Mike Corker ran the Framlingham 5M (5 Mile) and finished with a time of 53:09.
Race shoes, 24c, humid, no wind, undulating. No chip timing, Gun time= 42:29, TP 5M time= 41:56. Had been training with a trapped nerve in left leg for last 10 days and didn’t decide to race until during warm up. Hopefully no after effects. I had requested minimum taper and this definitely reduced performance, as did the hills and heat. Comparing to Yarmouth 5M 4 weeks ago this was 13sec/km slower (5:00 to 5:13).
Age grade was 74.6%. Placed 296 of 437 in a strong club race. 3rd of 13 in male 70+ and first of 3 Fram Flyers in that category.
Mary Shepherd ran the Sunrise Series #2–Scottsdale Sports Comples 5k, finishing this distance in the time of 30:33.
This race is essentially a double loop, most of the course run twice except for the start and end. There are some slight ups and downs as the race starts on some soccer fields (low) and then there is some gentle climb to get high enough to cross a road on a bridge. On the last pass over the bridge, as you come down to field level, the course splits–first timers go left, finishers go right about 100 ft to the finish line. I ran this race last year. I ran this nearly 40 seconds faster than my 5K 2 weeks ago, but this time I was 4th in my age group (out of 2nd place by just 33 seconds! and out of 3rd by 5 seconds!). Overall I was 248 of 615 runners, 109 of 394 females and 4 of 9 in my age group. I’m very happy with my results–probably my fastest 5K in several years, better than 2 weeks ago, a sub10 min/mile pace (9:50 officially), and almost 3 minutes faster than last year. And all the other “competition” trains for 5Ks whereas I’m just using them as a break before really settling into HM and marathon training.
Angie May ran the Caramel Mini Marathon (HM) and finished this race in the time of 2:19:26. This was a personal record by 0:14.
This was a PR! Unexpected, and only by a little bit, but I was happy to follow Hayley’s instructions for HR pacing and have enough to cross the finish line with a small surge in pace instead of my normal difficult to keep moving.
Tim Norris ran the PaperChase 5k and completed this distance in the time of 28:54.
I run this every year. It is put on by the local Bar Association (lawyers not drinkers) to raise money for a good cause. Usually I come in 5th but I am a little slower this year as I build back to fitness. I was never thinking I could PR today. I went with a target of 9:20 pace for the first mile with idea that I would ramp it up if I had anything. I didn’t really, but I managed to keep roughly the same pace throughout, and broke 30, which was my modest goal for today. It was a small race — even smaller than in past years — but I managed win my AG (haha, beat the one other guy in my AG). This was just a race to motivate me and help me move forward — and mission accomplished.
Lauren Mccabe ran a Base Building Tune-up 10k and finished with a time of 55:39.
Not a race, just a run to get me ready for a marathon training block.
Mike Bromberek ran the Carmel Marathon with a finishing time of 3:42:06.
Got very challenging later in the race due to the temperature and being sunny. So proud I was able to keep going and finish it. A few days before the original date for the race it was postponed 6 weeks and the training during that new 6 weeks did not go the best with being sick at times and a nagging issue with my right leg. Legs were feeling sore most of the second half, at least the part of my right leg that was worrying me this week never bothered me during the race. Did well with the fueling plan besides not using a gel at 3 hours 20 minutes.
