Team RunnersConnect has an outstanding weekend as athletes notch 2 Personal Bests and several Age Group Awards

Razvan Pop ran the Wizzair HM Bucharest 10k and finished this distance in the time of 47:25.

Not my personal best on this forest path I race about 7th time, but good performance. The race went well, even though there were 25 C, and I’ve been little exhausted, I succeeded to win second place at age category! 😃

Jens Grosch ran the Zurich Marathon and finished this race in the time of 3:10:46.

Conditions were pretty tough; this was a cold winter day with 2 degrees centigrade, rain/snow mix. Was able to run the entire race with constant pace of approx 4:31 min/km and almost even split. Not PB but better than expected given race prediction and weather conditions. Very happy with the result and form!

Bruno Ackermann ran the Zurich Marathon and finished with a time of 3:20:57. This was a new personal record by 6 minutes!

Happy with the race. PR in partially adverse weather. Last 3 km in graupel with 20km/h+ headwind.

Pace: Almost according to plan. Negative split by 1:30 minutes

Darci Whitney ran the London Marathon and completed this race event in the time of 3:51:19.

Wow, what a difference 6 days makes…Boston was 73 and sunny while London was mid-40s, breezy, and mostly cloudy. I ran 47 minutes faster in these conditions! Felt pretty good and just went with it. Paid attention to my body because I didn’t want to totally crash and burn, but it didn’t happen. The second half of the course is narrower and more crowded for sure. The spectators are out in full force and cheering like crazy. So much excitement! I’m appreciative that my body allows me to do this. Major #5 is now in the books. Doing my best to get into Tokyo in 2025. Looking forward to a fun summer of shorter races and cross training a bunch.

Joe Allen ran the CASA Super 10k, finishing this distance in the time of 55:05.

My second 10K in two weeks. Felt sluggish the first half on the uphill with a slight headwind and picked up the pace on the return, with the wind at our backs and headed downhill.. Finished second in my age group to a former college runner, who I would resent if he wasn’t such a nice guy. Anyway, one more race down, no injuries and cut a minute off my last 10K.

Robin Whitley ran the London Marathon with a finishing time of 7:38:59.

After the fatigue gutter of 2023 and working to recover over the past several months, I hoped for a steady day and one that was better than 2023 (London or NYC). I felt good at the start and deliberately set off aiming for 15:30-16:00 min/mile as I had the time and did not want to get to caught up with early crowds.

In the 10 years I’ve run London for Children with Cancer UK, I’m mostly accustomed to being on my own at the back of the train. London now starts those expected to take more than 7h in the last two waves of the green start, so we start about 35 min before the last corrals in the Blue and Red starts.

My friend Nicky is the London Marathon 2024 physio and also the CwCUK physio/coach. In February, she had a cyst the size of a lemon removed from between her lung and chest wall so there was doubt she’d be able to safely do her 5th London. Alas, no…unbeknownst to me, she planned to run to catch up with me and then stick with me until the bitter end. She spent 10k steadily trying to catch up to me – looking for my yellow hat that I always wear. šŸ™‚

From that point, we stuck together – we knew we’d push/pull each other. I was not happy when my newish insole began to dig into my foot just before 12 miles so I backed off, adding more vaseline at the aid station. But I knew it’d blister at the rate I was going. We pressed on- saw friends and family along the way. London 2024 (marathon #25) represents forward progress after what was a pretty awful 2023. šŸ™‚

Melinda Langlois ran the London Marathon

This is my third six star journey, so I tried my best to finish it. This day was very special and stressful at the same time as I’m one of a very handful of runners (less than 25) who finished the world marathon majors the third time.

Thank you for RC coach for helping me reach my goals.

Mike Corker ran the Yarmouth 5 Mile and completed this distance in the time of 39:45, which was a PR!

Good surface, flat course, 2x (2km along coast road and 2km back on path). 30-40mph winds almost head on for 2 x 2km. Colder than last year at 3c.

In to wind average paces: =4:50. Following wind average paces: =4:45. First 4km average pace = 4:45. Second 4km average pace = 4:49 (+ fast finish).

Results: Chip time 38:44, watch time 38:33. 247 out of 531 runners.

Negatives: Only 2% improvement over last year’s race. Disappointed with paces as I thought I was better than this after a good training session over winter.

Positives: Don’t think I could have run it any harder. Only a slightly faster first half than second. Form all good. Recovered very quickly and ran a very fast 300m or so after the finish when the rain really came down! Next day felt fully recovered. No stomach issues. A PB over 5 miles.
