Team RunnersConnect brings December in with a bang as athletes notch 19 PRs in races around the world

Raymond Church ran the Hot Chocolate 15k and finished this distance in the time of 1:21:05. This was a new personal record by 00:06:16.

Nothing really, until I set a new PR for the distance. It was supposed to be a “FUN” race; but, I actually performed half marathon training to prepare for this 15k! Oh! And, I finished my training and the race without injury.

To be honest, I probably would not have as big a PR without having run with a young woman who ran with me, chatting with me, and nudging our pace a little faster each mile until the last mile when I bumped my pace because I believed that I could do it.

John Bakalar ran the St Jude Memphis Marathon and finished with a time of 3:42:59.

Heading into this race, I had a hip issue. Despite that, I still managed to do pretty well. I was really expecting to come in around four hours or longer. I really had fun with the race this time though. I gave high fives to everyone I could along the course. I’m glad that I could raise some money for the kids, that was the main cause for this race.

Joelle Lesser ran the CIM Marathon with a finishing time of 4:57.

Had perfect weather – but the hills were unexpected.

Alex Viderman ran the AWS re:Invent 5k, finishing this distance in the time of 19:33.

I already had another race booked for the Sunday but decided to take this last minute 5k on Wednesday instead of a speed development session I had on Tuesday. I was confident that I was in 19:30 shape, and was going to see if I could push it to 19:10. This race had 2 unique conditions that I have not experienced before in race: 1. 37 degree temperatures 2. Giant buildings blocking GPS signal, forcing me to run on feel.

Starting off without accurate GPS signal was very tricky. The watch was estimating 7:00 pace based on steps when I was around 6:20 pace. I tried to stay just behind the lead pack but noticed my breathing was getting a little too labored for the first mile. On top of that I had a few people start to pass me in the first mile, so I felt committed to this pace, and was just going to tough it out.

I kept pushing through miles 2 and 3 as hard as I could. I passed 2 people along the way who started to fade, and was passed by 2 faster guys as well. When the finish line was in sight, I gave it everything I had and closed in within 2 seconds of the 2 guys that passed me. After I crossed the finish line, my lungs were hurting from taking in that much cold air which was a new experience for me. I think it made me catch a cold and I was forced to withdraw from Sunday’s race, but I am still very happy with how deep I dug to power through the pain of a faster start pacing by feel.

I ended up placing 13th Overall and 5th Age Group out of 586 finishers. I did not PR like I was hoping for, but I was still very happy, and grateful to the Runners Connect community, that in 5-6 months I’ve dropped my 5k time from 20:30 to 19:30!

Ann Kask ran the California International Marathon and finished in a time of 5:08:21.

I felt really prepared with my fuel going into the race. At Mile 19 I just didn’t have it anymore. I hoped for a PB and if I had stuck to my race plan I think I would have, but a potty break finished that off.

Javier Llerena ran the California Internal Marathon and finished with a time of 3:28:44. This was a personal record by 10 minutes!

Awesome, I stick to the plan and I believe!!!

Vanda Doyle ran the Blue Back Mitten Run 5k and completed this distance in the time of 27:22, which was a PR by 2:11.

The first anniversary of my first 5k race so I figured I run it again with 10 months of RC training behind me. Gorgeous day, 36F and sunny. The race has 4 main inclines spread over the 3 miles and I was able to exercise the patience on the upside and use the backside momentum more effectively. Hit most of the race plan for once and had 3 successively quicker miles for the first time this year. Forgot about the hill at 2.5 but happy to have timed and sustained the final surge much better than the August race (which was a whole lot flatter!). An 8:15 improvement for the year and I still have tons to learn about training. Also, even though it’s all relative, moving up 950 places in a race is kinda fun!;)

Thanks RC community for neverending inspiration and team spirit.

Kathleen Julian ran the St Jude Half Marathon with a finishing time of 3:05:20. This was a PR by 6 minutes!

I have had friends who have experienced childhood cancer. I admire the mission of St Jude and wish to support it in anyway I can. My sisters run with me. It is a great bonding time.

Claire Moore ran the Divas Half Marathon and finished in a time of 2:28. This was a new personal record by 12 minutes!

The weather was perfect, the race was very professionally managed, the course was scenic! My goal was to get under 2.5 hours and I did it! I have been traveling a lot in the last two months and haven’t been able to train as much as I would have liked, so I didn’t think I could make my time. When I was half way through the run and still had just a bit more than half the time left, I thought – I can do this! I felt good and I kicked it up a notch and finished before my goal time!! I finished in the top 25% of all runners. My next goal: knock another 10 minutes off.

Marius Enescu ran the Maratonul Reintregirii Neamului Romanesc 10k, finishing this distance in the time of 47:33,7. This was a personal record by 1:12 minutes.

