Some fantastic performances highlight the weekend of races for Team RunnersConnect

Oleg Kyrylko ran the MULTIKI Christmas Trail under the Windmills 10k and finished with a time of 1:18:30.

I ran today much more confidently than last time. The elevation gain was 374 m and I was afraid that I would start to cramp on the climbs and descents. But my legs worked as they should. The climbs were steep and very slippery. I walked almost all of them, helping with my hands. I didn’t risk running up the climb, I was afraid that I would run out of strength. But I am satisfied. I realized that my physical training allowed me to run on not very steep climbs. At the finish line I was even able to accelerate.
UPD:
This morning, to my great surprise, I hardly feel any soreness after yesterday’s trail run… and I’m full of energy, ready to go again.

Jeffery Larson ran the Rocket City Marathon and completed this race event in the time of 3:55:00.

Wow, what a cold race. Certainly the coldest marathon I have ever run. Temp at race start was 7F with the wind chill (15 without). The high for the day was 24! Going into the race with that knowledge, I made sure to have the necessary clothing. By the end of the race, I did make the correct choices. I was anticipating running a PR for this race and was starting with a conservative pace. Since I was running in a pace group, going through the aid stations was not easy (not many volunteers in the cold weather). Added to that, for the stations I was able to get liquid, they were gatorade slushies! A new experience! All was going pretty well through the miles. My quads started feeling a bit sore/tired around mile 15. Unexpectedly, I got a hamstring cramp between mile 20-21. I stopped and stretched a bit. Resuming running was more difficult as the wind/cold started causing other parts of my legs to stiffen and require more effort to get restarted. The last 5 or so miles ended up being a walk/run effort. My spirits never dropped and I attribute that to my 90 g carb/hr routine. The end of the race was relatively anti-climactic. You get to run along the downtown water feature and in front of the convention center where lots of people are cheering. Then you take a side street to the back of the convention center and enter via a loading ramp to the finish. I did appreciate that the finish was inside!
