Joe Allen ran the Run For Home 10k, finishing this distance in the time of 57:24.
This is usually a mentally grueling course for me as it winds through suburban streets and since I’ve done it so many times before, have a tendency to project ahead, thinking how bad I’ll feel later. But today that didn’t happen. We were expecting rain and when it held off and turned out to be a good day to run, I just stayed in the moment and ran, finishing in the top third, which is pretty good because the others were many years younger than me. Some times everything just falls into place and today was one of those days.
Mike Bromberek ran the Lincoln Presidential Half Marathon and finished with a time of 1:44:19.
First race since an injury. So was more a long run that was lots of fun to run with friends.
Went a little faster than planned during first 6 miles and then close but still faster on next 4 miles, but those did not seem too much faster than I was planning. And I was able to speed up a decent amount without feeling too tired during the last 3.1 miles.
Weather felt really good for the race, was pretty cold and cloudy the whole time. There were rolling hills but they did not feel bad.
Passed a decent number of people during the race especially during the last 3.1 miles. About half a mile left in the race I could see the finish line up ahead and that helped get me to really speed up. And a little after that I saw the 1 hour 45 minute pacers ahead of me and tried to speed up to close the gap on them, they still finished ahead of me but I was getting pretty close. Used Maurten gels 5 minutes before start, 33 minutes, and 60 minutes. Had plenty of energy left at end of the race so that helps indicate the Maurten gels work well for me.
Terry Flannery ran the 15 Annual Capital 10 Miler/10K with a finishing time of 53:19.
I really enjoyed the race and the course! I wish I could have kept up the pace of the first 2 miles. Perhaps part of it was my soggy shoes from the rain?
. All in all I was happy!
Beth Montgomery ran the Essex County Cherry Blossom 10K Run and finished in a time of 54:29, which was a PR by 46 seconds!
The start was slow; I had put myself in the middle of the pack, but the people in front of me were walking or jogging slowly. After the first mile, the people were more spread out and I was able to get into a comfortable pace. Looking at my watch, 8:30 seemed to be my comfortable racing pace. There was a hill that slowed me down around mile three, but overall I kept a consistent pace and I was able to put the events of the morning behind me and try my best. I tried to kick up the pace at the finish, but wasn’t able to all out sprint which tells me I did a good job of pacing myself and putting all of my energy on the line. It felt good overall and I enjoyed the race. The cherry blossoms were beautiful!
Rachel Stuart ran the Viper 200 50k Ultra and finished this race in the time of 4:37:00, which was a PR!
This race was originally supposed to be a 53k to be completed on one 33 ish mile loop on Shelby Farms Park course in Tennessee. The area was hit by record flooding causing the race director to make last minute adjustments. We ran a 6.2 mile loop five times on the portion of the course that was not flooded as it continued to rain. I was thankful that the rain provided relief from the heat and humidity. I also found it mentally helped me to think of doing the same loop five times. When I checked in for my final loop I felt on top of the world!! I made it a goal to only take a few walk breaks for fueling and the one steep hill. I didn’t even realize until I crossed the finish line that I was the second overall finisher!!! First place overall was also a female! I felt on top of the world after the finish and am still feeling great the next day!! Thank you so much for the excellent training plan and coaching to get me to this point! I couldn’t be happier!
Larry Shaw-salazar ran the Mount Charleston Half Marathon and completed this race event in the time of 1:32:13.
Back in February, I hurt my back (Non running related) I have had to cut back significantly on my training especially the past two weeks and no really long runs in two months. I traveled 10 hours to this race with friends and family but the day before, I got very sick to my stomach, my watch claimed I got a total of an hour and 17 minutes of sleep. Even driving to the race I didn’t feel well and considered just cheering on my friends. As I waited for the start of the race, my stomach started feeling better and I thought maybe I would just run it for fun and try to run maybe a 2 hour half. All that out of the way, I had the most amazing race perhaps my best race in 27 years. I was amazed at how strong I felt through out the entire race. I started out fast around 7-minute pace and managed to hold that pace consistently for 10 miles. My 11th mile was slower but that was that was to be expected since it was mostly uphill. I ran it in 7:43 whereas a year ago in the same race I ran it in 8:53. Mile 12 also had some hills, but mile 13 I got back to 7 minute pace. I ended up running 1:32:13, Last year I ran the same course in 1:40:40 and in 2023 1:39:43.
