Joe Allen ran the Auggie’s 5K and finished this distance in the time of 26:04.
This was our first race in the 30’s but once we got going it was a perfect day to run. The course is a flat bike trail right beside the Ohio river, so it’s one of the few around here that’s all flat.
Ran a good race finishing 29th out of 61 and second in my age group. Was able to keep a steady pace all race long and picked it up in the last half mile.
Bob Ferguson ran the Boulder Dash 5 Mile and finished with a time of 44:04.
Great 5 Mile race today. Wound up with a 1st Place AG finish and 7th place overall ! (This was a smaller race, but I don’t get to say “Top 10” very often!) This was a very unusual race and a very difficult course. The 5M course was in an operating gravel quarry. The route was a combination of large and small gravel covered and sand-covered roads. The route started with a few up and down hills and then a long downhill road to the bottom of the quarry. The sand covering on some of the downhills made it difficult to run fast to make up time without sliding on the road surface. Then it was back up a long hill to the top, over a few rolling hills to the finish. GPS shows that the up and down was just short of 300ft. So, there was not going to be any PRs on this course, but very good test and I am happy with the finish and with an average pace of just under 8:50 it gives me good confidence about where my training is and what I may be able to accomplish a flat course. All in all, a good fun day on a very unique course!
Bethany Scheuermann ran the Muleskinner 50 (50 mile), finishing this distance in the time of 7:49:52. This was a massive personal record by 24 minutes!
First place female. 4th overall. Beat women’s course record by 24 minutes.
Felt good to push the pace. Until the last 5 miles. Had to dig deep to finish strong. My son, TJ, another RC athlete won. And it was his first 50! RD was super stoked that a mother and son won the 50 miler.
Lynda Turner ran a Virtual Race 5k and finished in a time of 26:02.
I did not have any foot or ankle pain.
Brooke George ran the Lake Washington Half Marathon and finished this race in the time of 1:58:15. This was a PR by 7 minutes!
Felt really good about this race! Minimal knee pain and I felt like I was able to maintain a good pace throughout. This was definitely the most challenging course this season, with more hills than I was expecting. It was pouring down rain almost right up to the start of the race, so there were some spots on the course that were muddy and a little challenging to maneuver. Overall, a really fun race though and I hit my goal time!
Seth Bloom ran the 2024 Fall 10k and completed this race event in the time of 49:14. This was a personal record by 1:58.
Injury Free!!!!
Vijay V ran the Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Run Half Marathon with a finishing time of 1:52:35. This was a new personal record by 7 minutes!
Finally a decent race that went according to the plan. The things I wanted to get a handle on in this race were avoiding cramps, consistent pacing based on elevation and a solid hydration strategy. I was determined to avoid cramps in this race (not that our determination can help much if the body wants to cramp) based on my last HM experience where the wheels came off at mile 8, so I wanted to test out a hydration strategy with some consistent timing. I tried out 4 Saltstick electrolyte fast chews, 2 at mile 2 and 2 at mile 4 and then used my regular electrolytes + water hydration for the next 6 miles and then a GU orange+caffeine liquid gel a little before the 10th mile. This worked out pretty well and I didn’t have any cramps though I was still pretty nervous from mile 8 to 11.
This nervousness about cramps is why I started out very conservatively (part of the plan) and pretty much let my body dictate the pace based on elevation without pushing very hard. The idea was to do this till mile 10-ish and then try to really push. I was able to accelerate miles 12 and 13 comfortably and then went for a decently strong finish. Overall I am quite satisfied.
If I handle cramps well going forward, I am sure I can get a much better time. This race has given me some confidence in this regards so the next one I will push really hard!
El Jones ran the Deer Park Goes Pink 5k and completed this distance in the time of 22:11.
Deer Park Goes Pink 5k NEVER disappoints! My chip time was 22:11 and I was overall female!! 😊 The trophy was amazing and I also got a $50 GC! A fun race for a great cause. So inspiring to meet so many women and hear of their stores and courage!
Antonella Gimenez ran the Amsterdam Half Marathon and finished with a time of 1:50:52. This was a personal record by 02:16.
Despite it being a fairly tough race due to the weather conditions (high humidity, a lot of wind and cold) I managed to run a PB. Very excited and happy with the result!
