Silviu BURCEA ran the Gerar Half Marathon and finished with a time of 1.38.24. This was a personal record by 2.45.
This is a special race as one run with 2 other runners as a team of 3 and all of us run the entire race together, with maximum 5 meters between the team members. The course is a 3.5K loop with a hill x 6.
My team had a 1.28 HM runner, consistently training(Adrian) and a 1.33 HM runner, returned after an April-October hiatus(Tudor). Tudor was afraid of this race so we didn’t start really fast, around 4.40/km, we agreed that we should keep this pace for the first loop. I knew the course very well and I’ve noticed Adrian a couple of times that he’s going too fast. Tudor was agreeing and my job to do the pacing accordingly so Tudor can finish the race. After 3 laps(half race), the timing system was showing 0.49.00.
The hill I’ve mentioned before was Tudor’s nemesis, hence our 20th km split. We had to slow down a little so he could continue to run. We finished in 1.38.xx, giving us a really even split. I had a lot of fun, everybody was cheering for us because apparently, we were a top team. We started in the 11th place and finished on 9th. However, we passed many teams because having a loop allowed us to catch the slower teams. This is new to me. When we ended a loop, the organizers noticed our team name(2 Slow 2 Win 2 Dumb 2 Quit), they burst into laughter. We were just honest.
From my perspective, it wasn’t an actual race but a ridiculous long tempo. I have rated the effort as 4/5 only because the race was long enough, but clearly, the intensity was rather low. The official timing says 1.38.24, giving me an over 2 minute and a half PR because I haven’t raced the HM in a long time and only had 1.41 before. Adrian noticed that it wasn’t a tough effort for me and admitted at the end of the race that he feels I have 1.30 in me, maybe a bit under. My thoughts exactly.
Fernando Hernandez ran the Fitbit Miami Marathon and Half Marathon (Half) and finished in 1:55:03, which was a PR by 1:10.
The first 5K of the race were very tough because of the headwind. After 24 hours of “rethinking” the race, I think this is the part where I burned more “fuel” than planned. My goal was to beat my PR by 3 / 3.5 minutes, and I was “only” able to beat it by 1 minute 10 seconds.
Anyway I am happy because I could manage the pace during the whole race and was able to keep pushing until the finish line. Now I have to train harder to beat this new PR, I hope in better weather conditions next time…;)
Siobhan Donegan ran the Arena Attack Indoor Half Marathon with a finishing time of 1:46:08.
I ran an indoor half marathon for the first time, one of those things you have to try at least once, I guess! It was very well-organized and the volunteers were terrific, cheering loudly with every one of my 66 1/2 laps! It was a learning experience for me as I was not sure of the best strategy running a race where progress is marked by laps accrued and where runners by your side may actually be significantly faster or slower. At the end of the day, it was very fun, I got a decent long-ish run in, I ran a negative split 1:46:08 and I came in first in a small field of women. Looking forward to getting back on track with my marathon training!
Carmen Lopez-Acevedo ran the Medio Maraton Getafe 2018 Half Marathon and finished in a time of 1:58:15.
Tune up HM. I used the Stryd Power App setting 175 as a target and I am with Luc, it does underestimate downhill power as the first km was downhill and I had to push to keep power at that level, and turns out it was 5:05min/km pace which is way too fast! It was sunny but extremely windy and cold and hard to run against it as well. I think those early too fast km took their toll and it slowed me down from km 15. I don’t know how I managed to do an extra 450m as well, which is very annoying as my actual finish time was 58:10 but pace exactly the same as last year, 5:28 where I did 56ish. I have learnt my lesson with this, even if average power is targeted at 175 I need to start slower, maybe 170 and make up for it later.
Richard Alberts ran the PDAC 25k, finishing this distance in the time of 2:11:06. This was a new personal record by 0:07:53.
This was huge! Not for any other reason than I have been training with the RC program for almost a year and this is a significant result. This run was not only physically challenging (albeit on a relatively easy route), but mentally challenging as well. Without the structure of a good training plan, and support from the coaches, I don’t believe this would have been possible. Thanks RC….Here’s to many more PBs!
David Redman ran the Jekyll Island Half Marathon (relay) and finished this race in the time of 2:05:20.
I ran the 2nd leg of this relay with my wife Jana Galloway; She ran and completed her first Half Marathon and I completed my 4th!!! This was the first time I ran a negative split race starting in the 10.5/mile pace and finished under 9:00. I was very pleased with that part of my race. My training had been sporadic leading up to the race so I did not push starting out. It did lead to a strong finish as I realized I had more to give to the race. I missed the PR by 1 minute!!! I want to congratulate my wife for killing it in her first 1/2!!! Now on to the next one!!!!
Travis Dowell ran the Icebreaker Half Marathon and finished with a time of 02:11:29. This was a PR by 1 minute 21 seconds!
A group of runners from my local running club talked me into doing this race instead of my scheduled 12 mile training run. It was pouring rain the whole way, I felt a bit miserable running in wet clothes and socks, but I was determined to get a PR out this and I did, just barely. Last April 9 I did my first half marathon in years and got 2:12:50, a 10:09 pace and 12th in my age group. This was a smaller group of runners and I got a 10:01 pace and third in my age group! It is much more challenging and interesting running a race rather than a long training run. This could be habit forming. 3 races in 3 weeks and 3 PRs!
Susan Spencer ran the Cape Cod Athletic Club Grand Prix #8 and finished this distance in the time of 27:07.
This was a “mystery distance” intramural race for my running club. The director said the distance would be between 3.5 and 4.9 miles. It ended up 3.53, thankfully. The mystery distance is a joke from two years ago, when some kids turned the course arrow after the first pack went by, sending the rest of us on a much longer route. Finished first among F 55-59 and 4th F overall; 23rd among all runners M/F out of around 75 finishers. And as usual, a good post-race party at a local watering hole.
Jim Paterson ran the Achieva Run for Good 5k and finished with a time of 25:04.
5K on various surfaces – cinder track, grass and concrete at local park. Felt good throughout but wasn’t able to maintain 7:57 from first mile. Did manage to pass an age group “foe” in the home stretch to get 2nd rather than 3rd – very pleasing. Good first 5k of the season. Also a great day since my son and grandson both ran – love these family affairs.
