Joe Allen ran the CASA Super Hero 10k, finishing this distance in the time of 56:46.
An up and back race on our local biking/running trail where I do my training. It’s a gradual 1.5 mile incline with some flat and then a 1.5 decline to the finish. I’ve learned over the years to take it easy on the first half because, while not dramatic, it’s a long hill, particularly with full sun and humidity like yesterday. Unfortunately for them, if you don’t know that, it’s easy to go to fast the first half and around Mile 4 realize you’re in trouble a long way from the finish.
While I was the oldest runner, finished 13th our of 34 (was the only person in my age group), and was able to pick up the pace in the last half mile. Good feeling to zip past folks who are young enough to be my kids– or grand kids. There’s a real advantage to running on a well known route that you know better than most of the other runners.
Kristin Morales ran the Dam Good 5k and finished this race in the time of 27:39.
Average pace significantly better than last 5k despite hill at first mile. , splits 8:59, 8:46, 8:35, 8:05 (.16 mi)
Kate Kimes ran a race and finished with a time of 00:58.
Unfortunately, the pain I experienced in my IT band on the Monday of race week did not let up. I attempted the marathon anyways and felt pain around mile 4. I had to quit at mile 8. I was devastated as I had worked hard and I couldn’t believe that I got injured during my taper. I had tried hard to do all the strength exercises given to me as well.
I am grateful to the coaches for helping me during my training block. I had a great journey and I felt stronger than ever. I am disappointed not to get to show my efforts during the race, but I want to try again. I am hoping since I stopped with the pain that it is an injury I can recover from in a few weeks. I have my eye on a race on July 4th.
