Some good performances highlight the weekend of races for Team RunnersConnect

Neal Mcmahon ran the New York City Marathon and finished this race in the time of 3:11:07.

We got a beautiful day to run a marathon at NYC. Was running for my 7th STAR, 6th Star medal and completing in the Age Group World Championships as well. The hardest course of the majors I have run, IMO, due to the non-stop segments of elevation that hit you from start to finish. Definitely the hardest last 10K of any marathon I’ve have run. Didn’t feel as good or strong down the stretch as I have my last few races but still managed to PR by 20 seconds. I could have finished in the 3:10 neighborhood but had to stop and go backwards about 15 yards to give my 4 year old granddaughter a high five on Central Park South. The lost time was well worth it. A memory I will cherish and never forget. Taking 10 to 14 days off to recover but I’ll be ready to start training for my 7th Boston soon after. Confident I can break the 3:10 barrier there if we get a decent weather day in April. Thanks to RC for putting me in position for a great race and amazing experience.

Andrea Jimenez ran the Turkey Trot 5k, finishing this distance in the time of 22:04.

I trained hard for 6 months to reach the same 5k time that I initially started with back in May. Probably went too fast for the 1st mi and the rest was a struggle.

Robin Whitley ran the New York City Marathon and finished with a time of 7:31:47.

NYC #9 and marathon #30. Marathon 2 of 2 a week apart…and about 2 months after bottoming out on iron (thanks, blood chemistry). One thing that lingered from MCM was some ligament pain in my left foot. It was mostly gone by the time I stepped off in NYC but I knew goal #1 was to not make it worse. While weather conditions were really good, I felt baked in Brooklyn as the sun beared down on my back.

Around mile 3 I accepted that I wasn’t feeling “”it”” but wanted to enjoy the day and from there I basically power walked my way to some of the most even splits I’ve had across 26.2 miles. I didn’t fall off a bit until the last 3 miles or so – I could tell I was favoring my left foot a little.

It was neither my best nor worst day in NYC but I was happy. Marathons are always hard but my level of contentment was high with the atmosphere and seeing my friends and my sister along the way. So, while not an impressive for me time, I’m okay knowing I managed MCM the week before and that my energy levels were good.
