4 Personal Bests Highlight a Fantastic Weekend of Racing

The RunnersConnect team kicked off the month of October with a bang with 4 personal bests and a smattering of great races across the globe. From Marathons to 10ks, the RunnersConnect team dominated the roads. Here are some of the highlights:

Across the Atlantic, Paul Carolan ran a tune-up half marathon in preparation for the Marine Corps Marathon and finished in 1:28:36. His time was over 7 minutes and 20 seconds faster than his last Half Marathon in Dublin and clearly sets him up for a great run at Marine Corps.

Rob Sklenar toed the line at the Chicago Marathon after what was perhaps his best training segment ever. Rob really focused on the strength work and running more relaxed this training segment, both of which came in very handy late in the race. After hitting half way a little slow and then stopping to help out a friend, Rob’s goal of a PR looked in danger. But, Rob’s new mental outlook on running and the practice he had with adapting to races and workouts not going perfect helped him gather himself the last 15k and come home in a new PR of 3:31, which was a 20-minute PR from his last marathon in March.

Angela Reid continued her amazing training segment with another half marathon PR (after PRing last week in the 5k and training for a marathon now). Her time of 1:56:15 was a two minute and six second PR from her last race and a total of 8 minutes off her half marathon time in her 10-months of working with RunnersConnect. We can’t wait to see Angela race her first marathon!

Tim Lindgren ran the Twin Cities marathon after struggling with cramping and bonking at his last two marathons and was able to finish the race in a new PR of 4:14. more importantly, he was able to finish the race feeling strong, despite a slightly uphill finish the last 10 miles.

Debbie Basham tackled the Jacksonville Half Marathon in hot and humid conditions as a last race tune-up for the Space Coast Marathon. While the time fell just short of a new PR, Debbie showed tremendous development during the race and matured as a runner – learning how to adapt to tough race conditions and the importance of staying positive during the race. There is no doubt she is now a physically and mentally changed runner this year!

Congrats to everyone that raced and thanks for all the supportive messages to those who raced on the site. To see how everyone is supporting each other is truly fantastic as a coach and I can’t wait t continue growing! Keep up the awesome training!