There were 3 separate events: marathon & HM and our 10.6k starting at 12:00. Advantage for us, it was a bit warmer at 12, slightly above 0 with some sun, good weather for a run. Had 2 goals for this race: PR on 10k – old PR stood at 45:59, but my form is clearly better then it was in spring and finish in the top 30 for the race. The course was more difficult, but hey, I like a challenge 🙂

Started, as usual, in control, relaxed. A bit faster than I wanted (4:23), but not too fast, so I kept calm. Bounced back to a more expected rhythm of 4:28 for 2nd and 3rd KMs. Very good split after first 5 (22:04). KM 6, no longer in heaven, woke-up, started feeling some fatigue, than started the stairs the organizers prepared for us. Had to dig down deep to bounce back to my rhythm. Was difficult, but I did.

7, 8, 9, pace was on and off target, but overall fine. By now I was sure that I will not manage negative split for the second 5km, but I accepted that. Than came KM 10, together with the stairs. I managed to keep a decent pace, but after I passed the stairs again, with about half of KM to go, it was all about grinding through.

Was looking at the Garmin and could see those seconds passing by and I knew that before I realize what happened, they will show 45. But it didn’t, 44:48 and I heard that wonderful split sound. All clear from here on out, a bit of descent and a full sprint, for the last couple of hundred meters. 47:33,7 and 27th place. I know it could have gone better, but hey, a PR on a rather difficult flat course with all the learning I got?

Silviu BURCEA ran the Maratonul Reintregirii Neamului Romanesc 10k and finished in 46:12, which was a PR by 5:08.

This race was a huge PR, dropping from 51.20 performed during a tempo run to 46.12. The result is even more impressive considering that I was aiming for 48.xx and the course had some stairs, both up and down, for 2nd and 3rd(last) lap. Adding that this race happened on Romania National Day, it will be a day and race to remember. The 50 mins mental barrier is finally smashed.

Liat Reuveni ran the Valley of Springs HM Race with a finishing time of 02:09:50. This was a personal record by 00:08:10.

I couldn’t make to the tune up race that was scheduled on Friday because my 6 years old son had fever so I did not manage to sleep at all. I decided with my husband that the logic is to not attend the HM race but instead to run the day after in Tel-Aviv the same run as I planned. Running a race w/o an actual race made me realize that our mind is so strong and when we believe in something and want it, we can achieve it. I started slow for 3K and then decided to keep a ~6:20 km/min pace. at the half felt really good so focused on running faster. this is a PR for me (last HM race was 02:18:01).

Joel Turkel ran the Half MerryThon HM and finished with a time of 1:36:45, which was a PR by 32 seconds!

After running the Philly Marathon two weeks ago, I thought I was done racing for the year. I was going to my mother in-law’s house this weekend so I figured I’d get in an easy longer run… Well it turns out there was a half-marathon in Rockport along the route I usually run at the time I was planning on running. Racing again so soon after the marathon probably wasn’t a great idea but I figured the running gods were trying to tell me something. It was nice running a race with no expectations and no pressure. I just went out and had fun and ended up setting a PR.

Vajira Weerasekera ran the CIM 2016 and finished in a time of 4.14. This was a new personal record by 16 minutes.

This was a special one for me. Many milestones!. Marked the 100km milestone for my 500km series to raise $100,000 to http://www.shanthi-foundation.org. Marathon PB as well! (by 16 mins). All my runs are done out of my pocket. The money raised is going towards building the first ever palliative care unit in Sri Lanka.

Bernadette Bryan Frankson ran the Reggae Half Marathon and finished the race event in the time of 2:21.

This race was a back to back race after Las Vegas marathon. Unfortunately there was very little training between as I also had the flu. At mile 12 started having a pain in left iliac crest and this has persisted. I was able to put it aside and finish though without surges.

Virginia Howell ran the Reindeer Dash 5k and finished this distance in the time of 27:49. This was a personal record by 3 minutes.

I wanted to run under 30 minutes and I did it!! It was amazing how all the knowledge I have learned with RC came to play on this run. I set my pace and did not look back at the phone until finished. I kept a mental check on everything I could think of (cadence, form, breathing, pace, form running up inclines, etc…) Doing all of these at once was very difficult in the beginning and now they are second nature. I started to feel like a real runner at MCM but this 5k was a total booster to my confidence. Thanks coaches for the awesome training. My injuries did not make themselves known so very grateful for that. The best part, not the PR. It was not coming in last or close to it. 5th place out of 24 in my age group, I take it!! Oh! and 74 out of over 200+ runners. Yeah!!!

Kevin Hurrell ran the Frotbite 5/10 mile walk and run (10 Miles) and finished with a time of 1:07:50. This was a new personal record by 6:58.

This was an extremely well run and supported race for a cause which is one of my favorites, the YMCA. I started the race on the conservative side for the first 3 miles, then fell into a 6:45 for the next five. Miles 9 and 10 where a little on the quick side, 6:25 and a 6:17 to finish the race. The only regret was I should have pushed it a little at the beginning. I was even a little surprised at how much improvement I have made in such a short time, thanks RC.

Dawn White ran the Rivertown Reindeer Run 5K, finishing this distance in the time of 23:08.

Peter Spuhler ran the Allout Fa La La 10k and finished with a time of 42:28, which was a PR by 3 minutes!

