Vijay V ran the Summer Tuneup 10k and finished this distance in the time of 49:26. This was a PR by 13 seconds!
Since this was going to be a non-goal race, I experimented with this ‘pre-warmup routine’ that I saw in a newsletter Runnersconnect sent a couple of weeks ago. I threw in a 3 – 4 minute run at 10k-ish pace 20 minutes before the race started. This course was mostly flat but did have a couple of inclines. The worst part though was the start and finish line (one and the same) – it was on a grassy, muddy area full of wild-squirrel burrows so I really had to watch my step. I calculated that I lost 10 seconds at the very start in the first 0.1 miles because I had to carefully step around the burrows and muddy sections (everyone was complaining about it). The course markings were a little confusing. Someone went off the course 1 mile into the race and I have another runner to thank for showing me the correct route.
Even so, there’s a lot left to be desired in the mental strength department. In the previous 10K at the end of June, I was able to do a 7:22 in the last 0.22 miles. This time it was 8:16 for the same distance. Lot of things to work on.
Beth Montgomery ran the Grete’s Great Gallop 10k and finished with a time of 59:30.
It was a warm, humid day and my legs felt tired as I walked to the start. I surprised myself once again with how good I felt and how fast I was able to run. This race had two big hills in the first half and lots of rolling hills throughout. I felt strong and was able to push myself through the entire race.
Joe Allen ran the Parkersburg Half Marathon and finished this race in the time of 2:15:08.
This is a race I run every year (except for last year when I was hurt). It has two back to back long, steep hills about 1.5 miles in, then a series o rolling hills the rest of the way. There’s no shade but this year we had cloud cover but the humidity was high. The last time I ran it, ran out of gas in the hot sunshine around Mile 9. This time I ran a smart race and passed a lot of folks who started wilting in the humidity the second half of the race.
Stacey Brooks ran the Falmouth Road Race 12k and completed this distance in the time of 1:06:55.
I ran this with my sister for nonprofit supporting breast cancer patients and families. We lost our mom in 2010 and have been running 5 years in her honor. I was fit and trained to race harder, but followed my sister’s pace so we could stay together. It was enjoyable to cruise easy, feel strong, and enjoy all the positivity from the crowd. We had a lot of fun!
El Jones ran the Believe in Tomorrow 5k with a finishing time of 22:32.
Only my 5th 5k of the year. After taking a training break while I planned my wedding, got married and took a honey moon, I wanted to test my fitness level. Pleasantly surprised with my time. I was the 2nd female overall and would have gotten masters if they had the category. Ready to get back into training mode!
