Christina Kach ran the Tower of Terror 10-Miler (Disney World) and finished with a time of 1:37:43, which was a PR!
I did it. I RAN a full race back 9 months post knee surgery. Within the first 3 miles my A goal of 1:34:30 was slipping away due to course crowding, I simply couldn’t get around people unless I wanted to burn out my legs & lungs by weaving. This the price you pay for a Disney World race, TONS of people, very small paths when you are in-park. I zoned in on my B goal – 1:39:50. I came in at 1:37:43. When I hit mile 3.5 and the course opened up wide and runners spread out, I took off at just the right speed so I wouldn’t fade out and have the energy to get me to the finish line. I negative splitted each portion of the race. I keep reaching each mile marker in miles 4-10 faster than the one before. All the logistics I planned, I followed. All the mini-goals I set (like, actually smile for the photographers on course!) I accomplished. I feel like Runner Christina is back.
Brent Roper ran the Rock the Parkway 5k and finished this distance in the time of 20:39.
This was a great race. I did extra stretching an extra warm-up. My hip flexors and adductor never gave me problems. I have only run twice in three weeks so this is a great time. Also my Garmin says the course is long and I ran 629 pace or 20:07! Thank you all for your help.
Jens Grosch ran the Zurich Marathon and finished this race in the time of 3:15:15, which was a PR!
Aimed at negative split. Half Marathon 1:37:37, Finish 3:15:15. Strategy worked well but had to slow down at 25km as I was close to getting cramps (calf muscles). Finish Time was PR.
Bob Ferguson ran the Hagerstown Duathlon 5 mile, finishing this distance in the time of 50:53.
Hagerstown duathlon – 1.9M run – 10M Bike – 3.1M run. I knew pretty early on that this was not going to be my race. The conditions were difficult – rainy, windy and cold – but I just felt sluggish and slow. Oh well, there are going to be those days. Time to reset and get back to training!
Ian Bowden ran the Canberra Marathon with a finishing time of 2:48:31, which was a PR!
I’m still processing this one a bit. The fall metres before the finish. Not being able to stand. With just 20 metres to go, after running 42.18 kilometres.
As I came into the finish line, I looked up at the clock. “If I kick on for the last 30 metres, I can finish before it clicks on to another minute,” I thought. The previous year I had had a mixed preparation and so didn’t push for a PB, but finished with a nice spring in my step, running at a 3:37 pace for the few hundred metres. So this year, with only 30 metres or so to go, I tried to up the ante and push through the finish line with a bit of power. Why not? And it was with that hard push down that my legs buckled under me. I hit the ground. I tried to stand and they buckled again. Stewards rushed to my side. I looked up. I could see the line. Maybe 15 or 20 metres ahead. I knew it would just waste more time trying to stand and possibly fail again, so I just crawled on my hands and knees until I made it across the line.
“Everyone was talking about you in the paddock at the finish” I was told that night by a stranger on the street in Canberra. I can see why now – the video footage is frightening. I felt completely fine. But you wouldn’t know by looking at the video.
It’s quite funny really. And I’m sure I’ll look back with greater amusement as time goes by.
I finished outside my prime target time of 2:45; but I hit my secondary target of completing a marathon with an average pace of less than 4 min/km, finishing with an official time of 2:48:31, a PB, 22nd overall from 954 runners, and 4th in my age category. And coaches – without the fall, I would have been pretty bang on for an even split. Solid result.
Thanks Andie, Ruairi, and Michael!
Terrie Ebert ran the Zion Ultra 50k and completed this distance in the time of 6:47:31.
Incredible day Sunday! So excited to finally get a new PB by 1hour 15 min! A big improvement! Race started at 6, still dark so had the headlamp going. It’s always a gift to watch the sunrise while running in a beautiful place. Weather was perfect! Started in the 40s and ended up low 60s. The views were amazing which is why I love running trail races! Really focused on nutrition and starting out easy on the pace… well after running the first mile in 8:13 I told myself to settle down lol!
Started using Tailwind fuel during training and found it really worked well for me. The extra calories and carbs is something I feel I have been lacking in the past. (When I start training longer miles it can be a real challenge with calories and keeping weight on.) Quite a bit of the course was sand, dirt, slick rock which I have spent time on and feel comfortable on. Definitely more technical on the second mesa, Grafton, but honestly it was mostly just fun! Last 2 miles all uphill….truly uphill lol! Power hiked some of that but was keeping it at around the same pace as running it slow so it worked. Ran hard the last half mile to the finish. So thankful for a truly special day and for finally breaking 7 hours which was my ultimate goal. Managed 5th in my age and 144/425 so that’s fun too! Thanks coaches for helping me get there! And now that thought that always seems to start whispering after race day… “What’s Next?”!!!
