2 Personal Bests and Age Group Awards highlight the great weekend of racing for Team RunnersConnect

Robin Whitley ran the Brooklyn Half Marathon and finished with a time of 3:40:03.

This was my 8th Brooklyn Half. It was mostly a walking day because of the temperature and my desire to stay in one piece since I do not deal with warm temps very well. Grateful for my friend I spent 11 of 13 miles with and our friends who waited at the finish.

Bob Kirkby ran the Calgary Marathn 5K, finishing this distance in the time of 31:53.

My times have been slipping in the last couple of years, not just due to age but due to not running enough. Last year my 5k races were all around 33+ minutes. I just finished a 16 week training program with Runnersconnect with a goal of doing 32 minutes in this race. I did it! Certainly not a PR but I’m happy I can still do this at 80 years old.

Joe Allen ran the Ogden (WV) Half Marathon and finished this race in the time of 2:10:17.

This is a very hard course with a steep 2.5 hill, a more gradual 1 mile hill, a steep 1/4 mile hill and finally a very steep .5 hill at Mile 11.5. Ran as good a race as I’m capable of doing. Since I was late at the start, rather than panicking I just followed my plan knowing that with chip timing I would be OK. it was grueling but I’ve run this one many times before and stuck to my plan and ran a negative split with a strong last couple of miles. Won my age group and finished 181 out of 371, so as the oldest runner, was fine with that. Your great training course really helped!

Angela Sickles ran the Miles on the Mohawk 10 mile and completed this distance in the time of 1:12:15. This was a personal record by 4:54.

Another PR! In this race alone I managed to PR my 10K and 15K distances as well. And this is coming off of a 5K PR a few days ago. Snagged 3rd in AG and 3rd master’s female overall! I am riding a huge wave of fitness right now and it is so fun!!

Dana Hall ran the Chattanooga Chase 8k with a finishing time of 1:03:11, which was a PR!

Race was great! 73 degrees and 92% humidity. It was straight uphill for an entire mile! Wanted to finish under an hour but the hill got me and just missed my goal time. Overall happy with how it went!

Christina Kach ran the Boston Run to Remember Half Marathon and finished this race event in the time of 1:59:16.

Prerace, all good. I felt well fueled, hydrated, rested, outfit was comfy, humidity was high but with a lower dew point / 50 degree weather / no sun, it was manageable. I felt ready. Miles 1-7 were just fine. I started out really controlled. Aiming for 8:40 felt like a challenge, so I adjusted and aimed for 8:45-8:50, okay in knowing that range would still be a PR at least and I may be able to speed up later. And then….mile 8. The energy drained from my body. I slowed down, thought a reset mile might help. Then mile 9. I got hit with the largest “side” stitch I believe I’ve ever had. And at this point my mental fortitude gave up.

If I have to find the good, I can find two things: 1 – the voice notes left by my friends were so wonderful. 2 – how lucky am I to have grown as a runner, that a time of 1:59 – which felt impossible to do years ago.
