An incredible weekend for Team RunnersConnect as athletes notch 11 PRs and several Age Group Awards in races around the world

Vicki Badura ran the Leadville Pack Burro Race (12.9 miles) and finished with a time of 3:47:40, which was a PR!

This was an amazing event in the high mountains of Colorado that was incredibly well organized. There were 60 entrants in the short course and I came in a respectable 32nd. The long course had 28 entrants. This was only the 2nd pack burro race I’ve run, and the longest distance I’ve done to date.

Fred Beers ran the La Luz Trail Run (9 Miles) with a finishing time of 2:13:47.

I enjoyed the race as always (4th time running the race) as it is always a challenge to run 9 mile with 4000 feet of vertical climb. I was disappointed with my time but I guess it was to be expected as I haven’t running as much as I would like.

David Gehr ran the Summer Breeze 10k and finished this distance in the time of 45:43. This was a personal record by 5:12.

I have been training with RC since November 2018 for my HM in November 2019. I used this race as a benchmark run to see where I am fitness wise. I can say the training works when you stick to it, I feel stronger and faster while staying away from injuries.

Sarah Davies ran the Sunshine Coast Marathon and finished in a time of 3:14:49.

Perfect conditions for a scenic marathon along the beachfront. Was hoping to improve my time on a flatter course than the last run and felt good in the first half but couldn’t maintain the pace after about the 25km mark. Was able to bring it back a little in the last 5km to come close to my PR and was happy with the run overall. I pushed myself as much as I able on the day.

Steffen Lang ran the Adidas City Night 10k, finishing this distance in the time of 34:27.

Huge event with 10.000 runners. Finished in top 80 but main thing – 2:48 minutes quicker than last 10k race 2 months ago.

Tatyana Zicko ran the San Francisco Half Marathon and finished this race in the time of 1:32:59.

This was the 5th time I’ve run this race since 2013. It was not my best run at SF, but my second best. It was good enough to place 2nd in my division and 4th in the Masters.

Last year was a PR by 3 minutes. I didn’t expect to run a PR or a 1:30, especially since I’ve struggled to run an easy 9 min mile for the past month, and issues with my feet made it uncomfortable to walk 4 days before the race. My goal was to place, so mission accomplished.

Eduardo PerezRul ran the San Francisco Marathon and finished with a time of 4:42:11.

Chris Gould ran the Carolina Godiva Summer Track Meet 5k with a finishing time of 22:59.

This was my first try at a timed track 5K, looking to see if I could get close to 22 minutes, and or break my 22:59 previous best a few months ago at a ParkRun. Warm evening, but cooled off by an earlier thunderstorm so good conditions. In the end I got exactly the same time 22:59 again; that was strange! I was trying to follow the 5K run prescription, slower at first then speed up. I didn’t have anyone to pace with unfortunately. Mile splits were 7:27, 7:13, 7:47. As predicted, it got harder after 6 laps(!) but I felt I was on track through 2 miles. Then it got out of sync. I lost the lap count around lap 10 or 11, and couldn’t see my garmin clearly in the evening gloom to pick up the mileage. Finally figure it out half way through the last lap and ran in fast. But definitely slowed over the last mile. Anyway, happy for this. I’ll try again Saturday at a Park Run to see what I’ve got!

Jason Zajac ran the Chicago Marathon (5k) and finished this race event in the time of 22:28, which was a PR by 1:23.

Was hoping for under 22 but caught a stitch after mile 2 and had to slow up some. 1:23 PR! I’ll take it in these conditions!

Maurice McMahon ran the Carlingford 5k and completed this distance in the time of 15.32, which was a PR by 6 seconds!

Just an auld PB on a Friday night. Ran a very controlled race. The course is a fast out and back course and with no wind was perfect even though very warm. Knew a lot of the Marshalls and supporters along the course so was waving at them for about the first 1k. Was sitting around 15th place just behind a group of about 4 right up to 2k. On the turn I came up on the group and passed a few out. On the way back the route I pushed the pace on and started leaving most of the group behind and picking up people coming back. Kept pushing all the way to line and to be a bit honest was a bit disappointed when I seen I was so close to breaking 15.30. But am very happy as I know there is more there with a good taper. Finished 7th overall and won my age category. Thanks to the coaches and everyone at Runners Connect as this wouldn’t have been possible without you. Looking forward to pushing on the next few weeks before my goal race.

Nichola Walker ran the Pride of the Valley 5K and finished in a time of 21:38. This was a new personal record by 36 seconds!

This was my second year in a row doing this race. Last year I did it incorporated into a long run during marathon training and this year I wanted to see what it would be like to really train for a 5K. The last year has had a lot of ups and downs for me. I was injured, struggled through the race in Boston, and have only done one trail race since then. So this race was important to me as somewhat of a “comeback.” Overall I’m really happy with how it went! I beat my time from last year by 36 seconds and placed third in my age group. The only thing I wish I had managed better was pacing! I went out way too fast. By the time I hit the first mile marker I had settled into a good pace but I really paid for the speed at the beginning in the last mile. My overall time in the end was faster than I had intended, even with the big slowdown at the end. I think I’d like to do another 5K soon just to try to work on pacing.

Andrea Hudson Baldwin ran the Mellon Dash 5k, finishing this distance in the time of 23:19.

