July begins with spectacular race results for Team RunnersConnect as athletes notch 7 Personal Bests

Joshua Salazar ran the Trinity 5000 Series 5 KM and finished with a time of 22:19, which was a PR by 10 seconds!

I was unable to compete in the race to do an ER visit for my daughter, but afterwards, I was still determine to compete. Made this a virtual 5K. Although not a over PR, but it’s been the fast I’ve ran a 5k in over 1.5 years. And to do it on my own with any competition to push me to go faster made it better.

Steffen Lang ran the 3000m track meet Hildesheim and finished in a time of 9:38,70.

Race day – again ????. All in all it was a lot of fun! I will start with the only negtive: I am unhappy with my time. I had 3 goals –
1.- sub 9:20 would have been awesome,
2.- sub 9:25, better than my last 3k 2 years ago.
3.- sub 9:36 equaling sub 16:00 pace for 5000m in 8 days.

I ran 9:38 something which is about 16:04 pace. I am still Ok/more or less happy due to: My third win in 3 races – Hattrick ???? I almost ran everything from the front / next to my teammate. Negative Split. I am a bit scared my fitness for shorter races still has to improve but hope that with a good pack, few degrees less and saving energy I will manage the same pace for 2 k longer in 8 days and finish the 5000m at 16 minutes flat +- 10 minutes.

Bob Muehring ran the Akron Childrens/National Interstate 8K and finished this distance in the time of 40:05. This was a PR by 11 seconds.

This is the first race of the 3 race Akron Childrens Hospital Race Series. Next up is a half marathon in early August, then another half marathon at the end of September to complete the race series. Surprised that I ran this fast/hard in the heat. 13th out of 73 in 55-59 age group, 179th out of 1781 total runners. PR by 11 seconds.

Angela Bogner ran the Simply Women 5k with a finishing time of 22:59.

First race I have run in almost 2 years. I made a wrong turn on the course, so I am guessing that cost me at least 20 seconds which I took off my race time. It was super hot and humid. Was hoping for faster splits, but oh well….

J. Wade Bainum ran the Cascade Super Series Marathon and finished with a time of 3:20:33. This was a new personal record by 8 minutes!

This was my first BQ marathon. I started out intending to positive split the race as it was a gradual downhill, but not by as much as I ended up splitting. I know not to take it too easy before my next marathon now, as i really slowed the last 5 miles.

Jennifer Thomas ran the Blue Crab Bolt (Seneca Creek State Park) 10k and finished this race in the time of 1:17:14.

Just a tune-up trail race in a fun local series.

Alexandre Cavalheiro ran the Fogueiras 15k and finished this race event in the time of 1:09:09. This was a personal record by about a minute!

Beautiful night 15k race. Very hilly but fun. this year well below 1:10!

Boh Boon Chiang Boh ran the Gold Coast Marathon and finished in a time of 5:24:30. This was a new personal record by 33 minutes!

I have targeted to improve my FM time from the previous 5:57 to under 5:30. Coach Claire came up with the program and supported by Coach Hayley, Coach Laura and Coach Dylan over the last 6 months.

I started the race a little faster than my race pace as I was standing right at the back of the crowd. By the time I reached the starting line, it was already 6 minutes behind Gun time. The weather was cold in the morning and I ran with the pace of 7:35 which was a good 12 second faster than my targeted race pace of 7:47.

Managed to maintain a consistent pace up to 35KM at which point I have gained back on the Gun Time and was ahead by a minutes. However, once passed that point, I couldn’t sustained the pace anymore and slowed down to about 8:15 average. In the end, I crossed the finishing line with an official time of 5:31:52 and a net time of 5:24:30.

This the PB I have been targeting at, dipping below 5:30 by 5 minutes is a great achievement for a slow runner like me. I would like to thank all my coaches, Coach Claire, Coach Hayley, Coach Laura and Coach Dylan for all the support and encouragement for the last 6 months.

Melanie Truscott ran the Gold Coast Half Marathon with a finishing time of 1:34:37.

