7 PR’s and a RunnersConnect wedding highlight the weekend of race results

It was another impressive weekend of racing for the RunnersConnect team. We had quite a few personal bests and great races to open up the Spring racing season. Here’s how everyone fared:

Arnold Goldberg ran 51:42 at the Bay to Breakers 12k. Arnold’s time was a 10-second improvement from this same race last year. Arnold’s been working hard on his speed all spring and his workouts really came around in the last week. It’s great to see the hard work payoff.

Jenn Cockrill ran 26:30 for 5k, which netted her 1st place in her age group and was a great start to the season after battling sickness and allergies this Spring.

Claudia McFadden ran her first 5k while working with RunnersConnect, and came close to setting a new PR at 26:14. Claudia just started training after some time off so this race indicates that great things are in store in the next few months.

Matt McGyver completed his first Olympic Triathlon. Matt recorded the 15000m swim in 28:07, the 26 mile bike in 1:34:54, and finished off with a 10k run in 1:00:09 for a total time of 3:09:22.45. This was almost 20 minutes faster than expected and a great start to the season after a pestering hamstring injury this winter.

Richard Harris ran his second 5k of the season and finished in 16:29 to win the race overall. Richard dispatched his nearest competitor at 2.5 miles and cruised in for the victory with his fastest time of the season.

Jeremy Gaudette came back after his finishing his first marathon this spring and ran 48:12, which was a PR and 1 minute faster than expected.

Andy Gaudette, Jeremy’s brother, followed in his footsteps and completed his first 10k (and first race ever) at 57:29. Andy just started running 6 weeks ago, so his progress was pretty dramatic. Congrats to Andy for finishing his first race.

Ken Finlayson finished his first half marathon in 2:11:24. Ken finished the race strong despite the hilly course and warm temperatures. This was a big step forward for Ken and we look forward to watching him continue to progress over the next few weeks.

Monica Ross decided to jump into her competitive local 5k and ran 18 mins flat for 3rd overall – That’s overall, not just women. Heck of a run, Monica!

Debbie Basham continued her stellar marathon training block with a new 5k PR of 21:28. Not only was the time a PR, but it netted her first in her age group!

Serj Martinez kicked off his summer racing schedule by completing the Seven Bridges Season Starters 5k in a time of 21:45.4. That placed him 3rd in his age group and 81st overall. Considering the warm weather conditions Serj was satisfied with the race results. He now turns his focus towards the Roselle Run for the Roses 5K on June 3rd.

Ben Schippers ran a lifetime best to start his 2012 racing season. He competed in the Brooklyn Half-Marathon and ran 1:16:01, bettering his previous personal best of 1:17:28 set in October, 2010. Ben took a patient approach and stayed in control to reach his goal and finish 58th in a field of over 14,000 finishers. After suffering a knee injury over the winter that kept him out of running for several months, it’s very impressive for Ben to come back so strong this early in the year. Well done, Ben!

On a non-running note, RunnersConnect runners Brent Frissora and Eva Wang got married over the weekend. Maybe this is our first ever “RunnersConnect Wedding”? Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Brent and Eva Frissora.

Congrats to everyone who raced last weekend. Keep up the great training and let’s continue to set new PRs and new heights with the training!