It was raining pretty good and it kept raining. Translates into slippery, still pretty warm and way humid! Did not warm up, started out a bit too fast, then I kind of settled in, me and my allergies flaring up, but I kept going, slowed down in the middle some due to hill (not as much as last year) and then got faster again on the other side. Overall it was a big improvement from last year by over 2 minutes.

Kory Wnuk ran the Nell’s Angels 5K and completed this distance in the time of 0:24:28.

I went out at a pace that I thought was very conservative, even considering the adverse weather conditions that I was facing. At about 1-mile I learned that behind me was The Hammer’s ~30 year old cousin and he was doing a fine job keeping up with me. By mile 2 I had lost my chaser, but felt like I was going to simply melt in the intense direct sunlight. I had to back up off the go-fast pedal because I wanted some kick at the end if required.

I ended up finishing the race with a good kick. Not only was I the winner of my age group, but I was also the first person to cross the finish line. However, this was the slowest 5K I have ever run. Back in 2014 I ran this race in 23:38 and had improved to 21:44 that I did in this race in 2017. Speaking about crossing the finish line, once I was finished I nearly threw up…So I know how much I gave.

Bob Muehring ran the Cleveland Clinic Independence 5K with a finishing time of 21:59. This was a personal record by 3:14.

2nd of 10 males age 56-60, and no one beyond my age (58) had a faster time. Used this to see where I’m at before next weeks’ tune up 10K, and I know next week I’ll need to cut back on the speed just a little bit, as I don’t think I can hold this pace (7:05) for 6.2 miles.

Shatchakarn Chaiear ran the ASICS Relay Thailand 2019 5k and finished with a time of 0:30:15.

Night run. The finishing time was about the same I did on July 21. But this time I didn’t check my watch as often, just ran by how I felt. So I didn’t feel as excruciating as last time.

Chad Katoff ran the Sea Breeze Half Marathon and finished this race in the time of 2:06:42. This was a PR by 9 minutes!

Race day!! It went great.

Catherine Cederqvist ran the 5k resivoir and completed this race event in the time of 0:25:15. This was a new personal record by 1:14.

Clocked my own time on my Garmin. Around resiviour in Central Park. So no official race but I’m so happy with the time. Wow. This plus the strength training has been helping a ton. And it was a very hot day.

Carie Wille ran the RBC MN Half Marathon with a finishing time of 1:40:52. This was a massive personal record by 20 minutes!

This was a difficult race mentally and physically. I underestimated the heat and humidity and started off too fast. There was a little cloud cover towards the beginning, but in the second half, a lot of sun and not a lot of shade throughout the course. The last 3 miles were a doozy! I’m proud that I ran it. I’m proud that I finished it. But due to how things were going, with about 3 miles left, I decided my goal was just to finish since I knew my goal pace was out the window. I finished 3rd in my division, 14/592 females, and 64/1108 overall. I also PR’ed (although I’ve only down one other half before:). Like I told myself afterwards, you learn more from the difficult races than you do from the “easy” ones.

Charlotte Werhan ran the NOTC anniversary Race 5k and finished this distance in the time of 19:00, which was a PR by 34 seconds!

Won it both years and last year was my first post partem race.

Dan McCaughan ran the Time Trial 5 mile and finished this race in the time of 0:34:20.

Decided against the ten miler tune up due to heat and humidity. Instead, Ran a 5 mile time trial at about 6:50 per mile in sweltering heat. Very hot so HR was high. Believe if weather was better could have ran sub 42 minutes 10k today. Feel mostly on track to reach my goal.

John Lee ran the BEACH TO BEACON 10K and finished this distance in the time of 0:45:55.

This is always a great race. I have run it for many years. It has a nice, short, slight down hill right out of the gate to get your legs moving. Then it is flat with a few rollers. At mile 3 is the first little climb of 3. The next 2 are evenly space over the last 2 miles. My time was about a full minute slower than last year but it was still good for a 3rd place age group finish.

Thomas Bernota ran the Six Rivers Running Club Sand Dollar Shuffle 5 mile with a finishing time of 0:42:41, which was a PR by 51 seconds!

Held on hard pack sand (mostly), this year’s race was more challenging because of warmer temperatures and high (~98%) humidity. Primary goal was to finish at or below 42:30/8:30 pace; secondary goal of shaving off a minute from last year’s time, tertiary was to beat previous year’s time. Came close, but missed the first goal by 11 seconds, the second by 9! Struggled a bit near the end of the 4th mile, and had to pull up twice for 10-15 seconds of fast-paced walking recovery. One difference from last year was that in the 30 yards before and after the 2.5M turn-around:the sand got a lot softer than the rest of the run, so that short stretch really took disproportionately more effort, and set me up for having to take the brief rests a mile later. All-in-all, a successful race.

Diane Knowles ran the Cape Anne Half Marathon and finished with a time of 1:47:24.

So – this was a tough one. Sun and hills. I called this race “”the race course of the cruel joke”” because of where the hill were on this course. I took every water stop and offer for “”hosing down”” from spectators I could get! Not a day for a fast time but still a solid performance given the conditions. I managed 3rd in my 40-49 age group, 16th woman, and 68 out of 515 overall. Passed several people, and only got passed by a couple (both were young girls, so I’m good with that!). No older females beat me, so I’ll call that a win. 🙂

I will say the 10 mile “”heat run”” the Wednesday before this race and training on hills constantly was a big help for getting through this reasonably well mentally.
