10 PRs and 3 Amazing First Ever races in the 5K, 10K and Marathon for Team RunnersConnect

Mark Slagle ran the Cleveland Marathon in Ohio coming across the finish line in the time of 3:23:27 which was a 11 minute PR.

MarkSI PRed pretty big and feel like I have a lot more in me. Midway through my training cycle, I had a tune-up half marathon. Shortly thereafter, my RC training program ramped up big time. It was challenging and exciting and I am looking forward to the progress that will come with running an entire training cycle at that higher rigor level. Can’t wait to get out there again later this year and go bigger!

Emily Pilotte ran her first marathon at the Sugarloaf Marathon in Maine completing the distance in the time of 3:36:25.

EmilyPThis was an amazing course and I was blessed with perfect weather. I really could not have asked for a better first marathon experience. I cannot thank RC enough for the training plan and all the guidence along the way. I was more prepared than I was aware of, and it’s because I followed the plan, read their articles and followed their advice (ok, except that I went out too slow- but that is all on me!). Thank you so much!

Mike Sheridan ran the Newbury Parkrun which was a 5K in Newbury UK finishing in the time of 19:16 which a PR of 24 seconds.

Just perfect conditions – warm, clear sky, no breeze and perfectly dry trail underfoot. Special – it was a big PB, first time under 19:30 and my highest position ever in any of these races! I finished 4th out of over 400 runners .

Alberto Pinton ran his first ever 5K in Skärholmsloppet coming across the finish line in the time of 19:42.

AlbertPFirst 5k ever. Not flat, not easy. Sort of ‘died’ @ 4k after one too many back slopes but managed to ‘resurrect’ for a sub20 finish. No runners passed me, I passed a few from half race on.

Eric Eidsmoe ran the Great Lakes Bay Half Marathon in Michigan completing the distance in 1:49:42 which was a PR by 2 minutes and 15 seconds.

Eric EI just set a my Half PR 2 weeks ago and didn’t expect to improve on that time at this race. However it was another perfect weather day on a mostly flat course and I felt fully recovered. At the 10 mile mark I realized a sub 1:50 race was going to be possible and I picked up my pace a bit. This race ended at home plate of our single A pro baseball stadium and as I circled the outfield, I knew I was going to get there in time. I was very happy to meet my spring race goal of geting into the 1:40’s.

Buddy Gray ran the Race 13.1 in Greensboro North Carolina coming across the finish line in the time of  1:32:29 which was a 1 minute PR.

BuddyAll in all I had a great race today! I had a PR of 1minute, was 15th overall out of 647and 2nd in my age group. I was shooting for 1:30:00 but I’m still happy with my results. The course was very hilly which slowed the time but that’s where I caught most people, the hills.  Thanks RC. Now it’s on to the next race after some rest!

John Ranger ran the Brooks Joondalup Half Marathon in Joondalup, Western Australia finishing in 1:42:23 PRing by 7 minutes.

john RangerHad a plan to run 1:45:00 but conditions perfect and felt comfortable running a few seconds faster per kilometer than my plan. Was able to hold on and pretty much even split the race. (I’ll call it a negative split due to the unexpected hill around the 18km mark!)

Gary Landsverk ran the Styttende Mai 20 miler in Madison, WI, completing the distance in the time of 2:49:06 which was a PR by over 4 minutes.

Gary LOverall, I felt great in this race throughout. The training with RC really paid off, and although it was not easy the last 5 miles or so, I had the gas in the tank to keep going. It was a PR by over 4 minutes for me in this race, which is amazing since the only other time I ran it I was 28 years old. At 52 now, I feel good about beating that time from 24 years ago! Thanks to RC for the great training plan and such a wealth of information with which to educate myself with. It made a huge difference and I look forward to my fall goal race now, Lakefront Marathon in Milwaukee.

Brenda Steedman ran the Sydney Morning Herald Half Marathon in Sydney, Australia finishing her first half marathon in the time of 1:58:58. She had a cool and dry day perfect for racing which made for an enjoyable first half especially with all the enthusiastic volunteers and spectators.