Very pleased with this effort, I still can’t believe the numbers as I look through my Strava stats.
Razvan Pop ran the Festivalul Sporturilor 10k and finished this distance in the time of 48:40.
Forest trails run. 15 sec/km better than Sept’24 on the same route. Overall position 10 out of 249. Felt well, even though probably exhausted.
Razvan Pop ran the USAMV 10k and finished with a time of 40:05.
Hoped I would finish under 4:00/km. Though…I do not know…route little twisty, or I lost again stamina in the second half.
My times per 2.5k lap were increasing gradually
9:34 first lap
10:01 second lap
10:16 third lap
10:19 fourth lapDespite this I took first place
in 50+ category
. So I am quite happy
Tony Malinauskas ran the Tuscaloosa Gauntlet Obstacle Race 4 mile and finished in 1:36:52.
Birthday race — I was the 3rd oldest runner in the whole race! Came in 105 of 186 for all runners in Open (no age groups).
Nick Grosdanis ran the Park Run 5k and completed this distance in the time of 22:02.
Had to switch up the road race to the treadmill given the high winds and rain. Covered up all data on the treadmill except the distance to ‘feel’ the targeted sub 22:00 pace and adjusted for the initial start up lag. Warmed up with some easy kms and did 4 x 30 second strides at targeted race pace with a slow jog in between. Looking out the window with no other feedback was ‘fine’ but it really sucked at around 3.5k. I tried all kinds of tricks to mentally refocus and this was quite difficult. I harkened back to my last 5k race and remembered being in a pack of four and we traded taking the lead every 30 seconds at about the 3.5-4k mark. This was mentally relaxing until about 500m to go when there were many surges. Solo running is tough especially when you feel your mental or physical effort waning. Anyway, I blindly adjusted the treadmill speed faster and slower if for no other reason to simulate tactics and as a distraction. I ended up finishing in 22:02 and was happy with that.
Christina Kach ran the Guardians of the Galaxy 5K and finished with a time of 28:05.
I executed my plan perfectly! Felt those lactic clearing workouts coming in handy! I got pictures with all the characters that were out on the course. Running fast in between each. I got a total of 5 photo stops – 4 disney characters and one in front of spaceship earth. I had SO many runner friends doing this race so it was great getting to see so many people before and after the race. Overall strong showing.
Christina Kach ran the Hercules 10K, finishing this distance in the time of 1:01:38.
What a 10K! This was my 40th runDisney race. Being Greek themed to Hercules, I dressed as the God of Wine. I stopped for NICE photos as well as TWO selfies with friends who were out on the course cheering. The humidity was 85% and my costume was long sleeved but I held on really strong. I certainly felt the 70s and humidity as I haven’t trained in it, but it didn’t bother me as much as I expected it would. Probably because I was having the best time!
Christina Kach ran the The Incredibles 10 Miler with a finishing time of 1:45:56.
According to my Garmin stats – I ran 1:33:45 in another 70 degree high humidity and dew point day. The remaining 12 minutes were photos stops. I stopped for 17 photos! And two selfies. Again I was in the low 9s and 8s throughout the non-photo parts. Another really successful fartlek. I really held strong for the third day in a row with the heat. My legs didn’t even feel like they had 2 previous hard day efforts in them.
In 2022 at this event, I ran my first 10 miler, about 10 months after knee surgery. It was faster 1:37:xx – but I stopped for NO photos. Even though this was “slower” I stopped a total of 19 times for a photo. This was a strong way to wrap up this training & racing season. It is leaving me feeling good about what’s next!
Kate Griffin ran the Runnin of the Green 5 mile and finished this race in the time of 39:59. This was a personal record by one minute!
I was able to break through into an overall 7:55 pace for the race. My first time hitting a sub 8.
