Comrades ultramarathon, up run. The maintenance of the traditions of this race is what draws me back. It’s like no other in the world. The camaraderie on the road is incredible. This was my seventh comrades and third up run. Still prefer the up run to the down run as it doesn’t hurt as much. Lots of self talking between the 60 and 75K to keep pushing but happy to have completed it in my goal time of sub 10 hours. Very hot as coming from Canada to South Africa. Managed with soaking my head every opportunity at the water tables. Nutrition was a point until the 70 km mark then changed over to Coke and it seemed to work quite nicely. Hope to be back next year for the hundredth running of this event.