BrendaThis was my first Half Marathon and really, it was about as good as it gets. My training went better than I ever expected and I arrived at the start line as fit as I’ve ever been – thanks to RC for a great training program by the way!

Phil Wright ran his first 10K at the Great Manchester Run in Manchester, UK completing it in the time of  1 hour 17 seconds. After battling multiple injuries from over twenty year in martial arts, Phil has worked diligently to be able to run and get his legs back.

PhilMy first race of any kind since I was at school. There’s a lot going into this, as I get closer to forty I’ve been gradually getting in worse and worse shape and wanted to arrest that decline and turn it round into something a lot healthier. I feel like I’m getting into it, and am beginning to enjoy running just for running’s sake again. Something I haven’t felt for 25 years.I knew a lot of people who were running today, and pretty much came in after all of them, but a month ago I know a number of people were questioning whether I’d make it round at all. But, with support from Runners Connect, I’m playing the long game.

Kevin Leapley ran the Colfax Half Marathon in Denver finishing the time of 02:03:10 which was a 1 minute and 24 second PR.

KevinLI have been training with Coach Jay Johnson for the last 3 weeks and I felt much stronger than prior half marathons. I have confidence that I will continue to get faster in the next race. The weather was fantastic (60 degrees)! I love Denver!

Sweeny Choong raced the NM Galaxy Run Series 2 which is a 15K in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia coming across the finish line in the time of 1 hour and 9 minutes which was a PR. This race was over a very difficult hilly route and Sweeny was still able to best her time by focusing on runners in front of her and pulling them back to her.

SweenyCCrossing the finishing line was a relief because my legs were dead tired and I was pleasantly surprised to be rewarded with an official hanging the 2nd placed AG tag around my neck. Another thing different about this race is that I did not suffer as much aches or tightness on my hamstring/glutes as with other races – this despite being a grueling course. Surely it must be because of RC’s strength exercises that I’ve been trying to follow closely. 🙂

Russell Friedberg ran the Rock ‘n’ Roll Portland Half Marathon coming across the finish line in the time of 1:29:17

russellThis was my 3rd Half Marathon race in 3 weekends (OneAmerica Mini in Indianapolis, then Fargo Half in Fargo, and now the Portland Rock ‘n’ Roll) – and I finished all 3 in less than 1:30 (1:27:20, 1:29:11, 1:29:17). This one was hillier than the previous two – but despite a 7:14 mile on the big hill – I still was able to accomplish the sub-1:30

Vanessa Jewell raced the Tulip Time Road Race 5K finishing in the time of 24:09.

VOne second shy from my PR. Haven’t raced a 5K in 6 months and my focus has been on half marathons, so I was pleased with my performance. Placed 2nd in my age division and 7/233 female finishers. A win in my book.

Jachima Taino ran the Brooklyn Half Marathon completing the distance in the time of 2 hours and 50 minutes.

JachminoI have been very, very nervous about this race because of my lack of training for the last 2 months. Due to a handful of things going on in my life, I haven’t been able to keep up with consistent training. I ran the Brooklyn Half last year as well and am trying to make it a yearly tradition with my best friend who lives in NYC. Since she also went into this race unprepared (even worse than me!), we decided to look at this as a fun run. We ran the entire race together and just took it easy and chatted along the way. We thought we would end up walking half of it, but we surprised ourselves. Our time was slow, but we had a great time!

Simeon Bayles raced the Brooklyn Half Marathon finishing in the time of 1:31:42.

SimeonI just couldn’t get my legs to turn over the way I wished and fought it till about mile 10 where I just couldn’t hold it anymore. For sure I got everything out of my body I could have yesterday but it is frustrating when you think you have the form for a PR and miss by a few minutes.

Ray Constantine ran a half marathon in Woodville, WI finishing in the time of 2:19:55.

RayCTwo Saturdays, two half marathons, two PRS! Or 3 half marathon PRs in 6 weeks! Yes, I know I started too fast for me, but it was a very fast field. I also got a PR for the 10K distance as part of my latest half! At 61, I’m over the hill and picking’ up speed! Woohoo!