Had a great running season and the idea was to get another PR here. My previous 10k PR was 45:29 last year. I knew I’d get a PR in the 10k, still I was sure I was capable of a 41-42 min 10k so a bit disappointed that I couldn’t pull it off. This is a small and laid back race. Because it’s small I got 1st in my age group and 5th overall.

Marty Baker ran the Dash for Cash 5K and finished in a time of 29:01.

Best race since May. The last 5K in July was a 32:09. This race gave me confidence and encourages me to train harder as this race showed areas of strengths and the areas that I need to work on. It was great to see that I could run an 8:30 mile…though it was too fast…and this race made me aware that I need to continue to focus on endurance AND speed workouts…striking the balance. I learned a lot about myself today. I learned that I can run one 8:30 mile but it will take much more work to get more consistent in putting together three 8:30 or better miles. I also learned that I MUST loose weight. I ran so much faster when I was 226 lbs 3 years ago…NOT 258.5 lbs which is what I weighed today. Overall a great race, lessons learned and motivated to work even harder to meet and exceed my goals in 2017. GO RC Community!!!!

Pam Carr ran the OUC Orlando Half Marathon with a finishing time of 1:33:5.

It has been over a year since I have ran a half marathon. This was a tune up in preparation for an upcoming marathon in January. I didn’t PR. My previous PR was 1:32:15. However, I was 19th female and 5th in my AG. I was definitely in a group of fast 40-45 year olds. The temp started at 59 but quickly rose, and it was 69 when I finished. I was also not expecting to run on brick paved roads which were uneven.

Anthony Boyadjis ran the Millburn Run for Red Cross 5k and finished this race in the time of 22:36.

So h

ere’s what was great about today’s 5k, in inverse order.
1) I got second in my age group
2) I won a drawing for $50 at a local eatery
3) I ran 22:36, a 30 second improvement over my year’s best

Terry Whelan ran the CIM Marathon and finished with a time of 3:30:40. This was a new personal record by 17 minutes.

First marathon in 15 years. Goal was BQ. Best it by 9 mins

Patrick Callahan ran the Jingle All The Way 15K and finished in a time of 1:23:04, which was a PR!

This was a redemption race. I started running in July 2015 and scheduled the 2015 Jingle 5K as my first race. Two days before the race I was trying out my first GPS watch. Running in the dark I tripped and went down hard. Although I was a little sore I really just chickened out. In the past year I have run over a dozen races and I really enjoy racing not because I am challenging other runners but instead I am challenging myself. The goal today was 1:23:11 based on my 5K PR on Thanksgiving. Although I faded a bit over the last 2 KM I made it by 7 seconds so I have good correlation with my 5K time and I set a unofficial 10K PR of about 7 minutes on this nice flat and fast course.

Todd Walter ran the Arthritis Jingle Bell Run 5k and completed this race event in the time of 20:14.

First 5k I have run since this time last year. Only two weeks removed from my marathon so not really trained for it. Not a PR but ran a better time than I thought I would. My legs were saying ‘We are done already?’ but my lungs were on fire and my heart was ready to jump out of my chest! Its crazy but I almost think I prefer the long 3.5 hour marathon over the 20 minute 5K. It was still a fun race on a sunny, crisp day and I even won my age group.

Jared Spencer ran the Run to You 6.2 10k and finished this distance in the time of 37:22, which was a PR!

First attempt at the 10K distance. Finished 1st overall by 3 minutes out of approximately 175 runners. Very happy that 4 of the 6 miles were run at a sub 6:00min/mi pace including mile 6. I really like this race distance and will certainly run more of these. Thanks again RC for the great training leading up to the race!

Brandon Boggan ran the Ras Tanura Half Marathon and finished in 1:44. This was a massive personal record by 15 minutes!

Its been about 3 years since I ran my first HM which I got 1:59 as my time. I have been training fairly consistently lately with the help of runnersconnect so I was hoping for a big PR. I couldn’t be more happy with the outcome. I just hope to keep the consistency and keep improving.

Andy McComb ran the Turkey Trott 10k and finished this race in the time of 52:09, which was a PR by 30 seconds!

This is a pretty flat course and I cut 30 secs off last year’s time which was a recent best 10k for me (i.e. last 10 years) until today. Windy day and predominantly downhill. Ran a negative pace mainly due to fast last mile with the wind and gravity assisted. Getting a lot better at even pacing and gradually bringing down the pace.

Danielle Schroder ran the Montferlandrun 15k and finished with a time of 1:13:12. This was a personal record by 4:00.

I ran the first km in 4:52 and told myself not to go too fast, but the 2nd km was in 4:34 so even faster. For some reason it felt okay and not as if I was pushing myself too much in the beginning. Strange to be surprised every time your watch beeps with the km-time. In a way it was funny because I was constantly negotiating with myself because I could not believe that I was able to run sub 5:00 km’s till the finish.

When I passed the sign with km 13, I checked my watch and it was 1:04 so I realised I could finish sub 1:15. So I ran as fast as I could and finished in 1:13:12, which is a PR by exactly 4 minutes and I improved last year’s time with over 5 minutes!! My PR of 1:17:12 was from 2012 so I’m very happy. Thanks coaches!!!
