. This was a personal record by 12 minutes!
This race is a tradition in my husband’s family. Years ago I thought people racing it were crazy… I was not running at the time. It was my 3rd time racing it. The course runs along the coast of Brittany. It has a few steep hills, some parts on trails or sandy beaches and rest on the road. It is quite scenic. It usually attracts about 1,000 runners, so it is not super small but not big either. I came into the race with a plan: be conservative uphill and accelerating on flat and down. It worked! It was not easy esp. during the last uphills but I was super happy and impressed with myself to cut my time from last year by 12 minutes 🙂 Your training plans pay!
Mitch Rubenstein ran the Denville Tri – Sprint Distance and completed this race event in the time of 1:19, which was a PR!
My first sprint tri. I did not drown! Set up tired legs for the run by pushing the bike portion on my mt bike. This race replaced my scheduled cutdown run. Fun morning!!
Joanna Murphy ran the Aegeriseelauf race and finished with a time of 1.01.51. This was a PR by 3 minutes!
It’s a favourite local race of ours, around a lake so pretty flat. Lots of atmosphere and supporters with cow bells and Alpenhorns. Previous year’s best time was 1.09 but I’d run 1.05 in training so knew I could improve on that. Very pleased with the result as by km 3 we were in driving rain, strong head winds and thunder and lightning!! It was a question of gritting your teeth and getting to the finish as fast as possible…
