4 Personal Bests highlight Team RunnersConnect incredible weekend of races in all distances

Nicole Sailors ran the San Antonio Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon and finished with a time of 3:18:19. This was a PR by 1 minutes 29 seconds!

This was my best training cycle yet! However yesterday I woke up with a cold and today (race day) had no voice! Nevertheless, I still got the job done. Excited to rest before picking up training for Boston in April.

Joe Allen ran the Santa Spirit 1 Mile, finishing this distance in the time of 8:09.

This is always my last race of the year. It’s a mostly flat 1 mile race but we had some pretty gusty winds. A race like this reminds you how long one mile can be when you’re trying to go all out. I won my age group (which wasn’t that impressive as I was the only one in my age group). Still, it’s good to know that I’m a lot slower than when I used to run this at a 6:30 pace, I’m still not coming in last.

Dianne Rosemark ran a 5 km race and finished in a time of 25:39.

Good race today- 2nd in my age group…I haven’t done much speed work really lately so I wasn’t sure how I’d do. Pretty happy with the race, lots of fun and cute Christmas costumes!

Bob Ferguson ran the Nittany Valley Half Marathon and finished this race in the time of 2:12:34.

I started out looking to hold a 8:50 – 9:00 pace. But by mile 3 it clear that was not going to happen today. I don’t think this was a general fitness issue – wasn’t gassed – but legs were tired and running was more of an effort than it should have been. So just an off day (or perhaps my busy schedule over the past few weeks caught up to me) but this became a half to ignore my watch and just finish – and get a long run in.

Brandilyn Carpenter ran the Conroe 10 miler with a finishing time of 2:11:27.

Finished within my goal time range (2:10-2:15). Actually probably would have beaten it, but I hit a wall from 5.5-7ish miles when my asthma made itself known for some reason (not usually an issue). I had to do some walking and breathing to get my breath back. Ended at a decent clip with my fastest split. The weather was cold and rainy. I felt good about it. The race ended up smaller probably owing to the weather. There were only about 100 people running the 10miler and 160 between the 10 & 5 milers. My average split time is my fastest of this season for any race 10K or more! I’ll take it.

Gillian Ross ran the Jingle Jog 5K and completed this distance in the time of 21:39. This was a PR by 12 seconds!

Fun and very small 5k to benefit St. Jude Hospital. only 87 people total. I was the first female out of 60 to cross the line and won $100! First time ever winning money for a race. I’m a pro now? Most hills in a 5k for me ever..last mile was all uphill..95 ft elevation gain on the last mile alone. Proud of this effort and win!

Vijay V ran the ZombieRunner Quarry Lakes Run Marathon and finished with a time of 4:27:23. This was a massive personal record by 29 minutes!

This was an anticlimactic, cramps-filled race bringing down the curtains on an otherwise mostly nice year of running. So the race began well – I started off conservatively and in spite of the onset of mild cramps around mile 10, I thought I was on my way to a sub-4 finish. I completed the first half in just under 2 hours. And then the cramps got real bad, progressively intensifying. I had to dig really really deep to finish the race. I tried a few things like stretching, taking more gels more frequently than I had planned and even changed my shoes at mile 17 but for me, once the electrolyte imbalance sets in, things go haywire based on my previous experience.

The result stung a little but not too much because if I put things in perspective, I ran half of the race, essentially a half-marathon on cramps and had an opportunity to work on my resilience. Most important of all, I finished the race.

Ryan Reynolds ran the California International Marathon and finished this race event in the time of 3:29:51. This was a huge personal record by 42:09.

This is the first marathon I’ve actually enjoyed running. Although there were some learning experiences, I’m very proud of how much I’ve improved. Made it to mile 22 and my legs started to cramp. I’m not sure if this was because of the downhill aspect or not enough electrolytes or something else but still felt like I had energy to finish which is different than the previous two marathons.