This was mentally so tough and required a lot of adjustments regarding my original race plan and pace. I knew that, after two weeks of colds and finishing off with gastro over the past two days, I could not expect to perform my best. I just didn’t know what goal was realistic until I started the run. And it turned out 4:30 km pace it was. So I tried to stick at that pace, and started to struggle already at 11km, but was determined to try and hold it. At 17km a guy said to me ‘Your running well, are you going for sub 95?’ And I said ‘I guess that’s what I’m going for.’

I have run so many half marathons faster than this result, but hardly any so consistent in pacing. That’s an achievement in itself. I’m grateful I was still able to be part of this amazing event, and made it to the start line. And 18th female in my age group out of 800 I’m also happy with.

Andra Ghent ran the Canada Day Races 5k, finishing this distance in the time of 23:14.

Happy Canada Day, especially to Coach Claire! PR by something like 23 seconds. Very happy with this especially given it was 79F with 85% humidity. 7:13 min/mile pace. I was only aiming for sub 8 given the weather and my “predicted” pace of 7:27 from my best recent longer race.

This was a 5+ effort, probably even harder than the marathon I ran last month. So when the first half mile split came in at a 6:54/mile pace, I knew it was going to be a good race. I kept in mind what I had learned in Alex Hutchinson’s book “Endure” about it being your brain that slows you down in heat to prevent heat stroke. I figured I could not get heat stroke in 23 minutes:) In terms of splits, first mile was just under 7 min/mile, 2nd mile was around 7min/mile, and I fell apart a bit in the last 1.13 miles which was fine.

Brian Sweeney ran the Regents Park 10k and finished this distance in the time of 51:51. This was a personal record by 2:52.

I ran this same course in 44:44 in March 2017 and I wanted to use this race to test my speed and fitness heading in the next phase of my training. Set off on a fast pace reaching 4km in 16 minutes. After 4km, my pace dropped significantly during a small incline and I struggled to get back on pace. The course consisted of 3 laps and my lap times show how much I slowed after the first lap – spilt times were 13:16, 14:02 and 14:39.

Race was run in a temperature of 24-25c (75-77f) which wasn’t exceptionally hot but more than I am used to. I didn’t adjust my pace to reflect this – with a slower start I might have been able to sustain a faster pace for longer. I also found it hard to drink water at 10k pace – it might have been better to slow down to ensure I was taking enough liquids on board. Normally I could run a 10k without needing to take on water.

Julio Smarcaro ran the Circuito daa Estações – Etapa Inverno 10k and finished in 0:49:30.

This was the third race doing the same circuit. There I got my PR (00:48:35) in January. This time I wasn’t expecting to beat it, but I still got my second best with 00:49:30. I run 3km as w/u and after that had I joined my girlfriend in her first 5k (the organization split the 10, 16k and 5k one hour apart). We did it super slow, so it was a great way to cool down.

Bill Keefe ran the Jerry Garcia 5k and finished this distance in the time of 22:01.

Mid-summer 5k Tune-up. Stifling hot, humid and muddy. Bone-headed my watch management so I ran without time. Still had a pretty strong 22:01 finish and felt great at the end of the race. Needed a performance like this to make me think my summer goals weren’t out of reach.

Karen P ran the Gold Coast Half Marathon and finished with a time of 1:39:35. This was a PR by 2 minutes 40 seconds!

This was my A race for the year. I struggled with the training leading up. I was first struck down with a kidney infection mid April and then was plagued with continuous muscle soreness throughout my left leg. Hayley kindly tweaked my workouts to fit my physiotherapist’s recommendations. I never risked any of the harder, longer ones. Despite this, I knew I was in otherwise good form with 10k and 5k PRs in the weeks leading into the race and achieved while injured. Still my 5k race time was suggesting I was only ready to race 1:42, i.e. last years time. I had my heart set on sub 1:40. I just hadn’t done the workouts to establish I could last the distance. I know I finish strong so I hatched a plan to start at a safe pace and keep getting stronger if I was feeling good. And I am over the moon that that’s exactly how the race played out. I suffered greatly in the last 3km (not slowing though) and it was totally worth it. I finished 9/378 in my 50-55 age group with a PR of 2 min 40 sec. I had long given up on my goal for a top ten age group so I felt very lucky. The last 10k was also a new 10k PR.
