2 Personal Bests and an Age Group award highlight the stellar weekend of racing for Team RunnersConnect

David Cooper ran the Foxtrail Winter Series Race 5 (5k) and finished with a time of 24:24.

Tough week going into this, been nursing an injury the week or so leading up to the event and I’ve been fighting off a cold/cough as well I think as my HRV has dropped through the floor over the last 5 days.

Anyway, felt okay on the day and it was perfect conditions for the 6k race. Lovely course on a mix of sand, sand dunes, forest track, gravel and even tarmac. I set my pace a bit slower intentionally, but I still didn’t quite mange to hit that pace!

I did manage to grab a bronze medal though! And beat the person who pipped me at the post last year, by well over a minute I’d say, so that shows me how much the training has paid off. Thank you!

Kevin Dollard ran the USATF masters 5K Road national championships and finished this race in the time 20:32.

Was very pleased with my time today. It is pretty much what I was shooting for. 20:30 was my goal race time. 👍👍

Janet Ruest ran the Litchfield Park 10k, finishing this distance in the time of 54:00.

I like running in races, but not racing. Today I did “”race”” and was pleased with the entire event.

Litchfield Park 10 is a small race (125 in the 10k) in a flat neighbourhood. Beautiful sunny morning, 14C at race time. I had a solid WU – something I’ve been working on. I was able to execute my race plan regarding pacing and finished strong.

There was a gal that I had my eyes on who was a couple blocks ahead of me during the first km…I managed to pass her on the final km! She usually finishes ahead of me, so this was a first!!

Small race: 1st in AG.

Marjy Friedrichs ran a Tune-up Race (Half Marathon) and finished in a time of 1:44:34.

Another awesome Disney race! Perfect weather for a change. This was a tune up race for London, so I tried to hold back for the first half and I think I successfully accomplished a negative split and finished fast. It felt wonderful! Legs felt great afterwards. So much easier than the marathon! Whew! And I felt so much healthier! Next up – London!

Trey Brush ran the Gasparilla 15k and completed this distance in the time of 1:20:47, which was a PR!

In lieu of doing 4 race reports I will shorten it up and one for the whole weekend. For the past 3 weeks I am been battling a glute problem and I was not sure what this weekend would look like. I considered it a win if I could just run the races and a bigger victory if I could have a healthy glute at the end. Check….and check on both accounts. It was a tough challenge with 2 races both days. It was challenging trying to determine how much effort to use on both days. Temps in Tampa were much warmer than at home so it took some adjusting too. There were also 2 distances (15k and 8k) I had not raced before….so brand new PR’s right! I was also super pleased with the pacing. I cut it loose just a hair in the 5k which was the 2nd race following the 15k on Saturday. Other than that the avg pace for my races were 8:46-8k, 8:48-half and 8:40-15k. I also negative split all the races except the final race which was the 8k. Overall….my glute feels pretty good and I enjoyed the race weekend.

Saturday Race 1- 15k 1:20:47
Saturday Race 2- 5K 23:04
Sunday Race 3- Half-1:55:28
Sunday Race 4- 8K 43:38

Fred Inklaar ran the VIB Loop 10k and finished this race event in the time of 42:36.

Great weather – 7°C and hardly any wind — on this course I have often ran before. But I knew I had trained too hard this week (and slept too little) to try run a PR or get anywhere near it. In the end I ran 42:36 – that’s a full minute slower than my last 10K, just a month ago.

But running the race did me good. The course is a 5K loop, and I managed to run each and every km faster in the second round, finishing the last km under 4:00. So for my goal race, in two weeks time, I will just need to run near this speed for another 11.1km. I totally think that’s possible when I am properly tapered.

I just hope that my bruised shoulder doesn’t act up. It did bother me today, I really should have been nicer to it during yesterday’s strength training. Note to self: no burpees, push-ups or side-planks when you shoulder has to heal.

Rachel Stuart ran the We Run This Beach Marathon with a finishing time of 3:46:47. This was a massive personal record by 15 minutes!

I finally achieved that sub 4 hour marathon dream that I’ve been chasing since 2020!! 🙏🙌❤️😊
